      Er, pointing out that something is actively excluding some segment of people isn't actually an insult, and it's necessary for the healthy functioning of a game in many cases by making it plain what you're interested in fostering as behavior on your game. There's a sort of proactivity involved in playing on gridless games that is absolutely a desirable trait in players, and choosing to take the steps to foster that behavior and weed out other behavior isn't a bad thing.

      In this case, we're talking about a preference for a grid vs a preference for no grid. Choosing to go with no grid excludes the people that have a hard time playing without one. It's not like, a problem? You're certainly not a bad person, there's no judgment involved here. You explicitly stated it's your preference to not have a grid. What I have trouble with is not addressed by your proposed solution. Either I'm not explaining it well, or it's being misunderstood -- I'm not terribly worried about it, but again, my statement of 'that doesn't solve my problem at all' isn't a value judgment.

      Yeah, that doesn't solve my problem at all. I'm glad that it works for you, though! I just thought it was worth considering, that people like me do exist. If the choice is made to actively exclude, that's fine -- not every game is for every person, and I've certainly got no issues with that.

      Something else to consider is the whole 'public scene' aspect -- I am much more likely to go to a scene in progress somewhere I know is part of the 'public grid' than I am going to be to page someone for RP so I can get a +meetme, or join a room from a list of rooms that I'm not sure is a private scene or what because it's all on a list and are you SURE that I won't be interrupting?

      There may not actually be a functional difference between picking a room off a list or just walking into it from the grid, but there are still practical differences to take into consideration.

      Yes, once people on a game get established, they're all for asking for +meetmes and joining their friends wherever they are, without a grid...how do you get there? How do you get over being new, a solo player, without an established playgroup? You can't be shy, fuck, no way -- you HAVE to be proactive and ask people directly for RP...

      @HelloProject

      It used to be that automated systems were what White Wolf cared about -- it turned it into a video game rather than being tools for long distance tabletop. Idk what the status of that is these days, but it was certainly a major issue once upon a time. Muds use mud systems, usually, not a company's IP.

      Used to be that both White Wolf and Wizards of the Coast had serious issues with systems that removed the need for the books. Sheet and dice code was OK, automated combat was not. Idk if that is still the case, but it was a major consideration when we were doing code on Ashes.

      Helpful reminder for those who have forgotten: the little eye symbol beside someone's name ignores people (and actually works, this version!).

      @Cupcake

      Yeah, that was one of my first thoughts watching it. I'm not convinced it would actually make a good setting for RP, there are some pretty big issues with the setting as presented, but doing something heavily inspired by could be really good.

      ETA: If I wasn't still on my Dragon Age kick I'd probably be looking at this setting a lot more intently.I think it would be a great use-case for FS3.

      @Tanyuu

      And see? If it's too bad, they will not only mock it in the thread, but for years to come as well. I'm not trying to be discouraging! I am just concerned that you are hesitant about unleashing the hounds and thus want to make sure you are well braced for impact if it does happen.

      On the bright side, there are a WHOLE LOT of people around here right now that are looking for something new, and A Genre Beyond What They Are Used To is probably actually something that might appeal more now than it has in years past. It's totally worth trying.

      Understandable. Yeah, it's not something people are going to go 'how dare you post a game of that format here!!'...but it will probably get a fair amount of flak. Not necessarily because of the genre (though somebody might get crabby about that, who knows), but just because that's how things often roll around here.

      To sort of add to what they're saying -- posting an ad here is allowed and encouraged (particularly in the forum for such!), and if you've been lurking around here as long as you say you have been, you'll know that you'll need to be at least moderately thick skinned to do said posting. I can't imagine that any ad thread was actually pulled by the admin around here for the reasons you've stated -- it may have ended up moved, but removed? That sounds like a misunderstanding of events on your part.

      @Miss-Demeanor

      And...so? Tea? China?

      My statement was in response to equating out a desire for no stupid PC death to wanting complete control. Key words there: desire, complete. The confusion was related to that specific, precise desire. This whole argument started because some folks stated they would not be interested in playing on a game where capricious character death was the thing. So acceptance of a stupid death has zero to do with anything.

      Not wanting stupid character death does not in any way indicate a desire to control everything.

      Saying that you get it and then turning around and proving you don't does not understanding indicate. You quite clearly don't get it, don't care, and are just continuing to insult everyone that doesn't agree with you with blatant lack of an attempt to understand. You're speaking out both sides of your mouth, here.

      And cute, you little hypocrite. Insult everyone else every post, and then object to someone else calling you on it? Classy.

      I work in IT, and everyone in my office is 35+. We roll out brand new tech all the time. Just got a 3D printer in the office, actually. What you are saying is demonstratively false in the industry, not confirmed as fact.
