    • RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))

Why put it during the time of Revan and Malik to begin with?

You have plenty of space to breathe in The Old Republic, it was a huge span of time.

By tying yourself to that period in time you are restricting the story /and/ making huge FC's/NPC's again.

      So you are adding problems.

I would go for a time period some 1000 years or so after The Old Republic (Bioware's MMO). You could create whole new threats, leave the game wide open for whole new heroes (PC's!) and you have complete creative freedom to do whatever you please without upsetting traditionalists.

I don't discuss who I was or was not on here.

The one time I did (Arx) it did not turn out very well for me.

    • RE: Star Wars?

Level based systems are inherently exclusive.

That is why I dislike Saga for MU* and indeed all level based systems in that environment.

I could care less about who is more powerful than who so long as people can participate in things but EVERY Saga game I've seen always comes down to this:

An abundance of plot for high level people, and nothing for low level people.

And low level people can't even really /help/ in anything designed to account for primarily high level people.

Saga would turn me right off. WEG D6 was where it's at for Star Wars for me.

      Level based is just ugh.

    • RE: Travel Times - Enforced?

@faraday It is part of /enforcing/ the travel times though.

Either they are enforced, or they are not, I'd rather see them enforced.

    • RE: Travel Times - Enforced?

Hell I remember back in the day on some WoD games where all the sudden a person would be ambushed, and miraculously people who were all the way across town at the time it happened showed up!

Travel times are important, not only to prevent OOC BS in some cases, but also for a level of immersion depending on the setting.

As for MMO's, they /used/ to have travel time, but there is so many ways around it now it's not even a thing anymore on most games.

      Which is bad.

God damn, I forgot I am a backer on that and need to download it immediately!

      EDIT:

And then I remembered it's not being really really released till the 24th. Dangit. Was all excited for a sec there. Oh well early birthday present!

@firepuff And the Knights of the Old Republic era is so /big/ that even the 'big names' are only a small blip of time during it.

    • RE: A Game of Thrones MUX Discussion

The only C&D letter I recall actually being a thing in MU*'dom was either from Kevin Siembieda cuz he's a fiend about his system not being automated and people not needing the books, and Steve Jackson, cuz, Steve Jackson.

Those were a long time ago though when MU'ing was /much/ bigger.

    • RE: Demon: the Descent

My problem with Demon is that it doesn't tend to lend itself for MU play imho. The whole spy espionage thing is neat, but it makes it very hands on, imho, for staff since every demon probably has their own spy espionage thing going.

    • RE: Coordinates-based Grid

@grapenut One of the things I /really/ wanted to do for a D&D 5e game was to make a web based interface that pulled character sheets from the MUX for adventures. It would make tactical combat so much easier but, would need a lot better web coder than me

    • RE: Star Wars?

@faraday You see it especially big in Star Wars games though. Nobody will ever be Darth Vader except for Darth Vader, or Yoda, or Luke, or Han, etc.

If it's a Star Wars game that is set in the same time period, but, /away/ from the big movie plot, with no FC's etc, then maybe you've got something there.

    • RE: Star Wars?

This is my big problem in Star Wars games, or really any game set on a book series or other popular media that is at the current time.

The big damned heroes are already cast, so what does that make the PC's?

It's a hard thing to do right, and honestly, I've never seen it done right personally.

Not saying it hasn't been done, just I haven't seen it myself.

    • RE: Favorite Minigames

Considering the similarities to early edition MMO's (and even many current ones) to the Diku/Rom method of combat and mob respawning and all of that, it makes a lot of sense. The MMO is definitely very similar to a MUD with a very enhanced graphical interface.

Obviously more complex, due to moving bits and whatnot but in the end... very similar in design just different in scope.
