    • RE: Legends of the Old Republic - In Progress Star Wars Game

@Auspice said in Legends of the Old Republic - In Progress Star Wars Game:

You'd have players who would play realistically at first....but in the face of those who are all powerful and impossible to defeat, they'd 'power up' to be on a level. On a comic game where FCs are practically gods already this is more manageable (and full traits systems do put in some limitations), but on a SW game where the uberpowerful should be rare? Ehhh.

I feel like players would just have rosters of one or two dimensional characters that they use in this sort of game. I know I'd just go into fights with yet another new rebel soldier who's going to die tragically for the cause, I wouldn't bother having a main, I'd just be concerned with the current scene in a game without sheets or rolls.

That can be good or bad depending on mood, I was kind of excited for a savage worlds star wars, I think there's a lot of fun to be had with that, especially if the Deadlands Duel rules were incorporated for gunfights and lightsaber fights. You could flavour it to sabaac instead of poker or something.

@Sockmonkey If they re-edit it to be the comedy it was clearly meant to be, it would rank higher for most people, I'm sure.

Yeah, the witcher is awesome. Watching superman sexy his way through monsters is a delight, and they're really making a good horror movie out of many of the episodes.

SW:ROS direly needed subtle dice noises added to the musical scores. I think if they went all in with the random encounter theme, it could easily be my favourite star wars movie yet.

@Wizz Burn Gorman is so good in this season. The perfect mix of Karl Tanner and Major Hewlett.

Man, I want to binge drink so hard I forget I watched season 4 just so I can watch it again for the first time again.

They were at Austin Film Festival this past weekend and had a talk.
In this talk, they basically just joked around the entire time about 'lol we had no idea what we were doing the entire time! we don't even know why they gave us a show to begin with, guys!'

I wonder if in their minds they saw the whole scene as humble-bragging and trying to do a whole imposter syndrome thing that gets turned around when the moderator at the talk fawns over them telling them they're actually brilliant. And everyone cheers and carries them out of the festival on their shoulders.

    • RE: The ethics of IC romance, TS, etc

With the nature of mushes being what they are, I think it's reasonable to expect every relationship being poly unless it's explicitly exclusive. I've had a few fun romances over the years, but the fun ones were always with the idea that if one of the players disappears for a few weeks without warning, it's A-OK to romance someone else.

Whenever I've had exclusive relationships, it's always been a dumpster fire when my character reacts ICly to having their SO in the middle of a purple pose when they show up home. Like, if you want to rp successfully sneaking around cheating on an oblivious partner, go to an OOC stage or use pages or something, don't use our home.

Started Carnival Row, finally.. I don't think I'm going to make it, though. Does it get better? The first two episodes were quite the slog to get through. I kept having to rewind because of random naps that happened. On paper it's everything I want in a show, but it's so slooooow

    • RE: Worst Games

Probably War of the Roses. It was supposed to be a successor to Mount & Blade Warband. It looked pretty, but the combat was trash, and the spawning mechanic was god awful, with people teleporting in on teammates.

Right after that, Star Wars Battlefront. Gosh, it was pretty, but the gameplay was awful. Spawns were all extremely campy. That, and those stupid perks that EA always puts into their FPS games. I hear SW Battlefront 2 was better, but I just can't even.

@Paradox said in Space Sim w/Economy:

So let me ask, what are people really interested in:

      1. The time sink of cruising from Point A to Point B to kill time

      2. Something to do BESIDES RP that requires some planning/scheming to try to maximize benefits.

I guess why I'm asking this, is because if it's #2, you don't really need an 'advanced space system' to accomplish that, you just need a clever mini-game to do it.

The time sink of cruising from A to B is terrible. Space systems where you have to spam your own screen every few seconds are the worst. I think ideally, space would just be a set of rooms that you can move your ship through. Maybe ships have a set number of rooms they can do per fuel tank? I dunno, but I hate most of the space systems out there already that aren't as easy as moving your bit to another room.

@Paradox said in Whatever Happened To Star Wars MU*s?:

FFG is a great system, if you have a strong GM that can quickly address complications and boons as they arise OR you have a wide set of viable options for people to choose from.

Yeah, this system is very dependent on having a caffeinated GM and creative engaged players.

I used to run their warhammer game for my tabletop group, and when it was just me and two of my more invested players, it was probably the some of the most fun RPG sessions I've ever played. When the rest of the group joined it got bogged down--being on the ball for creative complications and boons is more difficult for five players than it is for two especially when some of the players might not be as all in as some of the others.

@Killer-Klown said in Whatever Happened To Star Wars MU*s?:

The problem with that system, as far as Jedi are concerned, is that there was no real cost to be Force Sensitive; you decided if you were or not, and that was that. There was no point or stat cost

There was, it was a huge cost, each force skill cost 1 attribute die in character generation. Many mushes house ruled this away, and it broke the games, especially with the 1nom=1cp formula that many went with. Many mushes also house rule away multi action penalties, which really gums up the system. If you chose to become force sensitive later on, it cost 20cp to get one die in a single skill, which is harsh, because 1die really really sucks and without an NPC teacher, raising force skills costs double what normal skills cost.

I've run WEG on tabletop for a long time, and choosing to be force sensitive was hamstringing your character unless a particular campaign went very long or you went monty hall with character points, but even then, the mundane characters would be absolutely stellar by the time the jedi got up to speed.

Succession is awesome and I loved Euphoria. Zendaya's acting was heart breaking.

Succession is FUCKING BANANAS and I love it. I was turned off by the 'family drama about rich people' concept that felt really overdone but then I realized it was well-acted and darkly funny and 150% insane, so I will ride with this.

I started it on this recommendation, I agree, wealth porn is overdone, but this show's pretty funny. It's like a dryer Arrested Development.
