I really enjoyed Inquisition, aside from all of the characters being god awful trash heaps (except Cassandra and the Iron Bull guy).

DEEP BREATH um wow you take that back Varric Tethras is the best Dragon Age companion ever, even if he did get sad between 2 and Inquisition, he is still my fake platonic true love. (also cassandra and iron bull are gr8)

@tnp said in FCs on Comic MUs:

@tempest Keep in mind it's 1964. There's no tolerance for gays. In fact, the word's not really in use yet. Homosexuals are considered deviant by most of the government, the country, and the world.

And this baffles me as a game choice and is the reason I would never play this game, much as I love superhero comics and hero/villain rp in general.

@ixokai said in FCs on Comic MUs:

Remember when I said we wouldn't tolerate anyone being a jerk to someone for playing a FC wrong?
The thing is that's never happened

Maybe I'm a pessimist, but I think it's far more likely you just haven't heard about it.

@secretfire i mean you almost had a point until the "BUT CLIMATE CHANGE IS THE REAL PROBLEM". By that argument we shouldn't be roleplaying anywhere, about anything. We should be playing games, or even wasting time online. This logic breaks down immediately.

Not sure how "This setting doesn't appeal to me" mutated into "you shouldn't enforce your setting". Straw men!

I DO NOT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOUR WHAT IF.

I don't appreciate the all caps.

Can we please tone it down some?

You have lost your damn mind.

When I heard you named Auspice mod, I said 'oh, that's going to be TERRIBLE."

And it is. I'd say she should be told to step down so that she can continue being confrontational and acerbic as a poster, since that is pretty clearly an aspect of this board she enjoys, but...well, no. I'll still say that.

I didn't expect YOU (oh gosh sorry caps) to go full bonehead but here we are.

    • RE: Coming in 2016 - Bump in the Night

This is what I mean by organic. If two characters are in a public place, having a public scene, anyone there can join, or comment on what's going on, whatever. Just like in real life, there are rude and polite ways to insert yourself in a conversation/situation.

Also just like in life (I prefer RP that strives for some level of realism in interpersonal interaction) if you are in a public place and a discussion suddenly turns private, you don't teleport to a broom closet or carry on like you're IN a broom closet, getting angry at those who intrude. You get up, make an excuse, and leave. Or delay the Omg Private moment until later.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't like paging people to ask if it's ok to join them, and I don't like the ooc room discussion that devolves into "oh so sorry! Smileyface smileyface smileyface." and "I'll just ignore this and we'll time stop and pretend we never came in here and you didn't see us ok?" I don't mind a quick ooc 'cool to join in?' just for the sake of being polite, but I think if you are in an IC hangout and you are roleplaying, that's a public scene and anyone can participate.

his may mean letting an accusation go because the complainer isn't willing to pursue a course of action for whatever reason, and that needs to be something that's okay.

But it isn't okay, is it? Because if a player is doing this stuff to one person...they are probably doing it to others, too. Like, yes you should strive for comfort and understanding but at the same time the staff's job is to do the best they can for the players. That means protecting them from known shitlord elements.

    • RE: Staff and ethics

@roz If your friendship can't survive one or the other of you saying "Hey, I think you are overreacting" or "can you please stop doing X because y?" then it's not much of a friendship, imo. And if they aren't really your friend, then why care about how they'll take it?! FREEEEEDOM! Ok the last part is silly but the first part, I mean.

But I think my feelings on the term "professionalism" are well documented. I don't like it for the sole reason that I think a lot of people take it to imply obsequiousness or being servile. I'm not about that life, and I'm definitely not down for the expectation that I will treat game obligations like a job.

The playing on their own game bullet point is a tough one. I think it would definitely be better if most staffers didn't, but then no one would staff games. I like being in on the lore-writing. The creation of setting, and history, and plot. That's super fun for me. Lots of games don't even have that stuff. I think at the very least you should not be playing in any 'sphere' or 'faction' or whatever that you are staffing for. I don't care about staff alts being transparent or not. If you can't trust staffers enough to let them play quietly, idk. What are you doing there?

Is there a highlander angle outside of taking heads? That's sort of the entire goal of the series. There can be only one, and the others aren't just going to kindly decapitate themselves.

@saosmash Amen. People will take characters with totally reasonable sheets and dial them up to 13, or sometimes to a nice and steady 8. They need no encouragement to be edgy or confrontational, in my experience.

    • RE: The 100: The Mush

@Miss-Demeanor Gotcha. Ok, yeah - that's not great unless they are playing to fulfill a specific role (I think plot antagonists being played by staff is fine, so long as they are identifiable and take down-able.) I guess this is just such a tricky balance. You don't want your staffers to not have fun, but if you are running a game to feature their alts then you get the complaints being seen here: IE make it obvious from the beginning, or invite-only, or what have you.

@ghost Keep playing what? I forgot how to play the only instrument I ever knew. 😞

    • RE: Questionably viable character types and tropes (tangent from staff ethics convo)

@miss-demeanor said in Questionably viable character types and tropes (tangent from staff ethics convo):

@kanye-qwest I'd say more YMMV. I played an absolutely horrible bitch of a vampire on TR. But everyone was aware that it was IC. But part of it may have been that I absolutely let her be wrong, and publicly so. She was a beatstick, a dog on a chain, but man, she'd bark her damn head off if she had an opinion. I still snicker to this day that she ran the only Elysium in town for awhile. Folks either loved or hated how she ran it.

Ok, but your average WoD game seems a lot more chatty OOC and sandboxy than any game I'd like to play. I don't want to feel like I need to be smiling and explaining myself on channels or befriending strangers just to RP a character. Like I said - that's not my jam.

      @faraday

That's not really addressing the suggestion, though. The suggestion was "if you are going to have this group's plots all focus on the same (staff) PCs, then you should support other people forming their own playgroups so they can get some ability to Do the Things"

Note - I'm not really trying to bandwagon against this, because I love love love the idea of DA themed games. LOVE. Do what you're doing.
