Gonna be honest. A Chihuahua holder drinking strawberry fanta drops my drawbridge everytime, being 56 is just insult to injury.

@Roz Fair enough, it was civil, not dogpiling. It was like one sided rhetoric continuing to build on the same side without any rhetorical counterpoints offered. It being insensitive had a fair point, I can sympathize and also see it being insensitive by some assumptions made on behalf of staff in the pile of one sided rhetoric that seemed to be gaining momentum.

The problem with judging characters from the outside is that we often just don't know how deep their layers go. Often we see stereotypes or "the mentally ill one" because we're only seeing one layer. So it's up to staff to really keep an eye on shit like that, not us.

I can't say who is right or wrong; players or staff. That being players wanting to play other circumstance/condition/life choice/whatever other than how they currently live vs staff allowing vs too close to home vs seeing it too much vs bored with it as some element of a concept that must be included to make a character. Can't assume someone looking at said characters are only looking at one layer, they might be, but they may have more depth of view so can't just assume one way or the other. Same with person app'ing such a character, they could be using it as cornerstone 'this is how I'm different' or it could be the worked out the character history and some choices along the path of development lead to that inclusion.

My only thing was that we had a dogpile saying the staff was insensitive without really knowing why they felt too many were showing up too fast. The whole 'ban' part is temporary as far as I know. I don't know the why's of it all, other than we had a number of folks just taking on 'staff is insensitive' while being insensitive that there may be more depth to the decision then was on the surface. I was asking the dogpiling to reel it in a little.

As for PTSD, I was pointing out I'm over how often its used to help define a character, whether as a quirk or part of the defining elements of a character. I'm not going to ban any such players on my games, but I can sympathize with staff (who do this for their own fun as a hobby, not some obligation to let players do creative character development to educate themselves or learn/better understand other people/conditions/etc.).

And like @peasoupling , if eye patches aren't allowed and that's my jam, I'll shuffle over to the next game where I can get my pirate on. It doesn't bother me one way or the other. If there is some staff restriction on something I'm curious about, I don't see it being insensitive to my creative license so much as them trying to keep a handle on theme. I mean, they have nightmares and monsters of some sort and danger, for all I know staff just isn't comfortable killing a group of amputees that couldn't escape the latest monster vision dream thing just cause everyone wanted to play one (and honestly, that doesn't sound fun for me either if I were staff). Its their prerogative.

This is spiralling one sided a little. I mean if we're pondering what if's ... What if someone on staff or one of their loved ones are an amputee?

I'm a vet, I kind of get tired of seeing another ptsd vet apped on games I play. Its like some cool stereotype that everyone wants to try their hand at.

Double ... For what its worth, I'm feeling over the abundance of comic genre and zombie genre and supernatural genre stuff on TV, if this heralds in a few more fantasy series in the end. Then I'm grateful they got in the dragon stuff and some of the magic and the general populace has taken to it in droves, could get a few more things out there I'd like to see in TV series format.

I think in other parts, fans of the books overlooked skipped bits from the first six-seven seasons because they could add some visuals to the collection from reading (or add visuals period for those that don't conceptually visualize from reading) and a hope the end story would make since and/or tie up loose theories (or support the crazy ones some fans developed over the years). So part of the ending 'disappointment' is from seeming like the skipping of certain elements* and wondering how it play out and if cutting it would be better, wrap things up cleaner or not.

      • -more on the Reed family, Bloodraven-greenseer in the roots that passes the torch to bran and former Nights Watch another Targaryen, Lady Snow the zombie, the Nameria Wolf Pack ravaging the south, some of the Arya story, the journey of Sam to Oldtown, Victarion Greyjoy and the other red priest Moqorro, Aegon/Faux Aegon (pretending to be or is the legitimate son of Rheager and whats her name Martell), more of the Dornish families and Highgarden families, and others I'm forgetting in writing this.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the series and having watched it, but its not the books and maybe some of the disappointment is in wondering if GRRM will make it to get more books out, let along complete the series he envisioned. - or wondering what we're really missing and what the answers to nagging questions will be retained from missed plotlines from the books?

I'll still watch D&D Star Wars (not sarcastic, insert honest smiley thing here that doesn't offend anyone).

@Lotherio Let's not be too judgy guys. 🙂 I can see how producers might be burned out after working on the same project for eight years.

Like hell. They're bored and they want to move on. I don't judge them for that. What I judge them for is not giving the series over to people who still give a shit.

This is a weird dichotomy of sorts for me. HBO was willing to pay to extend the series out, its a cash cow (there is a trend to wait until the season ends, pay for HBO for one month to binge watch, then cancel subscriptions just for GoT). Its like they wanted to finish their story their way, to have the final say on their vision (sort of like Cervantes writing Don Quixote II to kill off the character cause others started making derivative works). Its a dichotomy in that it diverges in ways from GRRM's books but they made it so they have a clear finish of their telling of the story.

In good news at least, we can now focus on D&D's next project, the first SW trilogy following Episode 9. Will it be SW:The Redmpetion or SW:These Characters Developments Don't Add Up? Should we take bets now, the trilogy doesn't make theaters and turns into a series on Disney Plus? Will it be hard pressed on heels of Favreau's the Mandalorian series?

