    • RE: Pokemon?

AHEM. Gif? Where is my gif...

As amazing as that gif is, there are much more appropriate gifs for this thread. Gifs that will almost certainly make everyone drop everything that they are doing, and exclusively make Pokemon MUs for the rest of time.

... okay, so maybe Jigglypuff doesn't approve. But just hear me out! Because Youtube has a treat for all of us!

I see I have your attention. Tiny... furry... adorable attention.

      Awwww... thanks, gif!

      ...

      ...

Ahem. For real for real. Detective Pikachu looks amazing, and I am upset that it took this long for a live action Pokemon film to be a thing. PokeMu must be in place when the movie drops. Because logins and player apps will be through the goddamn roof.

What hoops are still needed to be jumped through for this, and which ones can we, your data entry minions, jump through to help speed it along?

They did put in a cap for max velocity, which is... weird. Not sure if that can be removed outright, or if you can just set it crazy high, if you want proper 'always can go fahstah' physics.

@misadventure Uh... maybe? I'm not sure? It was written... jesus, a decade ago, and the testbed has been down for at least 6 years.

I DO know that there were options for multiple fuel types. Fuel1 to charge the computer systems/power plant reactor, Fuel2 for Delta-V/engines... I don't know if RCS things ran on fuel or what.

      Hopefully this will work!

      https://github.com/jennkryst/HSpace-5

There is a missing file in my directory that github wouldn't allow me to load - working theory is because the file I have is 0kb, maybe? I dunno! The file that's missing:

      hconsole.h

Have at ye, code! If this gets put up anywhere for testing, let me know! I used to crash the testbed MU pretty regularly doing nonsense things.

I successfully resurrected my old laptop long enough to transfer the HSpace 5 files off of it. I can throw them somewhere and have people who know what they're doing take a look at them?

ETA: Folks will need to tell me where to go to put the things up. I am le dumb.

@d-bone said in What RPG SYSTEM do you want to play on a Mu*?:

      Shadowrun 5e.

YES, under the caveat that it uses the Karma chargen system instead of priority.

To explain to @Thenomain you start with minumum attributes, 0 skills, and a pile of karma. Now go buy everything.

    • RE: HSpace 5.0

@rnmissionrun I dunno what 4.x does. 5 was hard code that had 0 drag (so you can coast forever for 0 fuel), can change heading without changing vector (for sweet drifts?), everything was module-based (so you could have a catalogue of parts, and have multiple of the same thing installed for ++good silliness), and newtonian physics that included the mass of cargo for deltaV calculations (takes a lot longer to increase speed when your cargo hold is full).

... and maybe some other stuff.

      I didn't necro for once!

      Ahem.

So there is this ECG (not to be confused with CCG or LCG) where purchase economy is governed by dice? Think if Magic the Gathering didn't have mana, but dice rolls to figure out what you can do. It is called Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn, and I am obsessed.

Particularly, with the way the dice mechanic works. Am I obsessed enough to try to develop an entire RPG system based on it from the ground up? Not sure just yet! But it all looks so fancy, so who knows?

It was previously mentioned to be the FFG L5R Beta, but... the FFG L5R RPG is published now, so that might be the thing. OR I could be wrong, not sure what coding has been done.

If skew's SW game is a smashing success code-wise, then you could feasibly run a L5R FFG game if that game'll let you take bits of that code.

      And it'd be on Ares.

Maybe? In a twist that should surprise no one, FFG L5R dice are completely different from Genesys/Star Wars dice.

Buuuut I haven't compared symbols on the dice to see if they can directly sub or not.

Was this still happening? Especially with the recent publication of the new edition?

      RISE, THREAD!!

So, I finally found this damn code. On the busted old laptop that won't let me connect to a network to transfer the files, or use a USB stick to move them over that way. More news as this develops.

@insomniac7809 It looks like EVERY Courtier school has Kata, except for the few Courtier/Shugenja schools? Also, Crab has a Shinobi school, which is hilarious.

I have adventured. They did not have a stand alone dice set, so I am dice-less atm. Proxy dice are easy enough.

Digging into the book, will see what changed from the early beta.

ETA - There is no Scorpion Bushi school. So you are either Shinobi and pretending (and they are better at faking being a courtier than a bushi), OR you have to go learn from another clan.

    • RE: Social Stats in the World of Darkness

@tinuviel I am extra rambly at the moment. AHEM. You choose what they DO, but not the success or outcome of their actions - that's up to the dice (or the sytem itself allowing you to handwave things).

It's also a proposal for a new way to look at it. Yes, you type the words. You set up the character from birth onwards. But you also need to accept the outcome that the system spits out for you.

I should probably sleep and come back to this with better brainpower.

    • RE: Social Stats in the World of Darkness

I regret not replying to this sooner, because this is one of my mini-crusades.

Someone mentioned some number of pages and/or days ago about how dice are abstractions. I will further this. Just as everyone does not mention weaver stance and breathing whatsit for their gun fights, people also don't mention, like... body language clues, or facial ticks, or tone of voice.

You know... that whole... 'communication is only 30% verbal' thing (which I'm probably wrong on the 30% figure).

Like, I personally don't know about the whole body language, glance to the left and you're lying methodology. Even if I did, the other player would have to drop hints in their pose. However. Nobody wants to wait 30 minutes while I google psychology and body language things to do this in my poses.

Going back father, there is the whole... mix up self with character mindset. We should maybe develop the mindset that we are not our characters. We are watching characters do things. We can influence, like a choose your own adventure, but ultimately the dice/system dictate things.

I would also like to discuss policy limits of things. But that is it's own post I have been meaning to write but have been lazy about. SOON.

If you set a high bar, people leave, because most players are, quite frankly, lazy af.

You realize this means that only you and I would be left on a game, and that, to me, makes me ooze with anticipation.

I'd end up there, too, but timezones and stupid schedules on my part would mean no scenes ever, and now I am a sad.

      But yeah.

      Anticipation, yo
