RE: Heroic Sacrifice
@seraphim73 I've found that there are two types of people when it comes to game length. Those who are willing to cycle characters more often, and those who won't even bother with a shorter term story. There is not a lot of middle ground for those types to meet.
Those who don't mind chargen (or love it, I tend to love it) will probably be okay with a short term game, but, it's a /lot/ of work to put in for a game with a limited lifespan unless you planned from the beginning about how to set up the next phase with all new characters.
Those who hate chargen, or just prefer longer ongoing stories, are going to avoid it like the plague most likely.
So you just have to build to your target audience and make sure there's not a ton of hoops to jump through. I have found on games that have either A) Rollover xp on character death if it is all handled gracefully IC, or B) No hoops to jump through to get back into the game, will typically be more willing to risk it all so to speak.

RE: Valorous Dominion
@rucket That is the exact numbers I put in...
Except they weren't! I was using .96 instead of .93 for some silly reason... probably just a numpad typo.
Bah I am dumb

RE: Valorous Dominion
Tried to connect via the ip address on the wiki, and it stalls out and hangs up.
Dunno if it's down or if it's something else or...

RE: Good TV
@coin Knights of Sidonia was another. There's a fair few foreign stuff that is supposedly: Netflix Original which is not.
Like outside of America, Netflix had the rights to Star Trek: Discovery, and it had Netflix Original tags. Clearly not true.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@apos I like the sound of all of this, I am about to start dumping xp into more social stats but I was really dreading the 1000 military resources to get War as a domain stat, or Propaganda... even though I don't hold any positions that would use them, I still thought my char should have them.

Battletech Backers who filled out their survey can get their key now. The email should be out. So check your email.
Yep I have mine, but it won't download till the 23rd but on the 24th will be able to play immediately! Also counted as pre-order so will get that ShadowHawk lol

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@skew Ohh the way it read I thought I had to +task/work every task I was trying to get done each week.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
ARGH! This explains why my tasks have never popped!

RE: Hello MSBites! Grade your administrators.
@auspice I am still of the opinion that the Advertisement thread should be an initial post by the author and then locked, so the initial poster can edit it but no discussion about it. Put the discussion in other topics.

RE: General Video Game Thread
@ganymede The Shadow Hawk's only redeeming feature is if there is customization (and there is) it can be toolkitted into a very nice mech... by making it more like a wolverine or a griffon
The game also seems pretty balanced around having a shadow hawk to start, so it isn't going to suck all that bad either from what I've seen.
They've done a pretty nice job of making sure stuff is challenging without being stupid hard throughout the storyline.
Also, yeah, not a fan of the ShadowHawk, but you rip off the AC 5, put a large laser in there, rip out the SRM put two medium lasers there, and the rest in heat sinks it's definitely a workable mech.

I'm ambivalent, truly, on the idea of up or down votes, but I think they are calculated to minimize the number of "me too" posts that may crop up.
And I am of the opinion that downvotes would do the same but against negative posts.
Which would we rather see reduced here? Me too support posts, or me too negative posts?
-
RE: Hello MSBites! Grade your administrators.
@ganymede So change it so downvotes don't touch popularity? The whole 'popularity' metric needs to get tossed on it's ear to begin with, it's complete bullshit.
-
RE: Hello MSBites! Grade your administrators.
I actually think the lack of downvotes has increased the amounts of dog piles and negativity.
Maybe it's just my perception, but before, when someone did something I thought was just fucking stupid I could downvote and move on. Anyone could mouse over who downvoted and see that I did and thus didn't like what was said.
I didn't have to post anything to express my displeasure.
Now I do.

RE: Pokemon?
@bobotron There used to be an Angelic Layer mush, which unfortunately, was dead by the time I found it.
I love the idea of Gundam Build Fighter and Angelic Layer and I think it could be done well.
You'd have to put in code and systems to A) Build the Character with an actual sheet and stats. B) Put in crafting code to build the mecha/robots/whatever's, C) Hold Tournaments for people to participate in, or, allow prp tournaments to be done. D) Have something to do /outside/ the tiny robot fighting.
If you can do all of this, then there is a lot of potential for a good game.
I don't know how much draw it would have to the MSB crowd, but, it would be a good game.

RE: MU Things I Love
When you've been in a stupid argument about something stupid, and can step back, and just give a mea culpa and still find great stories with people.

I don't think splitting threads that are going off on long tangents or dominating a conversation is that big a deal. I can only speak for myself but I wouldn't care if something I posted got split into its own thread or whatever.
I can see why it would be seen as a negative, for example:
I am a bitch to someone on a thread I should not be being a raging bitch to. It snowballs, then it gets split into it's own thread on the hog pit.
In a way that is not /disallowing/ the bitchyness, it is just relocating it.
If it was flat out deleted and hard 'STOP IT' was given then it's more enforcement of the rules rather than a gentle 'This does not belong here' type of thing.
