    • RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning

@nyctophiliac I had this very, very elaborate dream. Staff was rolling out some kind of Next Phase to the metaplot, and part of that was kicked off by this very, very long and detailed book being released, and my having stumbled on it. It was a long history, with names and places and myriad details. I forgot most of it upon waking up, but one detail remained, about a particular person being 106 years old, after sacrificing the would-be heir to the throne (the little kid appeared to just get sick and die naturally).

In the dream, I finished reading this book, and was all "woah" and stepped away from my laptop to go do something in the house. Then I noticed lights flickering in my office, which is sort of down the hall from the rest of the house. I went to investigate, and all the lights went off in there. So I went to get a flashlight, and soon as I brought the flashlight into the room, it also flickered and shut off. Then the darkness started to spread room to room and consumed my whole house.

When I actually woke up, I had to go check on the whole house, check on the family, etc etc.

      Fun stuff.

Just for those who are suggesting it: Patreon does not have a "tip jar". I really wish it did. A whole lot of people wish it did.

      https://digitaltipjar.com/ ??

There's a few others like it. Plus you can do it through PayPal.

@Thenomain I think listing "suggested donation" and setting up a Patreon or whatever for people to kick money into would help. Admittedly, I don't know how Patreon works exactly, but taking on projects as they come, on your own time, with your own preferences, and having a way for people to send money to you sounds a lot better. Plus, I bet if BrandNewGameX(tm) had a good showing, the owners would link said account and you'd get players tossing in.

This will keep your hobby a hobby, your good will gesture just that, plus you'd have a little extra scratch come rent due.

@Sunny - Just to give an idea, I coded posebreak and repose, and it was probably upwards to 20 hours? More? To get through it all. There was a lot of time sit staring at screams and trying to figure out what commands and functions were available, and some of that would be reduced by someone who knows the code better, but to dump 40 hours into a system isn't unrealistic, if you include time spent planning, tweaking, debugging, etc.

Since someone just took Jack off the roster, spose I should update this... That's not me!

I took Kaede off the roster, and am now playing her, plus Mae.

      Okay, here we go...

Lots of custom stuff. Lots of stuff borrowed from elsewhere. My personal is Cryptids, which is an original/unique one me and @Ganymede did, as opposed to just adapting an existing.

Here is Reno's current selection of bloodlines: http://reno.kydance.net/index.php/Sphere:Vampire/Bloodlines

I can't source them all but those are examples.

Speaking as a player, I love, love, love bloodlines. I could play without them but given the choice between the game with and the game without, I'll go with the game with.

I want to say those are some of Mine + Gany's, @Coin's and @tragedyjones'.

I'll contribute nothing at all to this conversation by saying: I hate bloodlines and it frustrates me that everyone wants them.

That said, @Ganymede and I made up a couple for another game that's been put on hold for a while now. If you want some samples, I'd be happy to share. I think Gany is good sharing, too. Just like @surreality said, we used a set template for most of the bloodlines, which is flaw, perk, then a few devotions.

    • RE: Join Westrock Reach @ Arx!

@ortallus For you and anyone else that might stumble across... The (very) short version:

Arx is an original fantasy setting based in a very large city (Arx). The mystical and magical are slowly reawakening as the people of Arx rediscover old allies, old enemies, old magics, and the like. The came centers around Arx, which is the seat of power of the Compact - a kingdom formed by the alliance of 5 great houses. The mood there is mostly urban, the theme is fairly relaxed and easy, and the story that is provided is impossibly vast.

By impossibly vast, I mean, you can spend a few RL weeks investigating some oddity and end up finding some 100 year old note that some knight wrote to her liege, which describes some foul evil on the horizon. It's that level of depth in the lore. It's awesome.

I'm still on iOS 10, but this never happened to me. It would time out after many (5-10) minutes of being inactive, but it would send a warning before timing out. Was it happening on iOS 10?

