I was pointing out that while you may be trying to help, plenty of people reach out in that same way trying to be instigators or gossip-gatherers & it's hard in a moment of high-pique to tell the difference.
I'll second this, awareness is good all around.

I'm arguing that if your kid is on a MUSH pretending to be a blood-slut or a hairy lupus homicidal murder machine then your kid isn't an innocent little angel in need of you saving them by you telling them they aren't allowed to do those things.
You're saying if someone plays one of these concepts they're not innocent? I honestly think you've no business throwing shade on anyone's kids in this manor. I thought this started in defense of privacy not saying playing these concepts is wrong?

Fighting evil by moonlight?
@Ganymede @surreality Curse this thing you all call logic!
Opt-in is good too. I'm just uncertain where to bring legitimacy to support the potential victim and/or person too shy.
Personally I've always been able to walk away and 'nope' an idea I didn't like. If I didn't want in the violent mosh pit scene (though most mosh pits as pointed out elsewhere doen't involve elbows and broken noses), I pose my character out of it, let the room have its fun. If someone wanted to do something with my char I didn't like and it was optional, I opt out, if there was an ICC (I broke into the building, the police came to tazer me) I was comfortable FTB with discussion on results.
As staff, I have personally dealt with the 'they did this thing after I asked a few times to not do it and showed my disinterest, but they got me to through coercion and other tactics as noted in this thread and others just the more it settles a few days later, the more squicky it feels', more than once but in recent years (and I tend to have open code still when I do pennmush, there was some code shenanigans involving @locks and such, which made me feel bad about the situation more so than usual).
I do like the selection of subjects option, like the prefs/squicks on most adult places but extended to include general topics of RP that are on/off or need consent. With policy to indicate one player needs consent if they intent to cross a line on someone's no-subject line list. Just, again, the too timid/guild ridden/blamed/etc. to speak up potential victim vs. the coercion and how to help get around those to be more open with a feeling of safe environment.
If there ever is a good system to help, I'll know it when I see it (too soon?).

seriously I was barely in my right mind at the time, you can't go by that. (I am NOT going to go into what was going on, not here, just want to say that I don't mean I was high, as it sounds rather like that!)
Whatever state of mind it was, you made the choice to go there in that mind frame, that's the face you showed them and they can go by that presentation of yourself. You know what it was, maybe try the next game in a better mindset. The Mud Connector ir Top Mud Sites is a good place to start, then add on bboards in games, but based on responding in an angry tone here I'm less inclined to recommend friends games.
I wouldn't spoil Forest Gump by talking about the people he meets during the movie or original Roller Ball with details on how society is controlled or what Jonathan E. does. I wouldn't explain what Zardoz means to anyone who hasn't seen that movie other than to say if they like Sean Connery they should check it out. And these are decades old movies.
I don't think its that hard to make a new thread to talk about a movie, and for anyone to understand that reading a thread risks spoilers. But like in good/new movies where we (or I at least) hope to see something without spoilers that would perk my interest, its not hard to add the spoiler here, just a click away, or start a new thread.
Maybe its a difference in sharing these days. Like I wouldn't go watch the latest Jesus Christ Superstar and try to entice someone with 'OMG you'll be so shocked, they crucify him', but instead I might say 'so and so' did a stellar job on vocals, definitely a must see. Like its a thing, to be the first to notice/realize something and spoil it; spoiler alert, Freddy Kreuger's Glove is in the tool room in evil dead! (broke my own code there, sorry).
I selected other because of the part about moderating and I don't know what repercussions should be, if any, for spoilers.

Ephrath
Ephriam approves of this name (and yes for the billionth time it's spelled i before a on purpose, space nobles aren't using biblical names).
@PuppyBreath the lone deserted highway east of Omaha, not so deserted with all the people trying to get out of the city on weekends ing Loess hills for recreation or wineries. This was a crazy winter, I still use a shovel and got a his five foot pile at the end of the driveway this year.
Republic City in the time just before the 1st book/season with all the corruption and turmoil, with a sort of sandbox setup.
I've not read any reviews, but its not Guillermo so I felt good enough waiting for Netflix on this Hellboy.

traditional MUSH platforms or Evennia that don't have built-in support for both web and async gameplay (or either)
There is/has been a push in the traditional platforms for web-socket functionality. You can but a client on a browser, with JS you can add some buttons for like talking on pub or checking the hangouts. You can also add in a logger of your liking, which can be used asynchronously by all players.

What can I do when nobody is around for public RP? Give me bite-size tasks I can do during downtime.
For me this isn't a seller. Most MU's I've been on have not had NPCs or tasks or mini-games to do when no one else was around; unless one counts the rise of wiki's in the past 15+ years and prettying up the wiki as a minigame. I see this closer to MUD-type play and they do it better. Whether its farming, fishing, trading, econ, quests, mobs, interacting with old-school style 'AI' npcs, whatever. If I want these I'll go there or just get the app that fits my fun for minigame.
If no other players are around I'm probably moving on.
@greenflashlight said in Sensitivity in gaming:
or are you just crafting ridiculous examples for the sake of being dismissive?
I ain't saying is hyperbole, but if I have to explain it ...
No, it sounds like hyperbole or being dismissive.
A better example is, breath as a trigger/squick. If I have part of the scene involving trying to hold breath while swimming, I haven't considered all angles. I don't know if someone nearly drowned or lost a family member to drowning recently. Its not a major part of the scene, but maybe I get into describing how long one has to hold breath and the dangers involved and without knowing, I hit someone's trigger without warning.
Does breath holding need to be added somewhere or where does responsibility lie for acknowledging its a trigger? Up front, so a player can leave, in the middle? Does the player leave or the GM alter after like 2 players have made their roles and entered the secret cave?
***=Spoiler stuff probably***
