Much of this. When I'm running a scene, it's nice to be able to draft and edit and update my poses while also keeping an eye on the scene itself, answering questions, etc.

It's incredibly helpful when GMing and staffing, yeah. Probably moreso than player-side, though that's how I've mainly dealt with it. It's non-essential but now that I'm accustomed to it I really appreciate it as a multi-tasking tool.

Did anyone else ever use... I think it was Rapscallion? on Mac?

I think that was the one that had a shared input window for all world instances.
      It was miserable.

The reason being able to have an in-progress pose in another input window is so handy for me is I am someone who begins drafting my next pose as soon as the person after me has posed. That way, esp. in larger scenes, there's no waiting 10+ minutes for me. Spawn windows help this somewhat (for channels), but for pages, mails, etc... I have to copy and hope I don't copy over it or paste it elsewhere. It becomes a hassle.

@tinuviel said in How to type `quit` and quit PennMUSH?:

@skew I believe it would work if you put the @boot X on an object rather than doing it yourself.
ETA: Though on the only PennMUSH game I've got on my client, 'quit' works.

They may be using some FS3 plugins. I know FS3 has aliased 'quit' to work, which I often appreciated (so if fara pops up, she could prob. explain how she made it work! Likely isn't doable player-side, but you never know).

(I'm also one of those dirty people who often just d/c's the world 'cause I'm lazy... tho I've stopped just closing my laptop because some worlds would just reconnect every few hours >.>)

+factions has a space for leaving notes. +faction/information (faction name)=(Notes). It's a good way to track things like Safe Place for packs and what have you without needing to add new code :3

My only worry for +factions is when it's just a safe place. Would seem silly if a faction is added just for safe place notes.

      @faraday said in AresMUSH Updates:

@auspice Maybe I'm just being dense and not understanding where the hangup is...

      The script does stuff like:

echo -e "${ARES_INSTALL_TEXT} Create an ares user"
      adduser --disabled-password --gecos "" ares

I assumed that as you walked through the script to see what needed to be installed for a custom environment, you'd just remove/change those bits, just as you would for any other custom server environment quirk.

Is it just because the /home/ares path shows up in a couple of places? If that's the issue then I could probably make that a variable in the shell script so you only have to change it in a single place, at least.

What I really don't want to do, though, is add all kinds of "Do you want to do this? What username do you want?" type of if/else questions to the super-simple automatic installer, because that kinda goes away from the goal of making it super-simple 🙂 A system admin is going to know the answers to those questions easily enough, but Ares is intended to be installable by folks without admin experience. Extra questions make the installation more intimidating.

Oh, for sure. The username was really the kicker. I think if it was a single variable, that'd make a big difference. Like I said, that was the big one. 🙂

      I've been thinking about Gloomhaven.

Is it as good as the reviews claim? Is it worth the price tag?

      Double-post!

Gloomhaven is pretty. That's... all I know. The last game night I made it to for the lady geeks group, one gal brought a stack of games that she hasn't gotten to play yet and that was in the mix. She, apparently, buys games and then begs other people to teach her to play them.

I'm generally pretty good at grokking games, but I just sort of sat there and stared at Gloomhaven with a sense of feeling so overwhelmed. We ended up playing uhm- blast. I forget the name, but it was a very cute resource building game with a tree and everyone is forest animals.

I really feel Gloomhaven falls into the category of 'you need someone else to teach you' or maybe just watch a lot of videos? But it definitely hit my mark of feeling overwhelmed. Maybe someone who has played it can give a better review, but that was my initial sense of it. I looked it over, thought it looked gorgeous, but I began reading over the rules and just packed it up and told the other ladies let's find something else. >.>

those of us who help with hosting begin setting up Ares installs for others.

Random side note. The standard server setup script installs a single redis database instance as a global system service. If you're going to be running multiple ares installs on a single server with different usernames, each user will need their own redis instance. This article may help.

This particular server is on Debian, which was part of the tinkering involved, but noted! 🙂

By and far it wasn't too bad of an install/setup. Web portal actually went smoother than my last trial earlier this year when I briefly had a droplet to mess around with. 😄

The universe, she is mocking me.

I've gone from overbearing, asshole professor last month to the least organized man in the world.

Who sets due dates, from what I can tell, arbitrarily.

The week, for my school, ends on Sundays. Every other instructor, to this point, has had assignments due... on Sunday (unless it's something we need to provide feedback to each other on, then it's usually Thu/Fri; understandably).

      This guy: Friday.
Except our final project: Wednesday, the final week. Yes, we have 5 assignments 8th of December, then our final project on the 13th!

This week, we have a group assignment. Due Friday. As of today, we do not have our group assignments. I emailed him. His reply? 'Thanks for jogging my memory! I'll email everyone about that.'

      ...thanks.

It also took the past three days to get clarification on one of the assignments for this week because his... explanation of things leaves much to be desired (I have shared with friends to see if they can make sense of it and universally... no).

At least this guy is nice. He's just on the crack.
