@Coin said in Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?:

@D-bone said in Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?:

Again though, because of this how does one represent a witcher in game without it being totally unfair to Bob who apps a regular human soldier dude because he doesn't want to play a witcher? This is an insurmountable problem of player agency.

A good quote: In a Star Wars game- everyone plays a jedi or no one is a jedi. Everyone plays a witcher or sorcererss or NO one plays a witcher or sorcereress

I don't actually see a problem here, unless you were planning on having a limited number of Witchers/Sorceresses, and everyone else is screwed. If anyone can play a Witcher/Sorceress, then it shouldn't be an issue. People who play normal people or soldiers or whatever are just people who prefer lower-tier characters, which is actually a thing.

True. I'd probably work on playing a Rogue-like or local Ranger/Hunter-like over playing a Witcher.

    • RE: Date Thenomain

I don't miss Ohio. My wife lived there for a very short period of time (2 months? It was weird). My dad lived in that strange Children of the Corn area outside of Toledo and straddling Ohio and Michigan. Shit got scary. His most immediate neighbor had a daughter who was 3 forever. She would always be outside riding her little tricycle when we would come to town. There was also a cemetery nearby, so my wife and I theorized she was actually from there.

Fleas. Every hotel had fleas. There would somehow be a Dog Show no matter where we were. Random hotel in the cornfields? Dog Show. Stopping in Cincinnati for the night? Dog Show.

      Things I like about Ohio:
      The food.
Random artsy coffee shops in the middle of cornfield land. These places were like The Field of Dreams but for coffee enthusiasts.
The long stretches of straight road. Because I have a fast car and my wife and I sometimes like to go fast.

Edit: This is supposed to be about dating Theno, sorry:

I should date Theno because I would take him from Ohio, thus saving him from the Children of the Corn.

@Rook But then your employer still looks upon you with shifty, questioning eyes despite the fact.

      I've gotten that.

@The-Sands The Strange and Numenera are pretty interesting. The Cypher system overall, I guess.

Another system I have been looking at is Degenesis. Not a whole lot has been put out since 2015, but what they do have is pretty nifty.

Additionally, @Reason and @Sammi , there is a wiki out there that you can pull all of the Skill/what-have-you data from. I was able to do that with all of the armor and then double checked to make sure values were correct. I even stored it in xml format, much like the GoogleDocs that you have on your skills/qualities/etc so far.

Tiny update: we are chugging along with the chargen code. It's slow going, but it's going. A lot of my code is repetitive at the moment, but I'll simplify/refine once we make sure things are running the way we want it to. I should have up to the skills section working properly by the end of the weekend coming up. Properly managing armor/augments will come right after that.

Instead of removing the freebie skills and then checking the skills.values() at the end, you could keep the skills listed and make the module adjust according to values spent. It would then allow the character to raise those 'freebie' skills higher as needed and still keep track of the points adjustment.

      Basically, Mage Guy:
module checks that Mage Guy chose Priority A
module allows user to choose from a list of skills.
user chooses 2 skills (1 at a time, probably)
      module sets their skills to:

      Conjuring: 5
      Counterspelling: 5

I guess here, you would want to make it so that the user couldn't adjust a skill value below it's 'base', which in this case would be '5' for those two. The same logic could come from how you've set the metahuman attributes so that they aren't adjusted below their set values. <<<
      ...

Later on, user wants to raise one of their skills to 6:
module checks that Conjuring is already at 5
user adjusts Conjuring up by 1.

skill points (or karma) are adjusted accordingly.

@BobGoblin Haha, the now classic 'OOC Waiting Room for plots' method instead of players investing into things going on grid-side.

My extremely short time on Arx was filled with grid-side RP/plotting/whatever-ness. I was very happy with it. Some with Dystopia while it was around (I think that was the name).

      @Reason

At this time we have a partially built chargen but haven't gotten around to completing it due in part by the fact that we're looking at how we're wanting to implement things like armor and cyber/bio. We had a brief discussion about it a few weeks ago, but never circled back around to it / followed up with it.

@tirit should be back around tomorrow or so to interact with you / us.

@Packrat I was definitely on that game. It was 100% amazing.

Another mention for all of this. Musoapbox is just one place to post up information about a game. There are tons of resources out there where you can promote and recruit for a game.

It amazes me that I don't see more promoting of games in other venues (many of which are free! (or low dollar amount)).

@faraday Just as a slightly random interjection (or whatever), male peak physical fitness is around 30-35 before it begins to decline. 45, 50? You're working out every day for multiple hours a day in order to maintain, but gains in physical fitness would be much slower than that 30 year old.

Mental capability is a whole other thing. There are two types of mental capabilities: Fluid and Crystallized. One deteriorates at around 26, the other at about 70. Crystallized is basically steady through out our lives.

All in all, mental capabilities follow along the same path of physical ability in that it starts to decline around 30-40s (one of the reasons I could never grasp why intellect would continue to go up while physical traits go down). ... Mostly because your brain is a muscle just like your biceps.

Anyhow, papers are published on that topic, this is totally off the main topic, sorry.

For what I do: Discrete Math, Finite Math (I know, that's like barely basic math, but include logic symbols), Logic Symbols...

Following Logical lines of thought. Truth Tables... I fall back on Truth Tables and Discrete Math a lot. For everything else, I just use a program to do it for me because I'm lazy.

Also, Evennia is fun to play around with. Don't take the whole "Well then you need to learn more about Django, and this, and that." For me, that's exactly why I am playing around with it. Then again, I'm a nerd and I just love learning things (I'm also a grunt and shiny objects generally make me happy, so take whatever I say as a grain of salt).

Hah, all my original statement was going to do is restate what you said. He meant well, bit was mostly just him running, I believe.

When I was around, I think it peaked at about 20 players, but mostly stuck around that 5 mark.
