I think that isn't fair. Staff on Arx has said they are on it. There is a system coming, AND an IC reason for it. So.

RE: Arx's Elevation Situation
My big worry with this is as someone who does not want players d ok wn the road not get to do this sort of rp for their houses, because that would suck. 'Sorry guys, we decided there was a limit on that kind of fun and we used it all up.'

RE: Arx's Elevation Situation
I bring it up only because I know what that bank used to look like, and it is problematic to try and say Velenosa is going to feel a significant impact from losing their taxes. Unless Velenosa is way, way worse off than it used to be.

RE: Arx's Elevation Situation
It isn't a significant portion of their income. Pravus, when I had it, was paying an amount in taxes that I made up within 1 or 2 dots of income. Which is, all told, 2000 resources. This is in no way significant to the great houses.

RE: Arx's Elevation Situation
Where are the liege houses losing? Can they not also take steps to.grow their own domains? Can they not regain the income? They aren't being punished. Nobody is taking something away that they earned and worked hard for. Somebody else earned enough pretend money to go off on their own. Earn your own pretend money. 1000 economic resources buys a point of income domain stat. Invest the taxes you are getting into your income. Do something proactive.

RE: Arx's Elevation Situation
I don't understand why this is actually a problem. There is a plot reason for it, people are working for it, and it is a tangible goal people can succeed at. There is no limit to the pieces of pie here, everyone can have part of the fun. I do not see why this is something that needs more of a solution than already exists.
Should we set a limit on how many people can have 5s? It's just as much of, if not more than, a realism issue.
ETA: Especially given that there are NPC houses, why is it a problem if people plan smart, grow and invest well, and get bigger? None of this shit is just being handed out without work, which is how most of the non-elevated people got THEIR power.

RE: MU Things I Love
I am SO DAMN HAPPY your experience is going well. I was really sure you were going to be a fit, and I was completely right. Everybody is as happy to have you as you are to be there, I promise. I heard lots of really good things.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
I really dislike Kaiser Permanente. A lot.
New location opening. Meet and greet is tomorrow, we were provided the info at a benefits meeting a while back. Called the location to find out what time. No answer, transferred me to answering service. She couldn't help and had no idea, took 20 minutes, eventually gave up and transferred me to someone else.
This someone else absolutely refused to answer my question unless I provided her with all of my PII.
For time for an open house.
Eff off. I told the person who needed to know sorry, and that was that. Grr.

RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
My point has been made, in terms of the value and my feelings, yes. I would like to continue with the point of the thread which is to discuss options for what we can do about it. It should not be this hard to have a conversation. I am tired.
ETA: Like, all my fire for the topic got used up in trying to explain why it's even OK for us to talk about this. Hopefully @Pandora will pick the torch back up, but I don't blame her if she doesn't want to, either.

RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
I am seriously not trying to be rude here, but there have been SEVERAL posts by people here (me, including) detailing at length how we feel about things, our experience with them, and what is helpful about some of the solutions posed. What you are asking for has had several HUGE posts made in the past few days in this very thread speaking to that precise issue. I don't have the spoons to go into it again, and just quoting my post a second time at you isn't really mildly constructive. The question posed has been answered here repeatedly.

RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
@surreality said in Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries:
The form of abuse you are most concerned about is not the same as the kind of abuse people in this thread are most concerned about.
There is no happening on a game that is worth traumatizing a real human being, full stop.
So @surreality had a lot to say here, but I really want to call this out. THIS IS THE POINT.
Yes, there are people that absolutely can abuse this sort of system, but what are they going to accomplish with that abuse?
Being irritating.
This sort of system is not being discussed to address irritation, it is being discussed to address harm.
ETA: The reason I have not addressed the topic of being concerned that the hobby is going in this way is that I have no way to express my objections to 'we care about harm to human beings now' being a problem in a fashion that is appropriate outside of the hog pit.
ETA2: Who seriously cares if someone uses +nothanks to get out of a rape scene if they aren't actually traumatized? WHY IS THIS A PROBLEM?

RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
Yes. I read it all. I am not going to go point by point because the fundamental difference here is perspective and priorities, which until you acknowledge that the topic itself has value -- like, not to us, but to yourself -- there isn't a point.

RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
Other people prioritize the comfort of the anxious over the comfort of the people making them that way. They have different priorities than you do. This is ok. I promise it is.
-
RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
Like seriously. If you go and look at the xcard thread I started a few months? ago, it is the same thing. A whole lot of resistance to the idea of assisting people with this type of comfort from a few key individuals who apparently find it offensive that other people are allowed to handle and care about things differently.
Eta: like I have no need whatsoever to see this implemented on a game where the creator isn't in to it. It probably isn't a great system for WoD given the source material, but -- I mostly play in other genres, and I'm not sure why something like this would be problematic for, say, a Harry Potter or Pern game.

RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
There is a difference between discuasing issues and 'this is bad stop talking about it'.
-
RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
I just want to know why it bothers him SO MUCH that people are talking about addressing this issue. Like cool, he doesn't want the people who need a tool like this on his game, but there are plenty of games that actually do?

RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
The reason I like this, and the X card, is for one of the reasons etiquette is a thing.
When you are having a triggered episode for some kinds of panic disorders, your brain stops working. Processing moves from logic to instinct. Only the techniques that are habit can be accessed when you are in this place. Executive function is significantly diminished. This is to put all of your available resources into paying attention to your surroundings and finding the way to escape.
So, most of the time on a mush, episodes aren't ever going to be full blown like that. However, in crisis mode - which is where we go when we are uncomfortable like this - it is milder version of the same thing. Brain doesn't work. Can't work.
If you have an exact script in front of you that is memorized/written down/requires no executive thought, it can be done. Crisis passes. Everyone calms down.
Having to find words to explain myself in crisis is HARD.
