Maybe you should direct your ire toward the person who came in and started slinging the shit, because that wasn't me.

I think my opinion on this is quite clear, but let me try again: yes, that was you, and it was you when you decided, wrongfully, that what was said was, in your words, "petty grudgewanky bullshit." Neither I nor several others saw it the same, and we've called it out.

You chose this hill, not I.

There's just really no purpose for her post at all other than an attempt to call me a hypocrite in a roundabout way, and unfortunately there's no real way around that basic fact.

      So what?

That people had, on the whole, chilled the fuck out and started to understand where others were coming from and that there's a lot more consensus there than not? Was nice. Is nice. Had she not gotten to that part yet and hence the error? Sure. But maybe that's a lesson to take away, too -- to find out what's going on a little more before firing off the snarkbombs.

And you needed to be the one to teach her that lesson? Is that it?

Really, though, people like to play rhetorical games like that on forums and like head games among friends RL or on games or in relationships, it is something I just do not have patience for on even the best day.

This entire fucking inane conversation started when someone knee-jerked a word that many, but not all, people find offensive. It was like the house was collapsing. When we figured out that, maybe, that person didn't mean to insult someone mortally, things died down. But then someone else said something that another person found insulting, and then the house collapsed again. And when that was settled, here we go again.

You don't like people playing on your phone? Then keep it real, if you want, but you are becoming part of the problem.

Basically, she's trying to pull a cheap 'gotcha', as I expressed irritation that the game-related bitching and peeves thread was getting derailed on the regular with RL social justice arguments for pages on end, and I'm frankly just not inclined to put up with anybody's petty grudgewanky bullshit today.

As far as I can tell, the reason why this back-and-forth has been going for so long is because, apparently, no one's willing to put up with anybody's petty grudgewanky bullshit. This bullshit seems to include innocuous, but erroneous statements, and the mere whiff of disagreement.

I don't often hold up a sign and suggest someone chill out, but we're at the point where @Ghost is pausing and attempting to be constructive in a thread titled "RL Anger."

I'd say accusing someone of doing something constitutes an attack, YMMV.

You're making me agree with @Kanye-Qwest on this one. I think you need to re-read what @kk wrote:

I believe that you argued that threads shouldn't be derailed over this stuff and yet here you are four days later on another thread still complaining that people didn't like that word being used.

I also don't recall anyone outright saying or even implying that people have to be offended by cunt.

I don't think @kk's assessment in the first part is correct, but I believe the second is. In either case, I don't see a personal attack in there at all.

People can be mistaken about what a person is or is not doing, and I don't believe that is, rhetorically or otherwise, a personal attack.

Where did anyone say that you /must/ be offended by that?

      I didn't catch that either.

I know that @kk was saying that she didn't think it was something appropriate to say to another person. And I'm pretty sure @saosmash was expressing her distaste for it and offense of it. But that's about it.

If someone were to tell me that I should be offended by something, that's why I sort of wave them off. You do you, I'll do me, and I don't need anyone to tell me who or what I should be offended by.

      @surreality said in RL Anger:

Calling someone a 'vagina' is not exactly inoffensive, now, is it? Exactly.

As I think I said to someone else, the only person that gets to determine whether they are offended by a term is the person who hears it. Whether that reaction is reasonable is another question entirely.

For @Pandora, she doesn't think that people should be offended because people calling one another dicks and cunts has been around for a while. That's not an unreasonable stance. For @Ghost, he (she? I always forget) doesn't think that he (she?) was saying something so dreadfully offensive so as to elicit a vitriolic reaction. The insult wasn't tossed at me, so I wasn't personally offended, but I can see why someone else -- like @saosmash, who works in public defense and has probably had to fight sexism for a long fucking time -- would take offense.

Calling someone a 'vagina' may be offensive, but I don't think any of us can point a stick at someone and say thou shalt not be offended.

Have you had your thyroid checked?

(Check out Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. It's not an Anime finishing move. You're in the right age range; you have a genetic history of autoimmune disorders; and it disproportionately hits women.)

Celebrating death just feels uncomfortable. Like someone, somewhere is probably grieving. Let them have their grief and just... walk away.

If I'm at the point that I want someone to die, chances are I'll feel nothing when they are dead. Neither joy nor remorse.

Because their life and death meant that little to me.

I am enough of a bleeding heart to have cut back a bit on it for that reason, anyway.

I can understand that, but, as I said, this is less about ideology and more about whether I can do it. Weighing the benefits of getting off of flesh meat -- not to mention how it may affect my carbon footprint -- is also on my mind. I might keep to what I'm doing with a "break" day every week.

The ultimate argument of logic in the film I saw was how, physiologically, humans are closer to true vegetarians than omnivores. That caused me to look at some of the cited studies in the film, and I found myself wondering more and more as to what a shift would do for me.

Trying to do vegan while being allergic to nuts is a good way to fuck yourself over due to lack of protein.

      Nuts and legumes.

Still, nutrition has changed since the last time I went vegan/vegetarian. Quinoa is produced enough that it's actually not too expensive. I'm surprised that durum wheat seems to be decently high in protein, along with brown rice. And couscous? Didn't see that coming.

This isn't an ideological thing; this is a can I do it? thing. If I can't, I can't -- I'm not going to cry. If I can, though, I will try it, and it may have some positive health benefits for me.

Won't really know 'til I give it a shot.

I don't think iron's a problem. My supplements purportedly give me 100% of my recommended dosage of iron. Otherwise, I'm pretty fond of tomatoes, quinoa, prunes, and apricots.

Totally serious, but does anyone want to try a plant-based diet with me?

Truth: I just saw the documentary "What the Health?" on Netflix. My partner and I saw a similar documentary last year, and her current medical (sort of) school is run by Seventh-Day Adventists. We want to try a plant-based diet now -- vegan -- despite the fact that I'm allergic to nuts and legumes.

Anyone have any recipes, if they are already doing this? Share some successes?

      Definitely congratulations.

On my own personal note, my partner finished her first year of her physician's assistant program. Next year is clinicals, and then the Boards. Anyone who knows me personally knows how much I consider this a ridiculously-hard accomplishment, and how long we have been working towards this.
