@surreality To be fair, Ganymede /has/ pointed it out when it occurred, and /nobody listened/.

She was actively agreeing with me, and nobody cared. They kept raging on me, and just let her slide. She pointed this out multiple times as it happened.

So the prospect of a 'voice' being powerful? Maybe in other situations. Here? Not so much.

@auspice I was specifically talking to the point that some people get dogpiled much more often and more relentlessly than others who say the same things, as @Ganymede has said on multiple occasions, and I really appreciate that she did that.

However the whole walking with giants thing? It doesn't really come across that way to me at least, there are some personalities that just enjoy finding fault in things. They /will/ find a fault in a thing, and will harp, badger, belittle, dogpile, because ... whatever reason fits I guess.

I don't really know.

I am not exactly blameless in some of the dog piling, I know I certainly have done it before too.

I would love to be able to write my personal thoughts in a way that did not engender criticism, but I think a /lot/ of that has to do with the nature of this Forum. It can move /fast/ sometimes, and we want to get our two cents in, and so we don't edit ourselves or filter ourselves as well as we should.

However, by posting /anything/ you are inviting discourse on the subject. To not expect people to reply is somewhat silly.

If you are going to moderate, make a list of rules. Make the rules clear lines that everyone can understand. Then enforce them. Harshly.

There is a very real schism in the way certain people say something and can get away with it, and then someone else says the /same thing/ and they do not get away with it.

The rules need to be applied equally.

They need to come down on everyone equally.

Otherwise... it's the same old meaningless circle jerk where some people can get away with saying anything, and other people cannot say anything without being attacked and railed on.

If you half-ass this moderation thing (Which is what it seems like right now honestly) it's not going to make /anyone/ happy.

On the other topic of the hog pit, if you remove the hog pit you're going to have an even tougher time to moderate things because there won't be anywhere that people can just... vent.

Venting is how some people move through stuff and move on. Without that outlet it's just going to make the explosions when they happen elsewhere be all the more messy.

It /would/ be nice if everyone could just get along and sing campfire songs and be completely nice to each other but at this point opinions are so ingrained in some cases that even perfectly reasonable statements get someone's back up and there is a pissing contest or a cat fight or a dog pile.

In a lot of ways, this Forum is best equated to the power of the Mob Mentality. In a Mob, people have anonymity, we have that same anonymity.

Everyone knows what Anonymity does by this point really, it removes filters and people behave without restraint.

I am so looking for BattleTech, can't wait, I kickstarted it at the 50$ level, haven't even read the new novelettes by Stackpole but just want to /play/ the campaign.

@auspice That sounds like a nice job, wish I could find one like that. I'd love to put in 4 10's or 3 12's and a four and be done...

It's too bad that data is so expensive in the USA, but at least we're getting to the point were cellular is the more reliable connection everywhere.

There are still carriers with unlimited data plans. Even Verizon brought theirs back. So there is that.

@Arkandel Kinda reminds me of the way Fate does magic in Dresden Files. You can do stuff on the fly, but if you have something specialized you are better at it.

I know I say Fate a lot but sometimes, it just works, and WoT is very cinematic.

The new show is decent, but it's nothing outstanding. It's worth the time if you've got nothing else pressing to watch in my opinion.

@auspice This is a very common thing amongst any and all telecommunications companies. The last one I worked for (Cox Communications) flat out lied to it's new hires, claiming it wasn't a sales position, and then demanding sales quota's be met.

@calindra That's fair, I would prefer an Egypt setting myself, so long as it wasn't as white washed as Gods of Egypt was.

@calindra Considering that Greece traded with Egypt a fair bit, and people roamed a lot (Like whole armies of a lot, hello Persians! Hello Alexander! Etc) there's no reason why you couldn't make an Egyptian unless staff were like:

Why set it in a time when the Dragon is around? Maybe in this turn of the wheel, this reflection, the Dragon isn't even a /thing/ yet but it doesn't mean other stuff cannot happen.

Same thing with the Forsaken, they don't have to be loose yet to have darkfriends.
