Sounds interesting. One thing though leapt out at me...

and how many words you wrote.

I don't like the idea of encouraging nonsensical purple prose that takes a half hour to write and even longer to interpret. It actively punishes those who pose concisely.

Does it, though? 30 minute purple prose pose is X, 1 minute quick pose is y. So long as 30y=X in word count, cool beans.

@seamus It was in that one game... uh... Pearl maybe?

Another question is how money works, since the games make it look like you just beat eachother up and take each other's lunch money.

@seamus Maybe I put those martial arts skills to use against them, or maybe I walk away? I unno, I just don't want to waste a week making the prettiest Pokémon in order to get access to a gym again.

@bobotron I already have plot ideas, so... whee?

As long as I don't HAVE to do a beauty contest, I'm cool. Or, as long as I can have a teammate do it for me. Either/or.

That's what TMs and HMs are for! 😄

You misspelled Pokémon Breeders. They are how you get Fire Squirtles and the like.

I don't think region is a thing that limits them so much as encounter rate and environment.

Though if it does, it begs the question... which region?

Also, I just remembered there is a difference between PTU and PTA character classes, and I weep, since the one class that builds vehicles is Adventures, not United.

      You forgot Mummy, you coward!

      ...

      Ahem.

      ...

I'm also kind of in the non-WoD category? I've had a recent obsession with Battletech/Mechwarrior RPG, am dabbling with Exalted, and am putting far more thought than I'd like into making a Pokemon version of the FFG Genesys system. So... whee?

ETA Sleep makes for cranky me. Buuuut I've been plugging Mummy longer than some of your options have even existed.

      We need the game first!

sigh We could ask @Thenomain really nicely, I suppose.

You can ask nicely. I will hold off on asking him for games until I have dollah-dollah-billz to throw at him. Or until we can convince him to take payment in that oldest of currencies:

Probably the wrong place to make a note of this, buuuuuuut... our blanket-ban on discussing politics stuff outside of the politics sub-forum has kind of allowed us to overlook what has been described as 'a bunch of Sweedish edgelords made V5 suuuuper fascy and filled it with neo nazi dog-whistling', and I am disappoint.

How about setting up a full oWoD game where every player in the oWoD game is an NPC, a full fledged world fully running fully grided oWoD game.

Players who connect are NOT part of the WoD game.

Instead, they play characters from anything BUT a WoD game.

      Pokemon? Good to go.
D&D? Also great to have you.
      Matrix? Sure, why not.
      Shadowrun? Welcome aboard!
Amber? We welcome those of the pattern!

Essentially, the entire purpose for players is to go on and absolutely DESTROY the world in every possible way for the WoD NPC's.

Wipe them out, make them cry, ruin their tea breaks, whatever you want to do.

Ergo, a crackfic of a MUSH.

That's a WoD game I would love to play 🙂

I did this on New Prospect... made that Iron Kingdoms/Circle Orboros/Tharn Cannibal witch, who cast buff spells on Werewolves and used some of their blood to fuel her majik. But my secret spell remains secret, MWAHAHAH.

This ties into the current fan-rage about Vampire 5th edition (a lot of which is I DETEST CHANGE AND FEAR THE NEW when you whip away the curtain... people are cowards)

Good sir-and/or-madam, my rage at Vampire 5th is that they changed too little. I will allow the V20 books returning to pre-nWoD shenanigans, because it they were anniversary releases (which are in dire need of getting Mummy and KotE published already!)

      But.

Vampire 5th continues down that path. Oh look, a minor variation on how to play the 13 clans (plus all the other clans which don't really count, SHHHH). Oh gee, are seven of the clans going to be in the 'good guy' faction? I AWAIT THE ANSWER WITH BAITED BREATH.

I ADORE that they have changed the feeding mechanic. The powers look alright at a glance. The world continuing to plod along, with the End Times retcon though? I find incredibly dull.

      ...

Unrelated to all of that, I want to get someone of Romani descent to make a version of John Mullaney's 'Midget vs N-Word' standup bit, but replace Midget with Gypsy. Which word is the worse word? Both are racial slurs, but some are more accepted than others (which is probably why that book was allowed to be written in the first place - Romani are still thrown under the bus today, to say nothing of 20 years ago.)

    • RE: Good or New Movies Review

@thenomain said in Good or New Movies Review:

For instance, I actually liked the Super Mario Brothers movie. I know that nobody else on the planet did, and I know that if I saw it again I would cringe so hard that I’d invert myself, but fuck it.

SO DID I... mostly. My most negative association with the film is that during my fifth watch-through, one of my dogs died. Which just hit me harder than I'd have thought after 20 years. WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME, THENO?!? (The second most negative is that wacky 90s cliffhanger that we will never get resolved.)

I may end up regretting missing Wrinkle in Time in theaters, but I was too busy being HYPED on A Quiet Place's audio design.

For my own late-addition: Solo? It was entertaining, and gets bonus points for triggering my schadenfreude when others rage against it.

As always with the Star Wars stuff for me, I find it incredibly more compelling when they drop random world-building (galaxy-building?) details that just shatter years of presupposed rules or facts of the setting. Entire swaths of Wookiepedia are just up and invalidated because of cool-effect-thing. 'Gravity wells have shadows in the Hyperspace realm that makes things explode when they interact with them' FUCK THAT. You want to throw the emergency break while at Light Speed while in atmosphere? DONE! You want to engage the Hyperdrive while still in atmosphere? EASY! The Empire stores Battle Station plans on magnetic tape? HELLS TO THE YES.

... that said, I do have a few minor critiques.

      • L3-37 needed to be in at least 200% more of the movie. Sassy Droid's Rights activist? Yes please!
      • The whole Kessel Workers' riot could have been at least twice as long. (Unrelated to Solo, but BB-8 using the rich dude's money as a weapon against the police? Could have validated the entire Canto Bight plot for me BY ITSELF, even if it had 0 impact on Finn's arc).
      • The whole Kessel Run bit (I am of a similar mind to Darths and Droids when it comes to the Kessel Run - that it was just a thing Han threw out to sound impressive (and rolled poorly on his bluff check, as evidenced by Obi-wan's reaction). So including it as an actual thing, while visually neat, was a bit of a drawback for me.)

    • RE: The City Cloaked in Stars

@ixokai Riverworld is a pseudo-afterlife thing on a SpaceAlien planet made of nothing but a giant river valley. ~40 Billion human souls are put into clone bodies and let loose for mysterious reasons. People there range from pre-historic humans to folks from (insert date of the end of the world here).

Everworld, meanwhile, was written by K. A. Applegate, of Animorphs fame. Basically ALL GODS AND MYTHOLOGIES ARE REAL, and exist in a pocket dimension away from reality (but decided to take all their loyal followers with them). But it's not a perfect copy of Earth, so AztecLand is literally right next to NorseWorld and EgyptVille (which are frequently invaded for folks to sacrifice). Fast forward to modern day, the player characters are YOINKED from the real world and dropped into Everworld (but only kinda sorta? There is a copy of themselves in the real world going through the motions, and every time their Everworld self goes to sleep, Realworld gets an update).

It's an idea I've been toying with for a while, but SO MANY IDEAS are in the queue ahead of it.
