@auspice In the next couple of weeks (basically when I know I have a few hours aside in case something goes boom so I can fix it) we'll be updating to the newest version. Unless there's an epidemic of stuff not working as it stands, it'll have to wait until then.

I can guarantee you that the number of people willing to RP mundane chain-of-command stuff and RP via +reports, will be very small indeed.
Oh my god, I used to think that too, and as it turns out I was so wrong.

Okay, not QUITE how I meant it, but I see how it came across that way. Ew Ortallus. Just.. ew.
Wait, what if @Ortallus is Trump's account?
This could explain a lot!

RE: Table-top gadgets
@ortallus That doesn't solve the issue of a centralized platform for campaign management though.

RE: Table-top gadgets
After playing a couple of times it turns out D&D 5E's licensing is making things really annoying, unless I'm missing something.
What I wanted was an online campaign tool that gave my players access to a centralized location to simply build their character sheets, and that way I'd have access to them as well. We play table-top iRL but it'd be convenient to see what spells everyone has access to, what their specs are, etc.
D&D Beyond seemed like a good choice for it but the pricing model is really annoying - for example I already have a physical copy of the PHB but to gain access to that same content I'd need to purchase a separate digital copy of it as well. Players are given access by default to the basic rules (SRD) which... is really basic. A warlock complained they couldn't find the Patron they had picked right off of the PHB as an option for the character sheet, for example.
The same seems to apply to most other third party sites - only they simply don't have non-SRD content available to them at all.
I guess I can do similar things with Google Docs or a wiki but meh.

@faceless Witcher 3 might have been the best RPG I've ever played.

RE: [Original Supernatural/Vampire MUSH] Houses of the Blood MUSH
@bobotron So, as is tradition, let me go into some more questions for you. It's a Monday morning, and I hate everything, but I'll try to not take it on your project.
Let's say the game is set to open tomorrow. What are players going to do on it? For example:
-
What's the power structure PCs will find already set in place, and will it be populated entirely by NPCs? How needed are they on a night-to-night basis (and thus, how likely are they to be bottlenecks due to staff availability to play them)?
-
What kinds of plots, either staff- or player-ran would you think might be runnable at the beginning? Remember that until more people are familiar with this theme and its tropes, Storytellers might not be ready to run things for others.
-
How much information do players (as opposed to characters) need in order to start out? It's great that the game has depth and that you're doing so much work already, but how much reading is necessary, since at first they won't know yet if they want to commit to long reads before they know if they like the MU*?
-
What do you have in mind in terms of power progression? Are you using XPs, and how fast would you say characters earn them compared to other similar kinds of games - what would the power gap be like, for example, in six months between veterans and newcomers? What do people earn XP (or whatever) for?
... Crap, I typed all this and it's still Monday.

@buttercup Achilles injuries destroyed careers before. His might be over, at least the way we knew it.
We'll see.

RE: Wheel of Time MU(SH|X)
@wildbaboons I'd still talk the shit out of a WoT game well before it opened.

RE: Sci Fi/Opera Originality
@miss-demeanor said in Sci Fi/Opera Originality:
And God forbid you do a game where people can either inhabit planets, space stations, or ships. Now you have to flesh out all three. And I cannot stress enough how important fleshing out ships are for a sci-fi game.
Not to say fleshing these things out isn't a big project, because it is, but that's the least of your worries if you're doing that to your game.
The real issue is now you need to populate all three since, unless you're confident in your ability to attract a sizable playerbase, then splitting it up will just make RP that much harder. And what's the payoff?
It makes way more sense to allow people to sandbox being all over the place in temporary rooms or whatever but keeping your players in one easily reached geographical (*) location as much as possible.
(*) Cosmological?

RE: Random links
@wildbaboons I admit I've have a major against professional movie critics for years. My peeve was born all the way back when The Fellowship Of The Ring was first coming out and, wouldn't you know it, fantasy movies back then were just usually horrible so it was typical to disrespect them.
I was reading a newspaper (yes, this was a long time ago, we've been over this) and the reviewer gave it something like 1.5 stars out of five... fine. I kept reading to see why, and when I did I quickly realized he hadn't actually watched the movie - he only saw like, a few scenes here and there. He was talking about 'hobgoblins' and 'dwarves made to be turned into toy figures', but he had enormous misconceptions about the plot ("they went on a quest to find some magical rings" - uh, what?).
And this was a well respected critic. He loved obscure European films, that guy did.
That guy can fuck off, and so can the rest of his ilk. I'll watch things I enjoy watching. </angerManagement>

RE: Good TV
@thenomain I don't watch anime, so I guess I'm spared the frustration.

RE: Good TV
Black Lightning was fun.
I watched the first episode - and agreed, it was quite fun.
I think whether it goes into my tier 1 pile will depend on its villains. He can't keep fighting gang members and street toughs forever, let's see what they got cooking, especially once post-pilot TV budget concerns go up against production values.

RE: RL things I love
@bobotron Agreed, in fact I didn't even know these things weren't all print on demand. When I went over like, a year ago to ask for a copy of Werewolf 2.0 at a major hobby store in Toronto the owner not only didn't have any, he didn't even know where I could get one other than from online.

RE: RL things I love
@bobotron I've the original. In fact it's easily one of the top 3 oWoD books I own, and probably the top favorite at that - the other two being the Complete Guide to the Camarilla/Sabbat.
I absolutely love oWoD Mage theme. It's amazing.

RE: Vampire Requiem 2nd Edition Bloodlines Question
Another piece of advice: Try to either come up with them yourself so the scope of the powers is thematic, or filter very carefully what others submit to you.
I've seen custom Bloodlines, Legacies etc from time to time be quite broken in terms of powers because they're tailored to cover (and often, overcompensate) for weaknesses intended to be there. That's a thing across the board for GMC though, and players will happily round up such vulnerabilities or strive to create optimal builds - which I'm not saying is a bad thing, but you need to know in advance if, and how much, you are prepared to support.

RE: RL things I love
@lithium Meh.
I just wanna get more regular fixes of 5E, dammit.
