@Tyche Just because you didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't fucking happen.

People wore trench coats in high school depending on fashion and weather needs of the location.

Just because they didn't where you live(d) means /nothing/.

People didn't use spray on tan at my highschool, but I am pretty sure it was used in some!

    • RE: RL Anger

Here's the thing, talking about a thing? Especially a thing that puts us into dark places where there seems no way out at all?

Most people that I've tried to do that with just don't get it. They don't have the issue so they see all these 'outs' and the thing is when you're in that dark place there is no light at the end of the tunnel. It's just more darkness as people trying to be helpful... aren't.

People tend to ignore shit that doesn't affect them directly, which just compounds the issue.

I've never seen this show, because I /can't/ watch some things without being pushed into a darker place. It's why I never watched Law & Order SVU too.

Awareness of an issue is always a good thing though.

My problem is when something that needs to be fixed is turned into 'Entertainment'.

    • RE: Arx: @clues

I've run into situations where I've asked people for information on things, been told we were going to RP to get clues shared and get the character clued in and then...

Nothing happened. Ever. To the point that I ended up never getting clued in.

When I did get a response I was told: I am working on a different plot now.

Ok... thanks for nothing I guess?

@Cobaltasaurus @Coin Sounds like a good way to go to me. On both accounts.

    • RE: #WIDWW pt 2 - ST, Player, or staff?

The problem is that the players expect to win.

They don't really want to be challenged.

They want to be the bad asses.

Which negates the whole 'horror' aspect of the setting.

Which is how we end up with fanged and furry super hero games instead of <insert anything here> of Darkness.

I mean sure some people might like that, but not me. I want there to be risk of player loss. I want there to be bad asses we can't just grab Suzy the Gangrel with horrid claws and swarm form to roll up on and kill. Or whatever.

Those players who take the physical monsters /and/ bitch when they face a threat they can't throw dice at... those are the problems to me.

    • RE: Earning stuff

The only way to make this fair and balanced is to give everyone the same //OPPORTUNITY// to be special. They all don't have to /be/ special, they just need to have the same chances at being able to tell stories that make them special, or be special.

That's when the cries of favoritism go large, and yes, there is also the idea that every PC is special.

It's not one I personally agree with because we're not dealing with Table Top where the PC's are the 'heroes' of the story, they are just a //part// of the story.

The hard part is making sure people understand this, and to come up with a way to make it all function as smoothly as possible.

I FTB all the time. A lot. I also TS a lot, when I am in the mood and my rp partner is too.

FTB is a tool, but ICA = ICC is also not a shield.

There needs to be policies in place that protect people from creepers.

I've also seen policies that are so crazy that they just ban first and never bother asking questions.

It is a hard line to toe.

    • RE: Code Discussion: Ambiance Emits

@faraday I don't disagree with you. I also don't like ambiance emits either, I think they take away from the scene in progress which should be what people are responding to.

My comment was if you're going to have them, which is not my decision to make as I don't have anything to do with the creation of this game, have at least a LOT of them so that they don't repeat.

I don't need every other emit telling me about bike messenger joel riding by the window or whatever 🙂

I would prefer not to have Ambiance emits at all, but if they do exist, have a lot of them and have them easily opted out of.

    • RE: Code Discussion: Ambiance Emits

@faraday It's the same issue as people who play to @time/+time/time code. There's always going to be those who play to different aspects of the game in different ways because an RP'd 10 minute conversation can sometimes take several hours RL.

Time is a fluid thing, so is ambiance. What one person considers polite and the norm (Like waiting a few poses) is not what everyone does.

So my response to that question is the same as almost everything:

      Communicate.

Communication is key to a shared space.

Or just make it easy to opt in and opt out of. It shouldn't be that difficult.

@coin It does look like there is some overlap, like with the air thermokinetics and the water ice seeded. Both deal with changing the temperature of ambient particulates. Air and the water moisture in the air... which amounts to almost the same thing.

@Cobaltasaurus Here's the deal with Ambience Emits... you need a FUCK TON OF THEM.

Otherwise they will repeat ad nauseum and just be annoying as hell.

@shincashay That is nice, I've just been running into issues on a couple of games where there's only so many people public and it makes it hard to keep dragging social RP on.

I am looking forwards to Fallout 76, even though I hate Bethesda faces and hair, there are good modders out there that make the game so much nicer.

    • RE: What Do You Want In A New Game (3-options)?

@cobaltasaurus Magical space ships that fly through magic 'space' to travel between the different D&D 'Worlds'. You can literally fly between Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Etc. Only a few places can't be flown to, Dark Sun (Cuz it's off the elemental planes) and Ravenloft (Cuz it's off the Demi-Plane of Fear).

(ETA) @Runescryer The premise was a single ship, lost in space, as presented in option 3 iirc.
