Putting aside mechanics, what about themes? what would be good world settings?

RE: Fading Suns
@ThatGuyThere The other knock against it is the book is utterly terrible. All things in CG are additive, but they stop using +X half way through and then start using X. This doesn't actually mean anything, there is no significance to this because everything is still cumulative, they apparently just got lazy half way through and stopped typing a + sign. Also how bad it is at explaining options and other branching choices in CG. It's pretty much like 'Well you could do lifepath, which is what we recommend,' then you get to custom cg and it goes, 'Oh you found custom CG, well here's how you do this, it's actually easier than what we recommend.'

RE: Fading Suns
Someone that's better at this system than me. This book is confusing. Questing Knights. Lore (people and places seen). That could easily be Lore(Regional) or Lore(Folk). So which the fuck is it. Good Lord.
Context: CG
Edit: For that matter, Lore (Court Rivals), Lore (Rival House). For someone who has GM'd this before, Do you make someone pick a specific house or rival group or do you leave those as they are?

RE: Fading Suns
I am sitting here coding this Fading Suns CG system and reading the life paths. I only have one question. Why would you be anything but a brother battle? Because good lord is that deck stacked. Stacked. With a capital STACKED.

RE: Fading Suns
@bored To be fair, I wasn't even mad about Ghilat. I didn't even know electrified shock spike clubs were a thing. I learned that electrified shock spike clubs were a thing. Electrified shock spike clubs should be a thing more often.

RE: Where the hell is everyone?
I don't know, there hasn't been a new game in 66 days. We're slacking.

RE: Kinds of Mu*s Wanted
@Woragarten There is a reason no one codes shadowrun. There is a reason.

RE: Fading Suns
@bored Paulus had a mission statement? I think this is the first I've ever head of it. Was it 'If it ain't imploding it ain't shit?'

RE: Kinds of Mu*s Wanted
@Misadventure You forgot sex. You can also employ sex.

RE: Fading Suns
@Packrat People thought that because Paulus was telling people that. Take Ghilat. This is what happened.
Momoko says, 'What does my PC think about the chances of this working?'
Paulus says, 'She thinks this is stupid.'Sans and Chiaka say, 'What do our PCs think about the chances of this working?'
Paulus says, 'Well it's probably stupid, but sans has a pretty good chance of making this work.'What Paulus doesn't say, 'Hey, I told you all different things. You're all operating under totally different pretenses.'
fast forward a couple of poses
What Momoko sees: Oh look, someone just pulled a dagger, well fuck me.
What everyone else sees: That guy really likes to rub his hip.
What Paulus doesn't tell anyone: By the way, Momoko is really good at sensing and responding to danger, so there IS a dagger, just no one else saw it.So to answer your question, the reason everyone thought everyone else was a staff friend is because it was really fucking hard not to when Paulus was giving everyone totally different poses and information without telling people they were getting totally different poses and information. We could all be staring at a damn ship, agree that it was a ship, but one person would get a pose about a blue ship and another two about a red ship and then they would argue for 4 damn hours about the color of the fucking ship.
Case in point: Seriously, fuck that. If you do this and think it's right fuck you.

RE: Kinds of Mu*s Wanted
@arkandel Did you intentionally leave out fading suns or just miss it?

RE: Kinds of Mu*s Wanted
So I went through and tallied the votes. I may be wrong and someone else may count differently. I counted any agreement or offering of how to make the game as a vote, also anyone saying they would play it as a vote. This is what I got.

@silentsophia Moroko! Momoko and Moroko! How could you forget Moroko! Moroko was the best.

RE: Fading Suns
I didn't mind staff making stats. I didn't know the system at the time so being able to say 'This is what I want, I don't know what stats to buy' and have staff say 'This is what you want' was useful. Granted I didn't know if what they offered was good.

RE: Fading Suns
I thought that the actual theme of Star Crusade was good mix of Lords of Adventurers. For people that wanted to play lords, you could have a settlement and play into the councils and provincial strategy meetings. Then for people that just wanted to be in the wars, there was still plenty of warring going on on the many fronts the planet had. I think you can mix them. But yes, that game failed 100% because staff was intentionally giving everyone different information to start in fighting and then sitting back and enjoying it.

RE: Fading Suns
@Apollonius I cannot say much, I haven't actually played a Mu since RFK shut down. None of them really interest me. I've just been working, coding and playing FF14.

Now if they can spoof IPs (not all that hard), then things get more complicated, but usually that results in other problems first.
To elaborate what she means for those unaware, I will translate.
Chime: 'Applications that can ban ips after a certain number of authorization failures are great!' slight shift in posture 'Until someone that knows that you're using one modifies their headers and blocks your IP so you can't log into your own server.'
You might even be asking, how hard is it to tell that these programs are being used? Not hard. Trivial even. They're not even recommended. By anyone. Anywhere. Except here I guess.
However if we're being fair, Security by Obscurity isn't a recommended solution either, it's just one of those things that you tack on as an after thought because you can.
Case in point (For thread necro): If you rely on either of these things for your security you've already lost.
2nd Case in Point: This is why my thread wasn't entitled: How to secure your hosting box.

RE: Fading Suns
@Apollonius Sooo....'Hey dawg, I hear you want to play Fading Suns, but why don't we take the politics out of your Political ARPG and leave you with ARPG, but add in some extra ARPG, so you can ARPG while you ARPG.'

RE: New Prospect MUSH
@orange So uh, are you actually surprised by that or is this fake surprise? If it's real surprise, I'm gonna assume you never played CoH.

Did this die or something?
Nope. It didn't die. There were just some serious server-side issues that took the site down for a few days. OR decided to use that as an excuse to take some time to re-engineer the website and forums. It should be back up this weekend.
Not that I have any vested interest in OR, but from one server admin to another, that seems like a silly thing to do when you could have just shown a maintenance page or a simple placeholder page announcing your upgrades to the general public. phpBB in fact has a maintenance mode built in.
Edit: Also, development instances. Have you heard of them? (Said all server admins everywhere)
