@Arkandel Are you sure you didn't walk into a Just For Laughs setup?

Zombie Army Triology. Caught it on sale yesterday and it's so much fun. The only thing better than shooting nazis is shooting nazi zombies!

RE: What do RPGs *never* handle in mu*'s? What *should* they handle?posted in Mildly Constructive
I think having social hit points might be a thing to think about. I /think/ one of the Game of Thrones games did it this way, and I'm pretty sure Savage Worlds has a mechanic for it as well, where you need 3 raises over a scene in order to convince important NPCs to do things you want them to.
In order to convince some person to do something that they might not wish to do, you have to wear them down with arguments, and convince them over an encounter and nag them till they take out the trash.
When people see their social hit points are running low, and they really don't want to do something, their character would be uncomfortable enough that they'd leave the situation, or change things up like start a physical fight. Or you know, go to their room and turn up the stereo so they can write goth poetry in peace.
This would help fix the one role to turn people into a sock puppet thing, I think. If someone starts sleazing on you, and you don't like it, it gives you the chance to leave, slap them or straight up tell them to fuck off.

this help alleviate the 20 year old who can out-politic Machiavelli while going toe-to-toe with Brock Lesner.
You mean you don't like teenaged admirals? You MONSTER!

In my imagined Savage Worlds mush, I'd have people able to give out a couple bennies a week, divided by how many +noms they have. If my experience with Shadowrun has taught me anything, it's that banked bennies/karma is more important than phat stats.
Actual Xp would be given out for adventuring and stuff.

@Lithium As far as I can tell, the most recent version has the deck for initiative. I was just thumbing through my deadlands book, and they have a cool dueling system that works off of a game of texas holdem. I think that would be fantastic for a samurai game as well.
@Volund I was working through code academy for python to try and get a grasp on Evennia, but kind of petered out a couple months ago when the academy got glitchy and would keep saying I had things wrong, when they were correct according to the help forums.

@Lithium Savage Worlds Rifts kickstarter just started up:

I've been trying to learn how to code for the last few months on and off in sweaty anticipation, but can't find the time to be consistent with my learning.

A while back, I was reading a paper about trading card games, and one of the ones covered was the Highlander game. It actually sounded like a solid game, cards for different moves and all that jazz. The person being studied was a bit obsessive, and started taking kendo lessons IIRC.

@The_Supremes How do you keep track of this stuff? Do you have a staff spreadsheet somewhere?
I was thinking some sort of Big Bad Daytimer might be a fun tool to have for situations like this.

So GoT is back.
How about that Mellissandre, huh?
(And how flat is the Dorne story? I hated it last season, I still hate it now.)
I have a secret hope that they did that just so they can quickly write all things Dorne out of the show by killing the people who matter.
But I know they did it because the writers love their version of the sand snakes for some reason.

I usually start with a +where and see if anybody's on grid. I'll usually not try with the OOC loungers who chat on pub and idle all day long, I've only rarely had success coaxing that crowd into RP, and I've found they tend to be more demanding and usually provide less effort.
If I find someone on grid who isn't idling in a private room, I'll poke them to see if they're into a scene and then swing by to RP.
If nobody's about, I'll go work on my playthrough of Mass Effect.

RE: Universal Basic Incomeposted in Tastes Less Game'y
It's a fantastic idea. As someone who likes going to work, the thing I've usually hated about going to work was working with people:
- Mailing it in and taking up space so they could pay their rent.
- Coming in still high/drunk/whatever, making the workplace dangerous
- People just being dicks to work with.
If we could get those people out of the workplace, that alone would be worth the headaches associated with implementing this sort of program, with the added benefit of helping people out.