    • RE: How to use Potato MU Client

My dear (not actually a) stalker asked how to highlight names without highlighting words that contain that name. Ie, Mae but not Maelstrom.

      Create a new event:

      • Event Name: Name Highlight
      • Pattern: \m(Name|Nickname|Othername)\M
** Put your name there instead of 'name'
      • Type: regexp
      • Case: Checked
      • Enabled?: Checked
      • Continue?: Checked
      • Match All?: Checked
      • Run When: Always
      • Change FG: Color of your choice

NOTE: Above, where it says \m(Name|Nickname|Othername)\M, all the different things are different possible highlights. If you have no nicknames, you would simply do \m(Name)\M. Example, if your character is Captain Jack Sparrow, you might want to highlight "Jack" and "Captain Sparrow" so you'd do \m(Jack|Captain Sparrow)\M. Got it? Thanks to @ixokai for this.

That should do it... Please note, like every time anyone ever uses of regexp I have no idea what I'm doing and just copied and pasted some code until I found the stuff that worked. So let me know if it's not working for you?

@lithium Fair point! It'd have to be really well coded. I actually started on a system for it, but then I had players doing literal muppet arm flailing about how OH MY GOD IT"S GOING TO BE A MUD.

Hard. Hard to balance. Maybe I'll pick that system back up one day. And the game. Werewolves in Hawaii, anyone?

    • RE: CoD/W:tF 2E?

I'm going to +1 the "the community walks away from single sphere games".

Many spheres = more characters = more stuff to do = more players = more stuff to do = ... You get the idea. We have a Changeling game that's been going for a while, single sphere, and it is holding it's own, and coming up on a year old, but even then it's quiet most of the time. There's a core group that enjoys their time, and for many people, that's just fine. But we hardly have the player base to support much more.

I've seen as people walk away from other single-sphere games because it's boring, because they like the inter-sphere interaction, or because they can't find a scene.

All that said, I think some games to play better in the single-sphere setting. Vampire does, because it's a lot more player-against-player. Changeling seems to play well, because there's a fair amount of politicking and player-against-player action, while also having an oddly dedicated fan base. I think Mage is way hard, due to the constant need for staff attention. Likewise, werewolf is very difficult, as someone needs to be running the Hisil, and that takes a lot of effort.

I'll say best wishes to whatever single sphere game is in the chute, but I have my doubts.

@fortydeuce I used nick page foo?$1=page foobartholicus=$1 where the ? translates to any individual character. Which does mean that typing page foobartholicus=hey! resulted in You page foobartholicus with "artholicus=Hey!"

Another trick... Sometimes, ctrl+c doesn't copy text out of the text scroll. No idea why.

Go to Options -> Configure Program Settings -> Program Settings -> Misc Settings -> Select to Copy

      alt text

When you select text in your text scroll, it will auto-copy it, soon as you select it. Note that does get a little annoying if you copy something else, then select something, it overwrites the "copy". Likewise, if you don't unselect the text, and flick back and forth between windows, it may copy the selected text again. Still, way prefer this way to ctrl+c being unreliable.

    • RE: Pitch me your WoD

I play sporadically and staff on Fate's Harvest. It's Changeling: The Lost (and mortal), and mostly 1E rule sets (with some 2E stuff). The setting is Vermont, where a newish Freehold has been established. Our metaplot involves some odd history in the semi-recent past that's being dredged up, as well as a dark force slowly seeping it's power through the town.

To Play: Steady, reliable player base of about 20-30 unique logins, and 8-12 people actively RPing at any given time. There's a pretty steady day-time (US) player base, too. The game is ran by Annapurna, who played November on The Reach and someone else on somewhere else. She's really great.

Not to Play: I personally really dislike 1E, but considering there's no 2E changeling it's palatable.

Elsewise: A lot of people don't like that Spider is playing here. MSB has already went through this a few times, and I don't want to make to dive into it again. I'll just say that staff is aware of this players history and the player has been very responsive to feedback and criticism staff has given.
