    • Fallout/Wasteland existing code/snippets.

I found a host for my Fallout/Wasteland game set in South America in a overgrown 'living' wasteland. I've been perusing code other people have developed (cause I'm a amateur) and I see really only one possible code UGS which appears to focus around savage world (which could work) I was hoping to incorporate SPECIAL or the Wasteland system.

Has someone already done work on a Fallout or Wasteland MU with code available? What are my other options aside from UGS?

Here's my actual view. CG in my view is such a integral part of Mush's. Muds can get away with shitty CG, all you're usually doing is powerstatting anyways. But with Mush's and Moo's, you're developing a character whose going to help tell stories. If you're not going to put in the work to develop a character, then how can I believe you're going to put in the work to tell a story with me? Even if you grab a pre-made character to test it out, if you have the option to keep it, well you're still not putting in any effort in the end. You're just moving a puppet instead of playing a person.

@Bobotron Right, it works well in Larping, because often people will drag their friends along, or people will come at the last moment or the ST/Ref wants people to get a feel for the game before they come to a chargen meeting.

One of my best larping experiences was going to a WoD larp for the first time and getting pre-generated characters. Golcanda was coming, vampires had made themselves known and I was a mortal camera man and my best friend was a reporter. I kept pushing him and egging him to ask and say more and more dangerous and awkward things to 'get the shot'.

@Sunny Looking for bias confirmation. People like when people agree and if you think you're right about something you like to hear other people say the same.

Yeah but a clickable, walkthrough type chargen with tabs made it super easy and besides I don't have the money to drop on a book and scrolling through a PDF is tiresome. Im so lazy...

Mage breaks my head. And with Subnet gone there's no easily organized resource to look at...

I might still take a peak though.

      There's also a Firefly one I've been meaning to look at. That's a space western...so it's close?

    • RE: Mud Hosting, for 0 budget?

Development wise I could definitely use my computer, but if I wanted to host or allow builders or other coders to help if they wish it wouldn't work. I don't have a static IP, my computer isn't on all the time and the ports are not changeable by me. I do see some other options and there's ixokai's comment to look for. So, we'll see.

My next question is, has anyone created a frame for a fallout game yet with the code available to build off?

You're going to do what you want to do and that's fine. But because this is a forum, I feel ok with sharing my opinion.

Like I said before, the reason this sorta works on other games (I've never heard of WoD games having FC's, so not sure how that applies here), is those games have such a momentous cast of possible FC's. With such a limited pool here, it just seems both silly and asking for ego-driven cliques.

The interview process doesn't change my opinion. This is the internet not only that, but these are games where people regularly pretend to be something their not constantly. If I can successfully pretend to be both the opposite gender, opposite sexual orientation and someone whose personality is in direct conflict with my own, why wouldn't I be able to convince you that I'm awesome, even though what I really want is the shiny badge of playing Varric or whomever else. If I get to play a FC, I'm automatically assumed by people who are familiar with the games to be important, or to be respected IC. It gives me a edge, regardless of where the stories go. I'll have a in, I won't have to work to develop a character to MAKE them important, I won't have to do the work to develop a backstory, or figure out my place in the world unlike everyone else who didn't get a chance early on to snatch up one of the coveted FC positions. People who come later after all the FC's are required to actually do the work, to make a effort that the people who just take an existing character didn't have to do.

Life might not be fair, but we like when things are fair and can limit unfairness by choosing not to partake in something, and that doesn't seem fair. Again, the games that succeed with FC are the ones like Transformers and Marvel. With countless FC's to choose from. There just isn't a pool here big enough.

Another issue is people on mushes are notorious for vanishing. With FC's that creates an issue where, when a new person takes over, personalities change, stories are forgotten (or badly continued) and new OOC personality conflicts might occur when character's players who previously got along no-longer get along. FC's in general, usually turn out bad.

It's been a while since I played, but the stories are based around specific characters and all the other high powered non-evil characters are kind of in disarray. There's very few wardens. So if this is set during a specific time, with specific wardens and other non-evil FC...doesn't that limit the potential of people who might not want to play FC. And how can you be sure the people you pick for FC (there's a certain mindset to picking to play a FC, You want to be central, that's why you pick) won't try to force themselves as the center of the story, because as a FC that's what you're whole existence is for. Especially in a series with limited FC like this. It isn't like Marvel where FC's can include 100 different people.

    • Mud Hosting, for 0 budget?

A while ago, going on a year +, I signed up for Freemudhost, despite numerous attempts to contact, I received no reply. I'm disabled, with 0 available income, so even the 4.50 over at Genesis Mud is too much. Now, I'm not ASKING for a free host. I'm just seeing if there is one available out there aside from Free Mud Host.

I'd like to work on building a Fallout/Wasteland themed mush set in the overgrown 'wasteland' of Brazil, one of the few places left on earth lush with life, though, no more safer or inviting than the deserts above the equator.

      Danke.

There's not much touching on the racism here, though speciesm is more accurate. Color, gender, sexual orientation doesn't matter in this world. But your species does. Unless your special enough to have gone through the change into a elf, your mistrusted and you probably live in squalor. Woe be to you if your one of the deformed races.

So yeah, while you're a great big Ork with dermal plating and a rocket launcher. You're also not welcome anywhere except the slums. The POPO will watch you more carefully, you can't even get into the rich areas through normal means, you can't get the jobs others can, you're sub-human. You're basically an animal to most.
