RE: RL things I love
Son's sitting in his high chair, having some dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets and green beans. The cat is in the kitchen with him, sitting on the floor about 12' in front of the boy's high chair. Each time he raises a chicken nugget to his mouth, the cat tracks his hand and the food. Then back down when the boy lowers his hand. After a couple chicken nuggets, Boy seems to recognize that Cat is essentially begging for food. Boy just glowers at Cat with a sort of look that says you're out of your goddamn mind, these are dinosaur chicken nuggets.
This is a remarkable improvement over past behavior where anything Boy picked up ended up thrown at Cat, for his consumption. Who'd have thought cats loved shells and cheese?

I don't do much television, but I'm about to give Ozark a whirl. Fingers crossed that it doesn't end up a poor use of my time.

@ganymede said in General Video Game Thread:
TIE Fighter is one of those game game-changers, so to speak. It really was one of the first games I played which had Primary and Secondary Objectives for missions, and it was a fantastic flight-sim. It was better than X-Wing as far as playability, and it led to the very cool X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter game, which was very enjoyable.
Yes. I can remember the sense of wonder I had at that young age, watching my stepfather play TIE Fighter. He would give me an opportunity to play, coaching my super young self through things at my side? That was a fucking privilege! By that time I was already enjoying Star Wars as a new generation of fan, but it only made me all the more interested in the... everything to do with Star Wars. The Star Wars flight-sim games weren't my first dip in the proverbial PC gaming pool, that'll come in a moment. But TIE Fighter/X-Wing/X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and even the Balance of Power expansion(I mean come on, throwing yourself at a Super Star Destroyer? Sploosh) are what made me love it all the more. In the films, often the space battles and dogfights are my favorite parts! So I'll always have love for those games and may very well pick them up someday in the future, because the nostalgia engines are kicking into gear.
They weren't my first PC game ever played though. Not counting random school, classwork learning-based games like motherfuckin' Number Munchers. TIE Fighter was played around the same time, but wasn't the first that I was exposed to. My stepfather and his brother were getting really into PC gaming at the time(hell, it was with them and their friends/coworkers that I had my first overnight LAN party) so I played what they played, basically. Command & Conquer was my first. It was my first RTS and first PC game. It has a special place in my heart. Which pains me, because it's fallen so far from grace. The story of the games became fairly cheesy, very quickly. Which isn't so much a problem, I can deal with cheese mostly. I bought Command & Conquer 4 a couple years back, super excited to play it, and made it through maybe three or four missions before I just put it away from my fingers. It just didn't have the draw like the early games did(and still do) for me. It had gone too far down the science fiction path for me.
I've been playing Total War: Warhammer II since it released and have been enjoying it. I enjoy a few of the different factions but seem to focus on the Dwarves, Dark Elves(cold one knights, yo), and High Elves the most. They're the groups in those worlds that I've always had the most interest in, so naturally I tend toward them in the game!
In more modern days what I really want is Warcraft 4. I don't mean some quasi-3d Warcraft III quasi-expansion. I mean a Tides of Darkness style RTS where I can base build strategically, army amass, and slugging match with a capable AI. That's all I really want. I don't need cut scenes. I don't need too much polish. I don't need polygon characters. I don't even need a super immersive story - I loved Warcraft: Orcs and Humans(the third game I ever played!) and Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness(and there's the fourth!) because they were engaging and at times challenging! When I need to focus on a task, I even put the Tides of Darkness soundtrack on because it's background noise that I enjoy but am so familiar with that I can not be distracted by it. So that's what I want: Warcraft IV.

Starcraft II has apparently gone free-to-play now? The original campaign, multiplayer, and stuff and things have been unlocked.
Never really been into Starcraft, but I'm going to give this a whirl.

RE: Star Wars: Dawn of Defiance
@Warma-Sheen I think you're being a bit more critical than is necessary. Honestly it comes off as though you feel wronged by the current staffers, for the actions of past staffers. Someone was deeply involved with the game because they were active and had an active group? I think that's generally going to be how the average game operates in terms of giving those active people/groups things to do. The more active someone is, the more staff attention they'll get. Sure, that's not always the case. Sometimes you'll get your staffers who will preach and preach not having favorites, all the while getting their TS on via their NPCs with their chosen few. Something MSB, and it's predecessor forums has always taken a dim view of.
Remember Dominion/Seraph, I think were his name(s)? That dude had everything handed to him while largely being distant from his own faction. All the while having pals make new characters with Noble levels and the Wealth talent to filter credits to him. That's his thing. That's his routine. Staff was pointedly told by people who have staffed on games that he had been on in the past: this is this dude's M.O., he will push the spirit of the rule and the sense of fair play to the point of breaking and will strive to be the top dawg through shady means. And he did. Staff never did a thing. So let's not go just flippantly pointing the finger at the current staff for the faults of past staff.
I stopped into DoD recently to sniff about in consideration of getting back into some Star Wars play. Ultimately? Decided I wasn't really feeling it, but during that little probe I got the sense that staff's working to keep an active community and get people involved. All of my questions were fielded with no hint of exasperation or annoyance. Staff were friendly, polite, and courteous. They even went as far as to field my questions about activity levels across the various orgs, which groups could use people, and all the rest. That's better than many games out there. So while staff, as their respective PCs, may have done this or that in the past? It looks like they've got the interests of the game ahead of their own character's goals.
Kitty could've been resurrected and made Headstaff. That could have been a thing. Let's keep some perspective.

RE: RL Anger
Most decent folks would have the fucking backbone to tell the sad-eyed girl: sorry babe I have plans today; dick later?
Noooooooooooooo. Not here. That is not the way that we are wired/raised. Being secretely/underhandedly shitty to someone? Absolutely. That is par for the course. Being even the tiniest bit rude to someone's face will abdolutely, without a doubt get met with ostracism and scorn.
Rural Indiana is a weird place.
Can confirm. The kitchen table gossip over a tenderloin sandwich is real.
Edit: Damn it, now I want a pork tenderloin.

RE: General Video Game Thread
@sg It does, yes. It's okay. Repetitive. High intensity, usually, which is one of it's bigger selling points, I think. Overall it's a fun FPS arena-style game, but $60 or whatever it costs? I wouldn't go that far. $30, maybe.
I think I picked it up sometime over the summer for about $35-40.

RE: ROGUE: It is coming...
Just set it during the Army of Light vs. Brotherhood of Darkness(Republic Dark Age) era. Jedi and Sith, everywhere. No other concepts allowed! People who carry a blaster are actively mocked as the uncivilized monkey gets cut down. I'm joking. Don't do this.
Personally I favor periods where the Jedi(and even Sith/Dark Jedi) are prominent. The Old Republic is a decent setting or, more specifically, time period. Many(not all) play those games so that they can play the snowflake Jedi/Sith/Dark Jedi. That's what regularly draws in the crowds. If you build it, they will come.
I would be interested in seeing something based around the Mandalorian Wars; it has conflict that Star Wars needs to thrive, it has the possibility of diverse locations, enough open lore that you could take some creative liberties, and it has basilisks. Just, you know, without people playing the key characters of that time period. I hate FCs actively played in Star Wars MUs.
No Vong.
