Anything to do with invisible children that have that terrifying giggle. Toystores, daycares, playgrounds, that sort of thing.

Every time a PC enters a room with a television or radio, it goes to snow. If they concentrate really hard, the PC and only the PC and hear a distorted voice in the interference.

The PC's bellybutton is now a portal to another dimension. A dimension of lint and insects.

    • RE: How did you discover text-based gaming?

Back in university, around 96-98ish, after all my high school friends scattered and I didn't have a table top game anymore, one of my pals who was taking compsci introduced me to mushing on Minos Cluster. I was a big fan of BBS door games like Operation Overkill, Trade wars and Nethack (Not normally a door game, but another friend hosted a multiplayer version on his BBS). It was slow for me to get into it--starting out as a neurotic little bothan might have been a poor choice, also, I started when it felt like most people were leaving that mush, but I had good times enough to start investigating other games and eventually it became a regular hobby.

Once I found AD&D I dropped basic that instant and never looked back, unless it was to check out some Larry Elmore artwork. AD&D is okay, I like it mostly because magic felt magical--it was rare and powerful and difficult to progress, but I'd much rather do gurps, savage worlds or runequest these days.

@Lithium Yeah, my first character was a wizard, but he died screaming to giant beetles because held actions aren't a thing.

My current character is a fighter with a 3 constitution because fuck it, other classes take too long to roll up when they're just going to die in one encounter.

Ugh, my Table top DM seems to have fallen in love with Labrythn Lord, citing a preference the old school experience... that went out of style 5 years before he was born.

I tried to convince him that 3d6 down the line, rolling for level 1 HP was lame and wouldn't make for any sort of campaign, but he was all jazzed to do it.

We set up ambushes and plan out our method of attack and he's like, 'Fuck it, roll initiative! Oh, the giant beetles hit for 9 damage, you die! HAHAHAhaha isn't this fun?!'

And he wants us to take his 'campaign' seriously, getting upset when we decide to leave the dungeon where harpies that hit for 4x our HP with each of their 3 attacks live, and start planning on killing the merchant who sells things for 2x list price after he tells us we get xp for GP found and much less than xp for killing shit.

I'm don't think I'll ever be drunk enough for this.

The one who was recently banned (yeah, Cirno as mentioned below) started up a new forum meant to be a counter to this place. I peeked in and it's about what you'd expect from him, including a bit of "I don't care" which is obviously a lie if he's going to go to the point of making a whole new place dedicated in part to crying about this one.

But how much anime porn was there?

If they are political rivals but have a healthy respect for each other - for example - or fight their wars mostly through proxies (think Moriarty versus Holmes) it's a different story.

Unless you're into House of Commons Rp, i don't see rival characters like this interacting all that much. Even though Harper and Trudeau shared the same barber, I don't imagine they met up that often for what we'd call RPs type scenes.

Likewise, greasers and soces would very rarely meet up, and when they did, it was usually trouble. They'd all stick to their own cliques for fun RP that interested them.

I'm in the crowd that doesn't like IC conflict. I deal with enough interpersonal politics at work with my managers and bosses all jockeying for positions and promotions that I don't want to RP doing that sort of thing when I get home and am trying to relax. It's tedious and boring to me.

When my characters meet IC PC assholes (especially ones that don't offer intriguing hooks, they just smoke their cigarettes extra hard), they just excuse themselves from the rooms and go rp elsewhere, why would they want to hang out with jerks when there's a galaxy to meet cool and interesting people just outside the door?

    • RE: Improving MSB

We could have flashes from the past and post random flamewars from rec.games.frp.dnd. Every time I see Improving MSB, I think of one of the trolls of that board, Michael Scott Brown and the petty petty arguments he'd get into when DnD 3.5 came out.

I often wonder if he and Mr. Bane are the same person.

@tragedyjones Agreed, I tried to binge it, but nodded off for an episode or two and haven't gotten back to it yet.

I'm also trying like hell to like the 100. I think having the Hero Guy and the Bad Guy boss looking exactly the same is putting me off. Also, everyone but blonde girl seems to be a fucking idiot. I kind of hope they all get eaten by two headed cannibal deer and we get to watch grounders do grounder things.

The choice between The Animals, Major Lazer, and Def Leppard has me stumped.

I guess I'm a first order stormtrooper for liking the Ramones and LSO.

I'd be interested in seeing the success statistics of forum bots like that. They seem like more work than just email spam.

I prefer drawings or paintings generally over actual actors. Deviant art is pretty good for that sort of thing. There are also a few decent subreddits out there for fantasy/sci fi artwork.

    • Are there any GURPS games out there?

Just wondering. I think its points system would be very conducive to the way most +noms systems tend to give people boat loads of xp in mushes.

@surreality I've also had people do the opposite to me. They'll post a sprawling five paragraph pose with tonnes of irrelevant information, like twenty actions and background characters that I have no ties to, and little interest, asking a million different questions on a thousand different topics and then complain when I do my best to answer the first question and react to something with a genuine reaction, rather than a roller coaster of emotions and reactions to the plethora of things.

      Like slow the fuck down.

    • RE: Mush Campaigns

Yeah, I feel fine doing stuff all secret like in Table Top, because I know the players personally and can cater to what they like.

In a Mush though, it seems like the players become much more invested because of the time spent with a particular character and the hoops they've had to jump through to get there.

The game I'm considering doing is basically going to be an Infinite worlds/The Mist/Half-Life/Rifts mashup, where players are townies who then get sucked into the end of the world as they know it. Of course, I'd tell people that hey, this is going to be a Rifts mush some time in the future, but right now, you get to play a Yuppie with a lake house while we get the ball rolling on RUINING YOUR CHARACTER'S LIFE!

Oh, and they might die along the way, but if all goes to plan, Cgen will be a snap.
