Is this more Riverworld, where you are there now forever and ever? Or is this more like Everworld, where you wake up and bounce back and forth between places?

RE: Random Idea - Multi-Themed MUX
@bobotron Obviously, because I need mushes for all of them! NEEEEEED.
Ahem. If it's more like... uh... a mush of different tabletop games, there could be a way to set which dice you use, or which +sheet is active. Or different IC grids for different games like Dark Communion/New Prospect/(other games on the mu I forget what they are), but those take different charbits.

RE: A (Mildly Complete) List of Current Games
I kind of feel that the WoD should also include breakdown of 1e or GMC for nWoD.
GAMES
City of Hope is oWoD (Revised).
Let Freedom Ring is a 20th game of everything - portent.genesismuds.com 8020 / http://letfreedomring.wikidot.com/
Dark Communion is a Dark Ages Vampire game set in Iberia - dc.muxnexus.com 5555
Exalted 3e is a thing, and about to reboot due to the Dragon Blooded book having just finished it's kickstarter! - phantasmgames.org 2526

RE: Random Idea - Multi-Themed MUX
@taika Mostly because I want to play more than just that one system. Iron Kingdoms, Mechwarrior/Battletech RPG, FFG Star Wars, Exalted, L5R...
I mean, I get that we can port the general idea of a character from one to another. I figured out how to make a Circle Orboros Warlock in oWoD. Battletech could kinda work with Exalted, if you just have all the Warstriders in the world. But it's tricksy.

RE: A new platform?
@lotherio Versatility for it's own sake is problematic. Not to mention sometimes a command line is different because a coder just happened to write it that way (or may have been forced to write it that way because of things in the code, I don't know how that sorcery works).
@faraday brought up my other point: Computers revolve around the point/click interface (for most people, who don't go into the command prompt). During, for lack of a better term, the golden era of MUdom, people still had to do DOS run cmd whatsits.
-
RE: A new platform?
@squirreltalk Easiest answer is code.
I feel MUs have fallen out of popularity because of variable command structure. The bboard code has been around forever, so everyone takes it for granted that you know the way it works.
BUT. Last night, City of Hope saw someone new to MUs go crazy because the help files weren't clear. +help bb, not +help +bb. @mail is another area, considering the differences between Penn, BRANDY-mail, and... I forget the others.
To say nothing of game- or genre-specific commands. +hurt? +damage? +lose? +equipment? +inventory? +gain? +spend? (The list can literally go on forever)

RE: Random Idea - Multi-Themed MUX
As much as I'd love a place to run ALL OF THE THINGS that I get interested in... it... could be bad?
I dunno. It's more 'so many different systems!' than anything else, I guess.

RE: Looking for a MU or Two
@bad-at-lurking So you are specifically against weeaboos and otaku characters. Which helps answer things a bit.
... but leaves you with slim pickings. I can't think of anywhere that lacks the sort of player who makes those characters. Even ignoring the occasional wiki-pic that someone just uses Anime or Anime-ish artwork, there are folks who go out of their way to put the trope into a game they normally wouldn't work in. (Doing this sort of thing is my favorite game. Making a character from X setting in Y game, but still somehow functions close to the way they do in X).
-
RE: Looking for a MU or Two
@bad-at-lurking I mean more which tropes are you trying to dodge? I ask without trying to be difficult, but to maybe help!
Exalted could count as anime due to Dragonball or Avatar influences just as easily as you could say it is based on Beowulf, Gilgamesh, Greek Myths, or even the Bible. Can also be Lords and Lady-ish, and possibly Super Hero-y (no tights or capes, but so many do-gooders, it hurts).
Moving on, Battletech could count as anime due to Big Robots (and legal battles because of Macross). It has a Lords and Ladies aspect in certain ways, so ymmv.
Shadowrun could count as anime because Ghost in the Shell, Bubblegum Crisis, or other works in the cyberpunk genre. Could be Super Hero-y, for variable definition of Super Hero.
Star Wars os not Anime, but is full of tropes, Lords and Ladies, and quasi-super heroes.

