@tangent I could be misunderstanding here, but people have a reputation score. If your reputation starts to fall (below zero, maybe?) the forum starts to limit how frequently you can post?

Abusable. If I follow your posts and downvote every single one I can make you unable to post and there's nothing you can do about it other than go to mods.

And I know mods would love the extra overhead of paying attention to that kinda thing. 🙂

I have been staff on exactly one game, and let me tell you, it was a thankless, thankless job.

Staffing, storytelling, coding (for games) - if the-generic-you go into it looking for thanks you'll be disappointed, not because you won't be but because it gratitude can only take you so far. The work is daily and the public's adoration will eventually and naturally give way to being taken for granted.

Do it because you like it, because it's enjoyable. If you run PrPs do it because you're having a blast, not because it's a task that needs doing... or you will burn out.

And yes, very often this stuff will work against you. "You're a staff alt" is likely to be the answer to many of your characters' IC achievements (and in some cases people will treat you differently, even other staff will, like it or not); you'll get bugged during your own RP to do things for other people, ranging from +jobs they want you to look at to plots they need ran. Some folks are great, others are less than great.

But ultimately if you're not having fun stop doing it. The number of staff I've seen treat people tensely - or even badly - because they're miserable or stressed but wouldn't admit that's a factor is considerable, and the sad part is that it's avoidable.

Maybe. But, like I said, it's easier to adjust upward than downward. And I can't play with it more until the codebase is installed anyway.

Implementation must follow design, not the other way around. First figure out what you want, then how to do it, then do it.

@Ganymede Eldritch's were also capped, that doesn't actually fix it. Some players are naturally more inclined/willing/shameless enough to pursue such things as 'the cap' aggressively and others don't, and it adds up fast.

It even has a diluting effect on other kinds of rewards - if I can get a Beat for 30 seconds' worth of typing an one-line justification and you have to run a multi-hour PrP with several players in it it's the same incentive being applied, but one action helps the game a great deal more than the other.

Up until Ep9 some relatively spoiler-less comments from me (but just in case I'M DISCUSSING CHARACTERS IN VERY GENERIC TERMS HERE SO DON'T READ IF YOU WANT TO BE SURE).

Elektra's actress had to grow on me. Her accent is ... inscrutable (and certainly not Greek, it sounds like french/british) and she didn't look the way I expected it. But she grew on me, especially later in the season. Her custome needs work (it's basically a jogging outfit with a scarf!) but then again so was Daredevil's in most of season 1, so maybe they're just waiting to upgrade it.

The Punisher casting was excellent. Instead of going with a Garth Ennis unrelenting, unstoppable stone-cold death machine they went with a more human version of the character at this stage, and the guy is pulling it off.

Foggy is getting annoying. Come on, man, stop with the damn whining. He's Daredevil. He does vigilante stuff. You knew this by now, come on!

And wait, after 13 episodes we gotta wait a year again for season 3? What bullshit is this? <fistshake>

Double post: I know it's almost definitely a technical limitation and not necessarily intentional but it's not great that downvotes are visible retroactively.

People might have used it assuming their anonymity was protected and it was taken from them with no reasonable warning.

I'm a jerk and don't care who can see I'm downvoting them (in fact I prefer it that way) but others might.

@Glitch It works on Chrome but it shows the avatar instead of their names (which you can then get I guess by mouseover'ing or clicking on that avatar).

If your status quo for establishing a relationship is buying someone a beer, and you routinely use "buy X a beer to establish a relationship", then it's a bad Aspiration, IMO. I don't care, particularly, if it's viable or not, if you are going to abuse it. So once? Sure. Once every long while? If you can tell me why you think it's relevant again. Once a week? Nope.

I heard (but I've no first-hand experience - obviously) that on Eldritch it got pretty common for some people to use Breaking Points constantly about their characters. As in, everything was one, they suffered blows to their delicate egos all the time and grew in power from these tribulations.

That's the weakness (or one of them) of the Beats system, which I otherwise do like... it can be milked for easy XP by bullshitting players and accommodating staff. On its own it's not the end of the world or anything but it can set a very quick power gap between those who're willing to go the extra mile that way and those who don't.

It's okay, I'll live. 🙂 I hope the rest of your day gets better.

Why is making a generic entrance pose to a public room expecting that everyone will drop everything to entertain you, rather than to gauge what the other people are doing and if anyone seems to be open to interaction? Hell even when people have oocly agreed to meet there's often a neutral pose first if they don't know each other ICly if it's just a bump into scene?

You know what peeves me? I'll tell you anyway!

It peeves me when people take the time to wait for poses, see what other people are doing, and then try to take over the scene with their opening pose anyway doing something completely different than what it's already about. A bigger "fuck y'all" I can't easily imagine. 🙂

And I really don't mind st's pulling ahead in xp. Go forth, sow stories, work your butts off and reap the rewards. There are precious few people that st out there.

Pretty much - if only your problem would be that giving all those rewards means you get an excess of Storytellers around trying to reap them. That'd be one sweet problem to have.

The problem isn't entering a room. The issue is joining a scene.

You can have incredibly private scenes at public locations - it happens every day. You go to a cafe and there's that couple in the corner engaged in whispers that could be about anything - a chat between lovers, a discussion about her sick kid, career talk, a breakup, a blackmail situation.

On a MUSH that is quite easily accommodated through +places - you could go to that pub and never see one pose from the scene taking place between the people who were already there. So what you are really asking for (or should) in advance is whether they're okay with you interacting with them, because they could just ignore you, or IC tell you they're having a private conversation, sorry.

These are games and we all need to compromise to some extent. Being PCs we often give each other's characters special consideration than strangers would get, are more open to striking up a chat or giving up a hook to start talking to each other, etc. But that has to remain voluntary - the price of collaboration is that sometimes you get told 'no', and it has to be paid in good faith.
