@Coin I'm surprised it's not a thing after all these years simply because it's such a blank canvas. You could literally do a sci-fi mu* set in the now all the way to a far flung future.

Speaking of that I think an mu* based on xcom would be fun. Remember how you would die before you even got all your men out of your ship?

Oh yes! Xcom would rule!! You'd need a system that kept your soldiers from hitting the enemies, though. Maybe have something like Marvel Hero's doom pool going on.

@Jennkryst I'm starting to think of Deadwood meets Star Wars. Base it in a shadowport on the fringes of wild space where a newly discovered hyperlane links up with a sector that was cut off by a black hole or something. Literally Edge of the Empire.

Last I heard Oz was getting super swamped with work. That was back in like, April or May.

    • RE: How Do You Cure Procrastination?

I read an article recently that had an interesting take on procrastination. I can't find it atm but here's a similar view:

What traits do you associate with procrastination? A) Being messy and disorganized or B) Being neat and orderly? If you choose option A, good for you; you are right. Perfectionists best fit description B, being neat and orderly, and unsurprisingly, they don't tend to procrastinate. The research—from Robert Slaney, who developed the Almost Perfect Scale to measure perfectionism, to my own meta-analytical research article, The Nature of Procrastination—shows this clearly.

I love that it put shades on the being neat and orderly part.

Take care of the little things. At least for me, cleaning the house is both procrastinating, and getting around to doing stuff I should be doing (even if something is more important at the time), which gives me a temporary good work ethic that I can carry on to the task at hand. It's also much easier to do stuff in a neat and tidy home.

Think of it as warming up.

I'm hoping it doesn't have a happy ending where Kira gets back to her own timeline.

It looks like it could go either way. It's difficult to talk about without spoiling it for people who aren't caught up.

@ThugHeaven I wonder if a tight budget forces them to put more effort into story and writing than special effects?

I'd love to see an Arkham Horror Mu.

Like pretty much a straight port of the table top game might work best. you have a grid consisting of Arkham, and each 'turn' takes a week or so, with the players hanging out rping and deciding what they're going to investigate each week, going to locations to fight the gin bandits or body snatchers or hanging out in the university to quell zombies in the lab basement for their little PrP.

Necromunda would be a pretty easy setting for 40k nerds to mush in. It can have pretty much everything, and is all stuck in one city. Sure the city is ridiculously huge, but for people who like politics, you have your houses, for smaller things, your gangs, or you can just be hired guns. You could also include inquisitor acolytes looking for heresy or pit slaves.

    • RE: Influence/Reputation system?

      @Derp said:

If there were no social -stats-, then you could completely freeform it. But since in most systems that's not the case, it's important to give the people who invest in them a meaningful way to use them as well.

I agree, but the issue is many players have difficulty separating themselves from the characters they're playing. They often can't conceive of backing down from an intimidating goon, or being momentarily charmed by someone they loathe.

Of course, quite a bit of that is tied to poorly crafted poses, or people who don't sink points into something, but go all purple on everyone and expect the same results with the point costs.

I think freeforming social is the best way, at least when other players are involved. NPCs it's fairly easy to run because most GMs don't take things too personally with mooks.

    • RE: Influence/Reputation system?

In tabletop I use 'rep points' whenever players do something badass in front of NPCs. They can redeem rep points for favours at varying costs. If they get into the negatives, they're seen as a mooch/poseur.

Dedicated worker in the cubicle next to me felt guilty that she had taken 2 days off sick and decided to come share her chunky cough with everyone.

For fucks sake, you get paid sick days for a reason! Don't give me fucking TB!

    • RE: Capped XP vs Staggered XP?

You could also do a Call of Cthulu type of advancement scheme. When you want to spend a bucket of your +xp on a skill raise, you roll a test to see if it went up or not. Once you get up to the higher tiers it would be very difficult to raise a skill.

With a system like this, you'd need to have actual buckets of XP handed out through +noms and all that, but I think most mushes have that covered.
