    • RE: Battletech Tabletops and Mechwarrior Online?

@Jaded I love how it's a reboot back to 3025 and will likely /never/ have Clan invasion.

@Jaded I wanted to get the jacket, but, I ended up being tight on money when it ended and had to reduce my pledge.

She probably knew and expected it, hence, the new book after so very very long. Smart way to try and take care of someone after you're gone.

@Jaded That is true, I kickstarted that. Reminds me I have to replay Hong Kong and go through the new 'content' they released for it.

    • RE: Battletech Tabletops and Mechwarrior Online?

Mechwarrior 4 was a hell of a game. A lot closer to TT than MWO is. The sad thing is that in closed beta the game was really a lot better then they bowed to the CounterStrike CryBabies and got rid of weapon convergence.

EDIT: 'They' being Pirannha games who made MWO not MW4.

    • RE: Battletech Tabletops and Mechwarrior Online?

@BigDaddyAmin I've played the hell out of it since closed beta, and spent hundreds of dollars on it.

It's a fun game sometimes but it's not BattleTech. Just go into it with your eyes open.

    • RE: Battletech Tabletops and Mechwarrior Online?

Mechwarrior Online is /NOT/ remotely battletech. It is a FPS sim that uses giant robots of the same name and vague description but it is /nothing/ like BattleTech tabletop or even MechWarrior RPG.

It's essentially shoot em up robots.

      That's it.

It can be fun I guess, but it takes a lot of time to build up enough money to get solid mechs skilled up and built. You're going to suffer without a unit to play with, and the community warfare is a joke. (Way to many fronts where people can bounce from planet to planet way to easy)

The Clans are getting their asses kicked back to their homeworlds and mech's have all these 'quirks' that Inner Sphere mechs are as strong as Clan mechs are.

      Oh, pin point accuracy.

It's not BattleTech, it's an FPS with a thin coating of BattleMechs'.

    • RE: Anime-Themed MUs

This is kind of a derail but I am really interested in using a system for my super game where I can fully automate all XP spending, which is one reason why I haven't settled on one yet. I've discovered that other than pure wealth economy systems like Dungeons & Dragons, nebulous money statistics (Resources from White Wolf, Fate, even Hero System) are a real pain in the ass. In very little time someone could go from broke to wealthiest person on the planet type stuff... it is an issue.

      Back on topic:

I think with anime themed games the world itself has to be huge, and more expansive than just the player characters. I would think a world like Full Metal Alchemist would work, because the main characters are cool but hardly the most only alchemists on the planet. There are a lot of problems that can be used on the grid and it allows for a wide variety of game play as a setting.

Something like Knights of Sidonia... not so much.

CrackMUX had a high turnover rate too. The game was crazy, but it worked and was fun to me. Ran for a fair little while also.

@Insomnia If the person who sent the chats is banned/deleted then they will stay there permanently until @Glitch or someone else deleted them from the code forever, which is what had to be done for me.

    • RE: Anime-Themed MUs

The problem with an Attack on Titan themed MU is everyone wants to be the special snowflake who can turn into a Titan.

That or they want to be the uber bad ass chick who can kill anyone and anything.

The theme itself is rather bland, and this is true of /most/ actual anime, what hooks us is the characters, not the theme which is why there are so many anime tropes when it comes to characters and why we can pick them out so readily. It also makes them familiar which makes an Anime easy to get into because we have our favorite types of characters and we want to see how those characters make it out in this anime.

But the actual setting? Horrible. Most people are the equivalent to peasants, there's an unbeatable monster out there that is just destroying and killing everyone. So even if everyone was part of the military, it'd be a one hit kill type of system. They get you once, you're dead, which would be crazy high turnover and the real lack of story variety would be... well I don't know.

It's not to me, maybe it's just something I don't see surviving for long. I'm of the opinions there needs to be a plethora of enemies and situations so as to not succumb to burnout/over saturation.

    • RE: Mortal Kombat MUX

Mortal Kombat would be a functional game world, and people would RP the hell out of it because really, what does all the MU*'s in the world have in common?

      Bar RP
Beach/Social RP (Even if there shouldn't be a beach, it's really weird)
      TS
      Conflict/Fights

You could use any number of systems for it, but honestly... something cinematic would be what I'd go for or on the other hand, something utterly and completely crunchy.

      So Hero System, or Fate.

    • RE: How would you run a large scene?

Depends on if it's combat or not. If it's not combat, I generally go with Rule of 3. Three poses after yours, you can go again so long as it's not an action pose, this is pure social because large scenes tend to devolve into circles responding to each other anyways since 10 people rarely have a conversation. It's one person talking, 3 people listening, 3 other people talking about something else, and a pair of people mocking everyone.

For combat scenes I have the five minute rule. Pre-type your actions so that you can declare easy and roll then pose the attempt/effect whatever.

It's still a long thing depending on how many npc's there are and whatnot but that's what I do.

    • RE: PVP Focused Mu's

I had an idea a long time ago to do a battle mush, oWoD (as this was pre nwod), where people could take template characters that were pre-made and just throw them into the world, no holds barred. You'd of course have to change name/description but basically there was a couple of different templates, melee or ranged, different clans, different tribes and auspices... etc etc.

The idea being you didn't earn XP, you just played and RP'd and what happened, happened. When you died, you picked a new template.

@Cobaltasaurus I am amazed you remember even that many places and characters. I do not, for example: We both played on St. Petersburg, but I can't even remember my characters name.

My brain is not as good at recall as it used to be...

      Well done.

    • RE: Dom/Sub imbalance on MUSHes

      @ThatGuyThere said:

I can understand Lithium complaint, but it is one that cannot really be solved. People will always RP things they know little about and do things badly.
I played a mechanic character for years and at times I am sure a real mechanic would grins and the babble my character came up with while talking about cars, I know the basics but was quickly out of my depth if the other person in the scene keep the topic there for long.
I know anything sexual will get more charged then that but it is the same principle. Another example I am a Catholic RL, and i cringe every time I see a PC nun or priest, most are played as cliches though some players have done it in a well balanced manor. I don't think these chars should be banned by any stretch of the imagination but I also know I am not the only one that cringes.
Maybe I am being too charitable in my reading of Lithium's post to be me for the most part, hyperbole aside, she seems to be saying I hate when people do this cause they suck at it.

^^^ This. Exactly this. I wasn't saying to Ban anyone, or attacking anyone personally.

Sorry. Nobodies drunk enough for this mess I accidentally started.

      Peace.
