We'll end up on the same game again for the first time in eleventy billion years, amazing. We will have to play.

RE: Potential Buffy Game
I feel like people who are not Buffy fans and are not interested in Buffy as a project (save in being invested that it's not another WoD game) are trying to turn it into something that it isn't. @ZombieGenesis has a good, solid idea/plan, and I don't know why the waters need to be muddied, why 'we want buffy but not...' is a place people are going to. @ixokai sums up my viewpoints pretty much entirely, on what appeals to me about this genre and why, and while I can see other interpretations, what he's pointing out as important to him, Buffy-wise, is where I am at as well. I don't see a conflict between Buffy and Angel, they're the same setting/story/world/lore, just slightly different takes on tone that can (and do) absolutely co-exist without any sort of difficulty. Saying it's a difference between HS and college is only accurate if you discount the final seasons of Buffy AND disregard Angel's actual setting (which wasn't monsters going to college, I'll note). There is a huge cosmology. There is a huge amount of lore. There is very distinct stuff about this setting of interpersonal drama against the backdrop of saving the world.

RE: Amber: Why Can't I Quit You
Yeah, I have no real mush-history experience with any of the Amber games, I played on them both briefly and could never stick. I've run it extensively tabletop though, both online and offline, using the DRPG.

RE: Potential Buffy Game
My 'it's not Buffy' statement was related to the general premise of the game. I get that people want to see something unique/different/not done before, but I want to play a Buffy game. That means playing people (of whatever sort) that are fighting the good fight against the darkness in a relatively modern-day setting. There are LOTS of REALLY COOL and fun things that can be done with the Buffy system, and the setup, and all of that, there's no question. But what's being discussed here is an actual Buffy game. If you don't want to play Buffy, I do not understand why you need to hijack the Buffy game to try and make something else.
ETA: Also, this is the game development section, and I would appreciate it if the insults could be kept to a minimum, thanks.

RE: Amber: Why Can't I Quit You
That sounds a good way to handle/manage it. I've only ever played w/ the DRPG.

It does make sense. Something for me to chew on. Remind me I want to kick that can around with you.

RE: Potential Buffy Game
@admiral
Because that's not Buffy. That's using the system and making a not-Buffy game with it. The topic on the table is a Buffy game.

RE: Potential Buffy Game
That would make me super happy, setting wise. Buffybuffybuffy omg. I have been trying to get @ixokai to do it for I don't know how many years.

RE: Amber: Why Can't I Quit You
The problem with going at it that way is that it loses the whole point of what #1 is supposed to represent: you are the best at the thing in all of existence. Everyone Knows Who The Best Is, so to speak. Not that this is necessarily a terrible thing to just ditch. It's an iconic Amber thing, but maybe it's not one of the most iconic things.

RE: Amber: Why Can't I Quit You
What are peoples' thoughts on how you could handle the DRPG character creation with #1/etc in a persistent mush environment? Or system stuff in general? I know how I managed it for an OTT, but if someone were going to put together something a little more mushlike in scope? This is the conundrum I run into when I think about it.

RE: Potential Buffy Game
But I want to play Buffy. Not Buffy on Venus or Buffy in Space or Buffy in Wakanda. None of the suggestions you've made sound like much fun to me at all, and they surely don't sound like Buffy to me. 'Generic small town with a big college' IS Buffy. Like if you don't like the premise or the show or the themes or whatever, that's fine? But 'make a D&D game except no swords and no wizards and no castles' ? Er. What ZG's proposed is EXACTLY what I'm hoping for from a Buffy game, personally.

Please Buffy? Please? This is me making big eyes.
I'd love Buffy too but I have so many questions about how it'd be done, MUSH-wise.
Buffy mushes were a thing for a very long time, it's really not all that hard or weird. I don't have any more/different questions re: a Buffy game than I would any other mush.

RE: Amber: Why Can't I Quit You
Man, I never had so much fun running anything as I did with my Amber game. It really has to be one of my favorite things to run, ever. I don't really think it works as well as it could in a full-blown mush environment, but it made for pretty much the best OTT ever.
ETA: Damn I miss that shit now.

I really, really hate people who hurt others on purpose just because they don't care about them.
But it's okay when you do it? OK. (fyi, yeah, you hurt me, and are continuing to do so, by characterizing my self-defense as being offense.)
ETA: switched 'hatred' for 'offense' because that's more accurate.

@sunny I mean he responded to me, and I don't think anyone who upvoted my post plays there. I know you and Apos don't. I doubt Saosmash does. But ell oh ell to him and his grapes imo
Apparently it's not OK these days to defend yourself when somebody lies about you, though. You're just being mean to somebody if you object to being lied about.

RE: RL Anger
@thenomain said in RL Anger:
If I wasn't talking about you, then why are you coming here to defend yourself? What's there to defend?
This kind of "rushing to the defense of something not needing defense" is exactly what I was talking about, though, so now I am.
Partisanism sucks, people. It really, really does.
Sorry, I'm not following you. You are obviously referring to me, with your 'anyone active on the forum today will know what I'm talking about wink wink nudge nudge' and having JUST called me out in a thread for the issue you're talking about here. Whatever man.
ETA: Literally all I did was point out that the statement wasn't true, as a number of the people he was referencing (that included me) don't play there, so couldn't possibly be the 'cool kids' he was complaining about.

RE: RL Anger
IDGAF if somebody doesn't like things, or if somebody hates things. Lying about the reasons for it, being blatantly untruthful, is what I object to. He was referring to me, as one of the people who upvoted those posts. Half of the people he was referring to do not even play on that game. I don't play on that game, it's not a thing that I like. I don't disagree with you in principle, but again: get my name out of your mouth if you don't want me to weigh in. He had my name in his mouth with the statement I objected to.

@kanye-qwest You can tell who the clique is by who upvotes every single post in this thread praising the game.
Yeah, glad I left. You guys can fuck right off.
Even a cursory glance through this page alone betrays that this statement is factually incorrect, just FYI.
