@packrat Arm actuators actually. upper arm, lower arm, hand. In the base game it just made the difficulty change if you were missing some. I guess they made it change the damage!

Still in this case as wolverines and griffons have hands and such the damage would be the same as for a ShadowHawk.

@misadventure It is amazing how many people don't understand that. We need the failures in order to make the successes have meaning. If all we do is win all the time it is just /boring/ because there is no variety. Yet so many people cannot abide failing at anything...

      It is strange.

    • RE: Search Broken

The search function itself seems to be weird for me, I put in a word and then it keeps popping up postings that don't even contain the word... though I thought that was just bad search code, the internal error though I have fixed by logging out and logging back in, no idea if it will work for you.

@packrat A shadowhawk does the same punch damage as a griffon or wolverine. It's based on pure tonnage.

@tnp I don't know who they are really, I just know my application attempt there felt like /they/ wanted to design my character instead of me so I bailed very fast.

@ganymede One thing I do like about the new BattleTech game is that it is somewhat procedurally generated. Missions don't always have the same composition in them. So one time it might be a Centurion, the next it might be a Kintaro, even on a re-load (I failed once, centurion managed to outrun my severely beat up lance and escape so had to reload it)

@lotherio So for a foreign noble savage type of concept, it'd have to be someone married in at his point I take it, since you have to pick a house?

Considering China attacked through Alaska/Canada, it would make sense for there to be chinese army holdouts and continuations up there.

      Would be a neat twist.

@wildbaboons And absolutely is not for me due to the setting and people running it.

@jaded Griffons do come later 🙂 I have ran into a few heavies, a grasshopper, a jagermech, some Dragons, but for the most part, I am I think 80 odd weeks in now and I haven't seen any of the big nasty mech's yet. Centurions are deadly, Jenners can be scary in numbers. The biggest thing about the ShadowHawk which is making it very nice in the game so far is it's speed, 5/8 with jump jets is nice mobility.

I am running two ShadowHawks in my main lance right now, both are loaded near max armor 4 jj's, a large laser and an LRM-15 each. How you customize your mechwarriors matters a LOT.

It is imperative to put split fire mechwarriors into those shadowhawks to make sure they are applying full damage constantly and when heat gets high, melee attack to cool off.

Accompanying those two shadow hawks is a hunchback which I stripped the ac-20 out for an ac-10 (more ammo/range and ac damage is beefed up in the game compared to tabletop) and a pair of medium lasers with max armor and some jump jets, and a Trebuchet I've kitted with an upgraded zeus lrm-20 and 3 medium lasers. The hunchback is the slowpoke at 4/6 but it's been working well.

Sometimes you have to chase vehicles down (and my god, kill those first, they can do tremendous damage but are usually pretty fragile, especially if you can get up on them and melee attack them) and on those missions I usually bring a jenner or a firestarter.

Also forgot, BattleTech or Mekton or any other giant stompy robot game that isn't a hodgepodge of thirty billion mecha sources.

I am enjoying the game a lot, it does have a big bad memory bleed in it so I had to exit out and restart it but otherwise, it is a lot of fun. The story is pretty traditional battletech but that is absolutely fine for me. I am enjoying customizing my /three/ ShadowHawk's so they don't suck. How do you do this, you ask? 3 Machine Guns, a Large Laser, and an SRM-6 or an LRM-10.

I like how a Centurion is actually a /good/ mech, was kind of disappointed I didn't get my first heavy kill, but that's ok. Can't wait to get into the bigger stuff!

I am trying to figure out how to be a noble from one of the houses that are not local. A foreign noble, will have to hope to catch the staff when we all have some time to discuss things as the Houses as listed are all local.

I would kill for an all OC comic book game, preferably with a system that is easy to get into and learn. Some of the super hero systems are pretty harsh. There are some that combat could be pretty automated for which would be a huge help.

I would kill for a Western themed game.

I would kill for a Dark Sun game, even if it used a whole different ruleset than D&D that setting is amazing.

I would kill for a pure science fiction game that everyone had to work together on, preferably original world.

I would kill for a Dresden Files game in a setting that didn't give a rats ass about Harry Dresden, and didn't try to follow the storyline of the books. Just use the world as originally presented and run with it.

    • RE: Heroic Sacrifice

@faraday And I know for a fact, a LOT (relative to my perspective) of people never played on TGG because of the short campaign length.

That's what I mean by going after your target audience. There are people whom will not be bothered by it, might even enjoy it and that is totally fine.

But there are people who won't be into it, and won't be attracted to that style of game, which is is also totally fine.

On the subject of heroic sacrifice though, in order for it to be a 'sacrifice' it needs to be one, people place a lot less value on short term characters, so it's not really a 'sacrifice' to have them die in an exceptionally heroic way. Someone doing so on a 'never ending' game however, it's a lot more powerful moment because it is an actual sacrifice of a character that otherwise, might have been around still in 10 years.

@lotherio Why would I not like you? This is MSB, we can rage against one another one day, and then come up with kick ass cool stories and RP the next.

    • RE: Fate Development Thread

FATE is easier in a MU format when you reduce the impact of FATE Points themselves. They become less an issue and less a resource management tool, which is /important/ because with a 24/7 online game the time format is a TON different than a weekly gaming session or whatnot, where FATE points become much more manageable.

Once you hack that away, you can then provide other bonuses for accepting compels, or for triggering them.

It is not a hard system to adjust for MU just nobody has really /tried/ there's a lot of systems that don't do well in MU* format but people seem pretty afraid to even try and change them from the get go so you get hacked in house rules that just confuse everyone worse.
