BSGU would’ve been pretty lame if every combat was resolved with some rolls and a summary pose from everyone 🙂

Yeah, but your entire set-up is so far ahead of the curve that I am borderline-aroused when I get to use it.

      It's just soooooo goooooooood.

My comment is aimed towards us World of Darkness troglodytes.

Where the GM has the responsibility to adjudicate the rules fairly and to handle problem players. At heart I'm still just a GM, with a slightly different table, and to me adjudicating fairly requires that I know what the heck is actually going on in the first place. And not allowing myself to be manipulated because I can't slow down to do a little due [diligence].

I hear you and understand, but I was not advocating for snap judgments either.

There is a distinction between due diligence and due process. The former involves investigating alleged facts; the latter involves providing equal opportunity to both sides of a dispute before a judgment is made. By all means, staff should do the former before taking an action against a player; however, that does not mean that staff needs to engage in the latter before that action.

... not all game runners are equally talented at all aspects of game running. Or equally principled. Or are even coming from the same places in where they feel they've made mistakes and created bad outcomes in the past.

No truer words have been said.

      She didn't??

Poe didn't think so, and neither did a number of the command crew. They mutinied awfully fast against her.

But that's kind of my point. Most PCs who don't "earn" the position are like Poe. They'll make their own conclusions. The tension of the question "did she earn it?" may also lead to excellent RP, provided that the players play the game.

All their lives have players looked away -- to the future, to the horizon -- never their minds on where they were, what they were doing.

One thing I admire about the Chinese is their stoic natures. While sometimes they take it too far (in first response circles it's well-known that you pretty much ignore expressed symptoms when dealing with Chinese people and look only for signs because they won't actually TELL you when something is causing them pain!) in matters like free meals and such they're a joy to deal with.

See everyone? I'm a joy to deal with.

People who could have great health with minimal effort and throw it all away. Like damnit, I envy you. I want that. 😞

I'm sorry, but I like staying up late, drinking and having a good time.

@Ghost said in Whatever Happened To Star Wars MU*s?:

If anything, I think MU could do well with dice systems that aid in RP decisions over hard dice systems that are black and white to target number pass/fail. Trinary systems are great.

The thing is that, insofar as scenes without a storyteller may be concerned, FFG presents a problem. For example:

"You pass, but something happens in the scene that complicates the scene."

Well, what is that complication? It's not clear from the rules. A storyteller is in a position to tell players what that might be, but what about when it is player-and-player, as one often finds in social situations? I can see players hitting this result and feeling uncertain or uncomfortable in making the call when all participates are essentially at the same level.

I like FFG a lot, but I can see what it would turn off a good number of us.

As a female player, I highly recommend everyone 'covertly' play a female character at least once. The experience is wild. And not in a good way.

Except for me, of course, but I get wicked action as a dude.

I took a new position within my company.
It doesn't pay any better. In fact, once I factor in commuting, I'll make less.
But it'll take me off a project that has been stressing me out and had me fighting outright quitting day after day (sometimes hour after hour).

I thought I did the right thing, because it'll have me working out of their local office. I'll meet people! I'll be doing something new!

But I haven't worked out of the house in 7 years.
I start on Tuesday and I'm so anxious about it that I'm sick.

If you are as charming and intelligent in person as you are online, the people in that office will be floored by you.

Here's cheering for your success from your BSG buddies! ^.^ ^.^. ^.^ Go Recon!

I don't see sexual assault in those logs either but I get how the pretense could be triggering to someone exposed to this exact sort of real life trauma.

I see it. Then again, I review Title IX incidents and other police reports.

Look, this is one of the reasons I don't engage with this sort of RP unless it's with someone I've known for a gazillion years. Like consensual hanky-panky I'm good with generally, but this RP is dark, personal, and potentially-triggering.

Could Isaac have been triggered? I can see it. Could he be a controlling, abusive player? I could see that as well, presuming the truth of Macha's interactions with the player.

It bears saying: be careful out there. I know that isn't a fair warning at times, but it holds as a general adage.

@sunny said in Managing Player Expectations:

Managing healthy expectations is one conversation. Dealing with a tiny population of problem players is something different. I don't really feel like focusing on people who are only after one kind of RP is productive, as they aren't the problem being discussed here.

      I concur.

I follow the principle of not catering to the lowest common denominator. I'm concerned with the vast majority of the players I have to deal with, not the occasional or rare ass-hat that I cannot deal with. When those players arrive, I quietly show them the door, regardless of whether they have caused problems or not.

Devoting my time to the players I can deal with consistently is a more efficient use of my time than devoting exorbitant amounts of time to those I cannot.

\I'm not saying the codebase changes the crowd, though it did introduce me to a different side of the hobby, and in turn, new people to the hobby itself, but my point was just that I think the majority of games out currently deserve recognition for good administration.

This was my experience with my first Ares game, and it remains my experience.

However limited Ares might seem, it makes creating a game easy. And I will always promote it -- and @Faraday -- until my face turns blue.

I hope that other games advertise here, so that the word gets out.

It's a safe bet that this thread has more posts in it than those made in all other threads combined since The Great Banning. And on that note, I have nothing further to say so shall truly depart and let you all fade into irrelevancy, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I have come to the conclusion that seeking relevancy through either forum is a sign of some underlying mental disturbance.

For the record, though, I'm more concerned about Ruiz being a creeper than anything else being said here. I thought I said it clearly before to Tributary, but I'll say it again: I would be more than happy to work with folks from BMD to identify creepers and predators on games to out them and keep them the fuck out of the hobby.

If BMD folks need information buried somewhere here, just let me know. If I need to go mining for information to identify bad actors, please let me know.

@arkandel said in Managing Player Expectations:

I agree with the general principle but with this caveat; it's usually the edge cases who represent a lot of the work needed to put those expectations at ease, so by bringing them up we can perhaps discuss the traits that make them edge cases, and whether they have a point or not.

      My experience tells me otherwise.

The cases that require the most work are the ones involving a very active player demanding many things that would be considered reasonable, individually, but, in the aggregate, require a lot of time from the staff end. These players represent a huge workload for staff, but you cannot reasonably refuse them because they aren't asking for any individual thing that is egregious. These are the players that want to investigate every news article, every plot thread, everything, and everyone.

The edge cases may be easily dismissed.

      @Arkandel

"So, it appears that sometimes heroes don’t wear capes – Wonder Woman seems to have done more to secure the future of Warner Brothers DC movies than Batman or Superman, which is an astonishing achievement. 2017’s Justice League was intended to be the culmination of Warner Bros.’ DCEU, bringing together Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg, but that crashed and burned, changing directors halfway through and undergoing extensive reshoots, which led to an over-baked and under-proved mess of a film."

There was never anything wrong with the material or the premise, but there was a lot wrong with the person they chose to helm the project.

To me, using AI to play a game that relies on writing makes about as much sense as watching gamers on YouTube play.

Like, okay, I can understand why you would be entertained, but I find it immeasurably boring watching others have fun that I could be having.

On an unrelated sidenote, I also hate watching golf. Also, I don't have time to play with myself.

      Yeah. Vampires are assholes.

Ideally, I'd like games to only permit one PC per player. The starting power level should be uniform, and progression should be slow. But I realize not everyone shares my preference.
