I'm not a mother. I don't have a WAY to be a mother right now. I really want them to stop grinding it into my face. I know it's innocent and that there isn't malice behind it (unlike, clearly, your mother-in-law who in this one instance was a terrible person) but it hurts like someone has punched me in the stomach.

My spider plants threw out a bunch of little babies this year and I actually managed to capture them, soak them in water for long enough, and now plant them so that I can give a few kids some baby spider plants to take home!

I'm super excited about this because my Third grade teacher gave me a spider plant that I kept all the way up till 5 years ago when my husband (love him, will never forgive him for this) threw it away in our move to our current state in favor of keeping the vacuum because he thought that the vacuum was more important (it wasn't). Thankfully my parents had a child of the original plant still that I'd gifted to a sister before college and I was able to get a baby of that plant. So the plants my students are getting will be the great-grandchild of the original plant.

TLDR: 9th year of teaching and I finally get to pass on a tradition from when I was my student's age. Warm fuzzies.

I personally felt really disconnected on the only Star Wars game I tried because of space travel. It was really hard to find RP because someone else was always elsewhere and couldn't get to where my non planet hopping character was.

Something else to keep in mind:

Most schools cannot, legally, nor medically, "diagnose" anything. "Specific Learning Disability" is what typically gets used by schools so that they aren't giving a medical diagnosis. A diagnosis has to come from a licensed medical practitioner. Most schools have person with a degree in social work, or special education, or counseling, but they are NOT a doctor.

The rules and regulations schools have to follow for special education are the worst (speaking from a teacher stand point.) I'm not legally allowed to say things to parents in many cases because I'm not "qualified." The best thing a parent can do is realize that in so many ways schools have their hands tied but the one thing that will untie them is a vocal parent who pushes till their kid gets what they need. This includes calling every. single. day. until the test is scheduled or finding an outside source to test. It includes showing up at the school and being willing to sit in the office till someone is able to meet with you. It absolutely includes sitting down with that god only knows how long pages of procedural safeguards and reading every single sentence. It's going to pit parent vs school in some cases, but when it comes down to it, the kid getting what they need is what everyone wants. Just... the system sucks.

Leave my kids alone. (Thank God my district wasn't directly targeted. But every school in Denver/most surrounding cities were on Lockout/controlled release.) It sucked to walk the Boys and Girls Club kiddos over and go, "If the crazy person were to attack, could I really protect them?"

(The answer is no - probably not, not all of them.)
