    • RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.

      @Auspice

      I don't think you're being unreasonable with the scenario as presented. If everyone has their own desks, there's no reason that she needs to be using it, and there's an expectation of personal space that's being invaded there. People sometimes sit and use my desk at work when I'm not here (for a variety of reasons), but they would always put it back, and they leave me NOTES when they do it. Because my space, polite, and so on.

      I can't think of a way to say this without making you worry, but getting a new job should really be a priority, even if it has good things about it. You're bright enough and capable enough that while you might have to go out of industry or something, I can't imagine you won't find somewhere over a longer timeline of looking. Your workplace is terrible, they are treating you terrible, and it does not sound as if anything short of a lawsuit will have any impact on making it better. Your health/anxiety are going to get worse in this environment, and anything that you could do to try and help it get fixed will short-term make health/anxiety yet worse. 😞

      ETA: Summarized as: GET OUT OF THERE DAMNIT. I know it's not that simple, I do know, I really really really do (I was there, I had a job that came >< close to killing me, I finally quit on the third heart attack) but you are worth more than what they are treating you like. By a lot.

      That has got to be the funniest thing I've read all day. Now I want to go ask my teenager and see what he does. o.o

      I'd be interested. I didn't get into the setting until after people stopped making mushes, but I played the tabletop game tabletop for years and years and loved it.

      I feel like I ought to know you, but my memory is crap. I was Aine on Denver, and also Lark on CoH. Did you play on Ashes?

      You are really super fun, and I'm glad that said friends did grab your arm! Norwood is pretty much the best murderer ever.

    • RE: Prototart's Super Brief Char List

      I find your post gross, and I find it doubly gross that you posted it in this thread. If you want to stir things up like that, maybe go start your own thread in the hog pit.

      ETA: Actually, all y'all snarking about the games, really. This is the OP's character list thread. It's not against the rules, but maybe some common decency, yeah?

      ETA2: Thank you.

      Hahaha. Don't sweat it, I only vaguely remember details, too. I do remember that Piers drove. Emma. Crazy. Like really really crazy. But in a fun-for-me way so it was good.

      I'm so sorry, man. Let folks know if there's anything we can do to help keep your chin above water while you're going through dealing with it all. We care.

      @faraday

      Oh, I know -- absolutely. I was just pointing out that 'they're free so being poor isn't an excuse' isn't really all that accurate once you get to a certain level of poverty.

      There are a not-insignificant number of people in poverty so deeply in the United States that free wellness exams/vaccines are still out of their reach. If they are sick enough for the ER, that is their option. That is their only option. For themselves, and for their children. Not everyone has a support network. Not everyone has access to transportation. Not everyone can take time off of work. Is it easy for me to judge and say there's no excuse, because they could take one of their days off (you mean the days they are working the other jobs?) and ride the bus / spend most of the day (a day they could be working and getting money to try not to be homeless) going to the clinic to get their kid vaccinated? Sure. It's easy to judge.

      I've been that poor. It cost me a dangerous amount of money to get my kid vaccinated at the Department of Health free vaccine clinic that they do for elementary school children. Not only that, but they were only doing it for like 3 day chunks when they were doing it, and EVERYONE who had a school aged child who was poor enough to qualify had the one place to do it.

    • RE: What's your favorite MU* client?

      I switched to Potato 'cos Ixy actively used more colors than Simplemu handled on his default codebase setup and he talked me into just LOOKING at it after a years-long, stubborn refusal to even consider switching. I immediately fell in love with the double input window and haven't gone back, even with losing inline spellcheck and spawns that work (I'm inept and can't get Potato's spawns to work).
