In fairness, there are five (lonnnng) episodes to go. We still may get the payoff under discussion. ❤ (Kept as vague as possible.)

      Uh. Three. It's a six-episode season.

Something either up with Vampire apps or something is up with mine.

Vampire opened on June 1st for apps. I'm 85% sure that not one app has been approved. And I'm sure as hell still waiting.

I LOVE Reno. I like the players and the staff and so far this is my only poor experience. I'm an understanding goldfish. (And I'll forget about this problem as soon as I can hit the grid. I'm a goldfish.) If something is going on behind the scenes, that's fine. I'm not pushy. I'm concerned at this point. Why can't the vampires play?

I know that Tarocchi is under enormous amounts of troubles RL lately, so that might contribute. I would just page staff politely and ask. Have you commented on your app job?

    • RE: Is Min/Max a bad thing?

No, unless the general culture of the game is inclined towards not.

That is to say, if you go on a game and everyone is super chill with stats and no one has gone super hard into one of them, then it's pretty poor form to immediately chargen with Melee 1 Billion.

Conversely, if you join a game where everyone is trying to maximize their stats, you're gonna have a bad time come dice time if you don't (which has happened to me occasionally).

Of course there is no game in which these extremes are true; there's always a mix, but tendencies are pretty easy to find, especially if you have access to other people's sheets to check.

    • RE: Eldritch - A World of Darkness MUX

So far the idea is to handle First Changes, Embraces, and Soul Pacts (inasmuch as "becoming one of the Covers of a Demon" is a Soul Pact's endgame) separate from straight into supernatural CG. So we will see who is interested in the former and take that into consideration when opening slots for the latter. There is no perfect system, but we want to both give new players the chance to come in and also give those who are already playing but want to "upgrade" a chance to do so as well.

This is something I've talked over at length with @Eerie and that I want @Thenomain's opinion on going forward, and definitely something that we'll be working into the six month meeting. But for now, the best way we can come up with is to handle them separately and have them inform each other.

I realize that at the moment the spheres are small. I won't even try to justify it with them 'feeling' small. They are small. Period. And this is something that will change soon, but at the moment we're struggling with some unforeseen issues with the code re: transitions, which is what's holding us back, so to speak.

      A bit of a tangent:

Eldritch is as much a place for you guys to play as it is a place for @Eerie and I to stretch our storytelling muscles as it is a place for @Thenomain to test his new ideas for code as it is a place for me personally to poke at game/MU design.

What does this mean? It means that Eldritch will always be changing, probably, in some way or another, and players should be ready for that! But we're working all the time to igure new things out. Sometimes that means it'll take us a bit longer than it should (coughrenowngadgetsfetishescough), but it's all coming.

What I find really interesting that Seiche (Sieche?), made that list. She was nominated for a best series. I know that she's looked at by a lot of really veteran MUer with some cringing and hatred. But I think it's pretty awesome to see someone who was once an active MU*er getting nominated for a Hugo.

And, hell. Her writing career is probably keeping her out of the MU*ing hobby?

      Yeah, same.

Her writing career took off around the same time that her MU life blew up and she stopped playing entirely. Lots of people wish her the worst but eh. I haven't actually read any of her books but I don't suspect they're bad at all. The things that made her persona non grata in the MU community were all to do with her interpersonal skills and inability to not hog the spotlight and be both actively and passively detrimental to other people's enjoyment of the hobby. That, in no way, represents or indicates anything about her ability to write compelling fiction.

@auspice said in Mutant Genesis (X-Men):

One part of the issue I've had lately is people "want" to RP, but they don't want to be responsible for any part of the generation process.

They don't want to come up with where, what, or the set.

They'll ask me if I want to RP.
      "Okay."
"Where to?" or "What should we RP?"
...like you asked me. Why do I need to come up with it all now?

When I approach someone to RP, I generally try to have something in mind to RP. A goal in mind.

This is why most of us hate BaRP. It's meandering, pointless.

It's why I personally generally don't reply to the call for 'anyone wanna RP?' in OOC Lounges because 9 times out of 10 when I do, it's followed by them wanting me to come up with the where and what.

Like hey, if I have a where/what in mind, I'll put up a call for RP. If I'm responding, the onus should be on you to have those things in mind, damnit! Hell, if you have a where/what, I'll generally even set!

The correct response to "Anyone wanna RP?" is "What did you have in mind?" If they say, "Oh, I don't know, whatever," or something to that effect, or even worse, "I was hoping you'd have something!" then your answer should be "Then no, I don't want to RP [with you]."

      <.<

@groth said in YA Fantasy Recommendations:

Since I don't know what kind of YA Fantasy you're looking for, we're shooting in the dark here but to start with I think you can't possibly go wrong with anything written by Brandon Sanderson. I did quite enjoy Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crow even though it felt very forced that every single character had to be paired up. I havn't read anything by Marissa Meyer but she's very popular and new so she might be what you're looking for, same goes for Victoria Aveyard (Honestly the premises of Red Queen and Lunar Chronicles are so similar I struggle to remember which is which).

Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab is pretty decent and if you think your sister in law has a thing for hilariously poorly written overpowered protagonists, there's always the inexplicably popular Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

Definitely seconding the Shades of Magic series. I really enjoyed it, and she's writing a prequel series, so there'll be more stuff if she enjoys it.

It's not YA, but, the Anno Dracula series by Kim Newman is spectacular. It´s bloody, it´s mysterious, and it has so many references it's basically Ready Player One for vampire/classical sci-fi/historical lit. but without the exposition being introduced like a brick to your face, thanks, RPO, jesus.

      @admiral

What's the Vampire sphere landscape like? Requiem 1e is something I'm interested in, and I would love to know if there's actually political interplay incentive, or if the sphere itself is reliant on partying with other spheres (no offense intended).

Couple of things to help that: Ever see the John Wick movies? Remember the gold coins that were used to purchase 'stuff' in that unusual world? That is how Vampires on Paris of the West handle Prestation. Doing things for a vampire gets you coins. Requesting a favor? It'll cost you coins. Want something from the Prince? Coin. Banes and Boons start to make sense for once. If that doesn't help political play, nothing else will.

Aside from that... the Vamp TL was chomping at the bit to get political RP started, so Court is going on RIGHT NOW despite the fact that we're not officially 'open' yet.

We were gonna do that for Vegas with @tragedyjones and @skew. Neat. I hope it works.