What's more important, that this Cole is somehow affiliated with some corporation that is/does tech research including some tech he uses as part of this schtick (resources, gadgets, etc.) or that he's associated with something named 'Halo Corp'?

I can honestly say I know nothing of Cole and Halo Corp, nor do I know much about the Halo video games other than Marvel did do a Halo series, and I know nothing about Halo the DC character.

I imagine, and its just me, they don't want the confusion of Halo from the comics and Halo Corps nor the reformatting of bringing in an third part (not Marvel, or the secondary DC) enterprise that is the third largest in its comic-verse with a value of $3 trillion (Wayne enterprises is guestimated at like $20-$30 billion networth and not even top 100 in the world). If Halo Corps is some big conglomerate/enterprise/corporation, I can see them not wanting to include it because it does require some shift in theme (well, Cole gets in an argument with Bruce, so buys out Wayne Enterprises, or most other FC character's enterprises from Marvel or DC). Its not just adding a business with a name, the big enterprises can change some dynamics.

I think both are just headaches staff wants to avoid?

I concur on Bran being powerful. The not joining with the weirwood roots network like in the books, he doesn't have limits now for all his potential power. I think visually the series would have had a hard time having him rooted up and still chatting with everyone connected to the massive weirwood network under Westeros, but this is one thing I wish they would have kept. I get hate for bringing in Arthurian reference, but this is Merlin's fate as well in later works, imprisoned in a forest/tree. Bran is Merlin, still has a part to play especially as concerns prophecy (he knows the song of ice and fire related to the prince that is promised), but may be written out in the last episode wrap up with too much to conclude in what little time remains.

Oh no, I'm well aware he continually says its inspired by War of the Roses. He usually gets in inspired be War of the Roses and flippantly tacks on 'and other stuff' or 'other fantasies'. Every so often he does get in Arthurian references, sporadically. LIke he's mentioned starting out around Bran, he sees readers comparing him to a young Arthur, so he can surprise them with Jamie chucking him out the window.

He's had a lot of inspiration and influence, and I see Arthurian legend under the surface of the War of the Roses that he says is the main influence; those influence are pretty easy to see on the surface. But the correlatives I see leads me to what I think is gonna happen. I've not had many great surprises yet going off my hunch and most characters live up to the expectations I've had. I still leave my prediction on the tables, the final battle is closer to Storm's End or somewhere betwixt Storm's End and King's Landing and it ends in chaos. I see other correlations as well, such as the Prince That Was Promised (another of his inspirations, TH White, The Once and Future King - and like the Once and Future King, the Prince That Was Promised may never come) , and lets not forget Excalibur/Lightbringer.

Things line up pretty well, even with a few differences. Dorne is Spain in a manor from later portions of history and marriage to the English throne. Ironborn are Vikings, around the sacking of York, the isles west of Scotland there were common winter sites for Vikings to extend their raiding times (and where Amlaib and Ivar may have raided from before establishing Dublin in a manner).

Well, I'm finally getting caught up so I should do a whacky prediction spoiler for the show and maybe the books too.

      ***=Here there be Mythical Spoilers***

      click to show

Okay, so when I first read Game of Thrones (the first book that is), I saw the map and the location of things on it. Its totally England during the time of Arthur. GRR Martin likes history and Arthur. I figure RhaegarTargaryen is Arthur in a manner, doing better than kooks before him. Then the affair early on which lead to all the R+L=J speculation. I bought that pretty quickly, it became basically a stolen/re-imagined telling of Arthur.

Instead of Genuivere doing the 'cheating', its Rhaegar himself, cheating on Elia Martell. Instead of Mordred, we end up with Jon. Jon will probably die (again but for good, unlike the books, there are no red priests left that I recall on GoT series).

They skipped Aegon in the series, the swapped out son of Rhaegar and Elia. Whether true or not is left for the books to let us know. But he holds Storms End, and has ties with the Martells still, again seemingly written out of the series. He holds it with the Golden Company, so all the books our out the windows here.

But, Gendry completes the circle, filling in for Aegon as the holder of Storm's End.

Storm's End is Camlann in Arthur. I imagine the Second Sons show up here (one of the other mercenary groups, one of Daeny's lovers is in charge of them), after the nonsense around King's Landing, they group. Second Sons and Golden Company make up more of the end fighting force.

Jon dies, Daeny probably dies, Cersei dies, the remaining Starks live but they have no interest in King's Landing, the north become an independent Kingdom again and, like after the fall of Arthur, the remaining seven kingdoms splinter and revert to 'darker' and less 'chivalorous' times. The 'glory' of Westeros dies with the last of its greatest hopes (whoever you like in the current books/tv series that dies in the final battle).

Gendry might become a parcel of authority after that battle, but understood he can't keep shit together. Or in the books its Aegon (impostor or not planted by Varys). They might bring in some of the forgotten realms (families of Dorne and Highgarden) to help with the battle of Camlann/Storm's End.

Or ... it just a big CGI feast over the last few episodes with all kinds of crazy happening and someone actually wins the iron throne.
