@seraphim73 Suggested reading is good we'll get a few more front page links.

Anyone offering a template please use wikidots active/dynamic template not just fancy include. Down the road we can use template info to organise and sort player lists. Like the info on families page, we can sort and organize by things like political affiliation if we want, we can't pull include info into indexes like that.

@shincashay That would definitely be allowed, I need to still get into css again and fix links and such to be legible for some people, organization help would be good.

I know I have history scattered in a few areas, I don't want to overwhelm someone casually reading but clearly it needs help. We could put up a dirty history page with the ~150 points scattered around too but that could make it worse?

I'm leaning into a character. I'm debating between joining an established House, or picking up Zanetti as weapon manufacturers (cannon, swords, gunpowder, etc) provided they're in theme.

But the A sisters also seem hella fun. Torn!

The A sisters are a thing for sure, hella or scary fun, not sure yet but ...

Its hit or miss on cannon and gunpowder - smaller canons are starting to see use, the first major battle they are noted for their use is about a decade or two out. Firearms (shoulder canons 🙂 ) will be recorded in Russia soon against an upcoming mongol invasion in a few decades.

Weapons are good, I'd like to preserve the Merc companies and their generic history - they get all war art/strategy and keep using heavy cavalry while other nations over the next century develop firearms until the Condottieri are so old school, the horses fall pray to halberds and muskets. While not accurate to the time so much, the battle in Borgias where they're stunned by cannons in 1495 is sort of a nod to this (they all know about cannons, some of the Visconti of Milan write about them in mid 14th-century and their effectiveness on a battlefield).

That said, what could be a good RP hook/concept is that the family is starting to research this gunpowder stuff like so many others to go from canon to firearm and such. The other nobles might not like the occasional explosions from House Zanetti, but they'll have to just get over it by the Paragons.

      Do you need any turtles?

I have a hankering for re-making the Turtle, with 27% more bitterness.

There is a distinct lack of turtles despite the rich theme on them. I think we all have a hankering for a turtle, especially a more bitter one.

@lotherio So for a foreign noble savage type of concept, it'd have to be someone married in at his point I take it, since you have to pick a house?

You don't have to be in a house, sorry if that seemed like a requirement. We have one married in from another land and someone with a merc company. We do have a commoner in the works too. But another noble could certainly be in town without marriage. From seeking alliances with Matoran houses, to asylum from troubles back home and anything in between.

I'm sorry, that's my fault for not making the focus of houses readily visible on the wiki ('+houses' in game lists shows the Heads and Commodity for folks looking to join houses, they can pick one interesting and know who to contact without hitting up the wiki). We only defined loosely the basic commodity they focus on. Heads can further focus or emphasize what that is for them, as our commodities are very broad stroke. Such as Nicolo of Albrici gains luxury items (hopefully) as a resource to build/trade/etc. with, but Nicolo specified this as banking. Gaspari could (I don't think Cosimo has specified yet) focus on exotic trade imports or some other area of luxury. We didn't want to set coats of arms and mottos for the houses, folks seemed to enjoy having that control on Realms. We just have loose history, basic inclination of politics/religion and the commodity set for the houses.

This is looking really, really cool. I love the complexity of the international politics and the atmosphere.

I found a really cool page on the wiki that talked about laws and history and all of that, but then I lost it and couldn't find it again. A front page list of all the important world intro pages might be helpful!

We can pull and place them anywhere by theme category, would theme files on the home page be good or a link to the theme page that lists them already?

Having risen in influence and power, the city of Matora is readily focused on its own affairs. The Great Houses of the city, with trade empires stretching to the corners of the world, have a greater interest in valor and vengeance. Disputes and conflict between the families is a primary focus while neighboring city-states are on the rise. The wealth of the city has drawn the eyes of foreign interests wanting their own share.

While the families utilize small personal armies to conduct their wars of personal vindication with each other, they have relatively small armies to defend their cities. Here the companies of mercenary warriors known as the Ventura have played a vital role. Following years of conquest in foreign lands, mercenaries returning form companies for hire, waging the wars between cities that the families cannot. The families can, however, supply the coin to fuel this constant struggle for power in the city-states while growing their personal empires.

      This is Valorous Dominion

Valorous Dominion is an online role-playing experience in an alternative setting based roughly on the northern Italian city-states in the proto-renaissance period; roughly the mid 14th Century. We are a mix of the King Arthur Pendragon RPG for characters and our own system for house management and growth.

If you're over the same things rehashed, Netflix has a bunch of subtitled Turkish period pieces. I recommend Magnificent Century, it pulled me in oddly. Start there you'll get other recommendations.

@ganymede FS3 even pre-Ares is slick. Thanks to Daithi, we got to run turtles vs wall, two turtles vs a section of wall set up using FS3 vehicle. We did the wall defense vehicle battle with lots of hps and a sally forth battle in 3-4 hours and it included minor pauses to try and keep medics helping. I enjoy FS3 just for combat, I should have logged the test runs of airships vs naval ships battles while balancing then for the steampunk place we attempted.

@faraday Real quick - @ixokai has created a scene/logger which includes repose and wiki formatting and setting details for both PennMUSH and RhostMUSH. The RhostMUSH version is capable of uploading directly to Wiki. Its available here in this forum, don't know if its anywhere else (http://musoapbox.net/topic/1476/loggers).

    • RE: Coming, sooner or later: Valorous Dominion

One of the last things we're working out is Valor. Valor replaces glory for Valorous Dominion; simply because Glory has a large tie to chivalry. Valor is very similar, fame and reputation, status and standing, gossip in the shadows and glory on the lute of musicians. But, it's not really chivalrous. Vendetta is a large part of daily life for the nobility, and thus courage to act and defend honor is a sign of valor. Likewise, it is reputation. Doesn't have to come from good deeds; best example I can think of is Cersei Lannister's walk of shame. It may have been humiliating, but her courage to do it or her gumption to do it in spite of everything might have bolstered her reputation from the event.

House management and Vindicti are systems in place. One of the uses of house commodities is to hold social events, sporting events, tournaments and the like. Not only is this a way to impress/turn the ear of NPCs of influence, it is a way to increase house reputation. We are focusing less on combat (it's there) as a means to gain Valor, this concept is similar to hosting tournaments in Pendragon. The net 'glory' is instead awarded to the house as reputation. Individuals that attend the party gain 1/10th that reputation as personal valor. It will mirror the levels of glory for tournaments, with a progression for importance of the event; one can raise the level by attracting influential/famous NPCs to the event. The easiest way to get an NPC to show up is spending of house or personal reputation to draw them to the gathering, increasing the reputation for the house to host such notable individuals and, thereby, increasing personal valor for being in attendance at prestigious events. We're hoping a lot of the drive to gain and earn valor is player driven.

Another implementation post-opening we are planning is a quirk/hook/goal system. We're not requiring any of these for characters, but those wishing to add them and play them out will be rewarded. Our focus in the system is on houses, anything we don't see is something we won't know about. Using this system will prevent reliance on +requests to earn Valor, but like all systems it will take effort and this will require logging on some level to supply to the system as proof of goals. Rather than define levels of goal/quirk/hook involvement, it will be by the month and the amount of scenes/etc in which the goal is worked on or the hooks played out. No matter how many listed, there will be a limit of Valor awarded per month.

All that said, we are settling on an opening of Monday (23rd). It's a full opening and we're sure there are plenty of things missed or overlooked. It will come with changes, code fixes, theme clarifications and anything in between. Once we open it will be a persistent setting for the characters developing. We could call it alpha, but even if anything needs fixed changed, the characters, there will be little cosmetic difference as the story persists.
