I've got a playlist around here somewhere, but I'm Aureth and Tikva. I used to be Pietro but I killed him.

RE: Your Opinions of These Games
@auspice I'm glad to hear that F&L is being better towards Vampire newbies than it was when I tried it.

It's a little hazier when we're in dependency law. It's a civil case that they are appointed counsel to protect their constitutional rights to parent. I think TECHNICALLY I can override him re telephonic testimony but it's a little hard to manage a case for a client who won't stop screaming about his confrontation rights and how everything is illegal and unjustified literally every time you call him.
Peeve: People who think the Confrontation Clause applies to non-criminal adjudications.
Bless you for handling this shit, though. I'd be bad at it.
Yeah, there's a reason turnover on the contract is high even though it's a fair amount of money. You lose a lot because the facts are always awful and there's a lot of playing social worker / unqualified therapist. On the other hand, somebody's gotta do it and they pay me.

RE: SunnyJ's Anti-Sexual Harassment Guide
@kanye-qwest I actually have never really gotten a lot of it either and I am neither of those things. Some of it is because I spent most of my RP career playing on games that were predominantly female and staffed by, in majority, women. I think some of it is because I play male characters a lot, but I don't really know. I think my current female alt is cutie patootie but she doesn't get a lot of bullshit either.
I'm not complaining but I think it's just one of those luck of the draw things.
That said, it happens to women in my vicinity and I rise up with Cerberus-like hackles so maybe that has been witnessed?

RE: What do you eat?
I love basically all food. I try to eat locally or sustainably sourced meat, fish, and produce when I can and am super impressed with some of the food science that goes into meat and sugar substitutes lately. Eating healthy is a struggle. I have health issues surrounding sugar and carbs that are a constant, CONSTANT battle. I respect people who have the discipline to do more limited diets but I just... I cannot. I'm sorry.

RE: Reasons why you quit a game...
@darinelle I'm sitting here in court right now with a personal box of kleenex.

RE: Accounting for gender imbalances
@Rinel I do all my criminal work that isn't government contracted on flat fee. That way I'm eating the risk of everything going pearshaped and taking all my time rather than subjecting my clients -- who are almost always low income -- to financial pressure to settle their constitutional rights.
I calculate my flat fees based on a.) other fees I hear about in my jurisdiction and b.) a time estimate of how many hours a case will cost me times my billable rate, which I keep comparable to other attorneys in my area.
It works for me as a solo. YMMV, I guess.
Now back to the not-derailed part of this conversation, sorry.

@deviante Unot! But the owl was clearly the best part.

RE: General Video Game Thread
So I've been playing MLB The Show 17 for the last several weeks. It is BIZARRELY soothing to wind down with. I've never been a sports game person in my life. I'm really enjoying it. I also enjoy the character designer and its sliders for hips and glutes.

RE: RL Anger
@Ganymede Yeah, I've offered to do that for friends loads of times, too. I think I've been taken up on it like ... once? We used to charge a $100 flat rate for an "angry letter" or a "shitgram" at my first job.

RE: Why don't we have a general board game thread anyway?
@Sunny It's a great game! We're gonna buy the expansion soon for our group.

RE: Regarding administration on MSB
Right, but if you're GOING to use it in an obviously sarcastic way in one thread, it poisons future uses of it and makes them less clear by its very nature. Like, we're just talking about the factual history of what has happened here, not hyperbole.

RE: Celebrities that are Dead To Us
@ganymede Oh, no, I totally agree with that. It's still disheartening but it's not the same ball park.

RE: General Video Game Thread
@Auspice Yeah the money problem is real. The story is still perfectly sweet if you don't shell out for the extra content but ... BUT.

RE: Regarding administration on MSB
@thenomain there's a difference between thinking that a staffer has made a mistake (or multiple mistakes) and finding them untrustworthy or unethical. Is that really the question here?
