RE: There's Nothing to Do Here
I am of the mindset that 'nothing to do' is more on the player than staff.
I largely agree, but I'm also of the mindset that staff has to get out of the way of players playing.
If the staff wish to micromanage the theme of the stories, and do more than setting maintenance, then they have to be the ones driving the plots and doing the heavy lifting, and that means more than just running a few scenes every 2 months for faction/sphere heads, that means running scenes for every player who is interested in taking part.
If they don't wish to actively micromanage everything, and allow players to take the initiative, then they really have to be fairly hands off and maintain the sandbox. Respond to rules queries, tally up rewards for submitted quests and maybe dig a room or two on the grid when needed.

RE: ROGUE: It is coming...
I'm pretty sure Fantom's Mountain Time. I'm not certain about the others, I'm just pitching in when I can to help with some grid stuff.

RE: ROGUE: It is coming...
I think builders are needed, Fantom's looking for a giant grid and my freetime's been eaten up lately. But now that my parents are all moved into their new place, I hope to finish Tatooine soon.

RE: Good TV
@Arkandel I quite enjoy Turn, season 3 should be wrapping pretty soon.

RE: RL Anger
@Ganymede I had a Lady MacBeth episode last night and went to town with the exfoliating cloth, things are looking much better.

RE: RL Anger
@Ganymede My doctor told me the opposite of this, stay barefoot, to keep them as dry as possible and that putting lotion on them insulates the fungus from drying out. They aren't cracked at all, it's been so hot and humid here lately.
Ugh.

RE: RL Anger
Athlete's foot that won't go away. FFS, doctors, stop giving me this 1% stuff, bump it up to 50.
I wonder if I flay myself if it will heal faster?
The joys of working out somewhere with a pool, and apparently no mops.

RE: Do you believe in paranormal things?
I used to suffer from fairly regular sleep paralysis, and as such had quite a firm belief in ghosts, as I'd wake up in the middle of the night and see people standing at the foot of my bed watching me sleep.
This got worse after we bought a house from a widow, and I was sleeping in the room hubby died in.
That was all before I learned that this was a very common hallucination that people who suffered from sleep paralysis suffered from, and the one rewiring my vcr every night was probably my meth head roomate and not an irritated ghost sick of us watching Kindergarden Kop every day.
So I got over it. Until I moved into my current apartment a week after seeing Paranormal Activity. It's the first time I've lived with hot water heating and I didn't sleep for about 3 months from all the little noises going on.
Now I rock white noise, ear plugs and a sleep mask and can sleep through even the most paranormal of infestations. Fuck you, ghosts!
I don't believe in them these days, but I try to, it makes scary movies more fun.

RE: Can RP be art?
It's as artful as groups of friends getting together to jam with instruments. I mean, the bar is pretty low for what can be thought of as art these days. Artist is essentially a meaningless word these days the idea's been diluted so much.

RE: ROGUE: It is coming...
@Fantom Specializations might be useful in table top, but on a mush, they're kind of a pointless xp tax. Their only real use in a mush setting would be to finally get that 10D in xwing instead of paying 3x the xp for piloting. If that makes sense.

RE: Better Places Code
I'm thinking something like this.
You could have the tables be an object. When you sit at a table, you enter the object and are given the following commands:
Observe: toggles lets you see poses away from your table, that are emitted to the room outside the object. If you don't want to pay attention to outside stuff, you toggle it off and you only see your table.
Quiet: toggles you quiet so your poses only go to your table and obeserving or people not at the table people can't listen in.
When people pose at their table, it emits to the room unless they're being specifically quiet. If people are seated elsewhere and are set !observe they don't see the spam.
Or something like that, I'm not a programmer.

RE: RL Anger
This is why I think every professional website should have at least 3 themes. Bright white ones for normals, dark, muted ones for defectives like me, and some for colour blind people.

RE: Cultural differences between MUDs and MUSHes
I am referring to people who have told me before "No, you can't be in here at all," when they are RPing in a public room. It's incredibly rare, but it has happened.
Oh man, this happened to me on a battlestar mush before. I was rping with someone, doing some guard duty when a mechanic ran over and flipped out because we were being distracting, which was odd because they were just idling IIRC. We tried to tell them to relax but the gasket was so blown they had a friend(I'm hoping it was a friend and not that player) make up an alt superior officer and have the new alt explicitly order us to never go to the launch bay ever again. The alt superior officer was then never seen again.

RE: RL Anger
@Arkandel for me it's because bright lights can trigger migraines for me and having a big bright white screen glaring angrily at me will do it reliably enough that I have my screen brightness/contrasts turned down so much I can barely see my mouse pointer in some programs. Granted, it's usually not just the light alone, I often need to be hungry and have some stinky jerk with too much perfume nearby, but yeah. White backgrounds are awful.

RE: Good TV
I really enjoyed the pilot, it hit most of the sweet spots for me, and seemed to have that goofy fun vibe that made True Blood fun in the first season. Of course, watching it with my parents was extra fun, my mom hates that sort of stuff.

can nestle into any faction in cool ways, too: mercenaries, corporation, butt cartels, the Resistance...
We got only the finest butts in our cartel, EVERY DAY IS LEG DAY!

RE: Changes to The Hog Pit
@Arkandel said in Changes to The Hog Pit:
@EmmahSue There's three of you. If you didn't do it, one of them did.
- Arkandel, internet detective and logician.
NEXT WEEK ON ARKANDEL: INTERNET DETECTIVE.
Ah, I see you've mistyped yahoo.com, the internet isn't broken after all!