RE: Looking for a MU or Two
Need more details on what qualifies as anime and what doesn't.

RE: Respecs.
A couple of things!
- This shows the WoD-centric mindset of the Soapbox (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), because some games have the idea of respecs built into them - FATE for sure, and I think Eclipse Phase, as well? Possibly others!
- While proficiency does drop off with lack of practice, it can be presumed that you can pick it up again far quicker than someone who never had proficiency before - you likely won't have to break yourself of bad habits like the first time around.
- Since most games follow ACTION MOVIE logic more than REALITY SIMULATION logic, the training montage (as mentioned above) is a thing... OR you could just James Bond it. Never been shown flying a plane before? Oh, I knew how to all along!
- Following #3, this is why Mummy: the Curse is the best damn thing ever. Their version of Humanity is called Memory. Increasing it literally lets them remember more of their past. Similarly... every attribute, skill, and power, along with most merits... is something you could always do. But you forgot how, until JUST NOW when you spent the XP to remember.
tldr: Respecs are totes fine.

RE: Exalted Third Edition
Minor necro!
The Exalted MU is in the process of rebooting, since the Dragon Blooded stuff exists. It looks like it'll be set in the Scavenger Lands (unless I can convince all of the people to vote to set it in the West, because BOATS... or, we can hold off for the eventual reboot that will come when the Lunar book comes out.)
ETA: I've been trying to review their wiki here and there, and zomg all the embedded ads keep making my computer shit itself.

RE: Development Thread: Sacred Seed
A quick band-aid to prevent baby-factory issue is to ICly have control over conception. So your character has literal control over their own fertility. This could add a new dynamic to politics! Are you heirless because you just haven't been trying, or because your mate just isn't as committed to producing said heir?
There is another, weirder idea which could be fun, but I doubt too many folks would be interested in being pod people, born form literal seeds planted in the ground (to maximize the pun levels of the game title)

RE: Holla Holla Holla
@chet Do you have a code that involves...
Somewhat more seriously, there are like... 30 ideas floating around somewhere that I will totally poke you for when I remember what they are and have time free from jorb.
They all open in two weeks. (inside joke, don't freak out and run away)

RE: #WIDWW pt 2 - ST, Player, or staff?
@thenomain In addition to what was mentioned above, Toreador are basically Anne Rice vampires. You can go through most of the VtM clans and suddenly their discipline list makes sense. Brujah are Lost Boys, Nosderatu are... Nosferatu, and so on.
ETA derp, I can't read, thought you said a different thing. Whee.

RE: nWorld of Darkness 1E v 2E
@sunnyj said in nWorld of Darkness 1E v 2E:
I don't like flat XP costs.
To be fair, I (and I assume a non-zero number of others) would be totally cool with non... flat... xp costs if chargen followed this formula. Everyone starts with 1 dot in each attribute, 0 dots in everything else, and a pile of xp to spend on things.
werewolf [...]? 1e.
A day shall come, when I am truly bored, that I will passive aggressively just spam a 1e Forsaken staff with TS Harmony violations. BUT THAT IS NOT THIS DAY.

RE: Development Thread: Sacred Seed
I'm also getting a bit of a Codex Alera vibe from this, which could be an interesting idea to expand on. The possibility that everyone has the most minor of seeded power (using influence over water to make faucets flow or stop... influence over fire to make lanterns burn bright or dim) could be a thing. Or maybe that's how the nobles work and I missed a thing about it?

@lithium What's spelljammer?
Boats in SPAAAACE (like Treasure Planet) with each solar system inside it's own Ptolemic Crystal Sphere (this is the setting default, but 90% of the actual table top version I played ended up being more Trek-like)

#3 ...I have a little more trouble worldbuilding for. But I would personally play it! >.> Someone else make it!
FINE.
I can help build and stuff! Buuut... will need a crash-course reminder in how building actually works, though, cause it's been ages.
