    • Fallen World MUX 1.0

      Greetings, Sleeping masses!

Fallen World is a Mage: The Awakening 2nd Edition game set in Manhattan, NY, where, years ago, the Seers of the Throne won. By betraying an alliance with the Pentacle, the Seers sent the Orders scattering in the wind. The Adamantine Arrow, Free Council, Guardians of the Veil, Mysterium and Silver Ladder lost everything. Now, four years later, a new generation of mages flock to Manhattan with its unsolvable Mysteries and its lost treasures. And they want it all. In secrecy they pour back into hostile territory to take back what is theirs by birthright, in pursuit of the Supernal and vengeance against the men and women of the Iron Pyramid.

Setting: January 2017, The Occult Warzone of Manhattan

The Pentacle has recently gained a foothold in Manhattan and founded its new Consilium in abandoned chambers under the Grand Central Station. While the young mages fight to overcome their distrust with the grizzled veterans the Mysterium attempts to take back their Athenaeum and the Guardians of the Veil stare at the precipice of another Austere crisis.

The Seers of the Throne observe from their Hallows hundreds of meters above the ground, guarding the Fallen World for their masters while juggling the increasingly more troublesome Pentacle insurrection and their own backstabbing colleagues.

The Tremere act in silence, draining the very soul of the Fallen World to feed the Seventh Watchtower somewhere beneath Manhattan, the soulstones of the former Councilors in their possession. Ansho come and go all over the island, denying mages of their greatest advantage over their foes.

Vampiric alliances of the Silver Ladder watch a war they can barely comprehend from the dimmest corners of Manhattan while the Lupine gangs of Brooklyn salivate at the thought of revenge against the mages who captured and experimented on their brethren.

Manhattan is a small island, but a mage’s work is never done.

      Fallen World features:

Fallen World 1.0: We have been open since July, but since then we have made many changes to the game based on player feedback! New policies have been made in regards to alts, uncapping experiences, Sanctums, crafting, Perfected Materials, Legacies, Order Requisitioning, Status, Dynasties and much more! If you are a first timer or was looking to get your mage back on, the time is now!

Influence The Outcome: The mages of Manhattan recently saved the remnant of a Dynasty that has since become available for play. The Consilium has been formed and decides how to tackle the threats besieging the Pentacle from all sides. Deciding the direction of war as a Councilor of the Consilium or Voter of the Free Council, as a front line spellcaster or Sleepwalking Ansho explorer, there is much to be done and many things to explore.

Weekly Stories: Our team of storytellers is organized and equipped to provide the game with a lot of chaos and fun, running at least one scene per week in relation to one of the bigger plots of the game. We are also always looking for more people willing to run scenes for others!

      TL;DR

      M:tAw 2E! Manhattan! JOIN US AT FALLENWORLDMUX.COM PORT: 1984!

I made a new thread but the feedback we got from the previous one was not forgotten, it was taken to heart and it helped us improve and take the shape we have nowdays! Thanks to everyone who was so respectful and insightful in light of my shortcomings! ❤

@rizbunz Being supportive of players is very important, for sure. I don't like to be downer either, but I think pink-tinted goggles haven't ever helped a game before, so I thought I might share my experiences.

Players will not ever not be players. If you think like this, you'll be prepared for the worst, and pleasantly surprised when The One surprises you.

    • RE: Classic World of Darkness

Only if it is single-Sphere, to be fair. Almost all of the oWoD games I've seen are 'everything goes' and I feel that dilutes the theme and vibe so much I have no desire to even app (and I will app anywhere to give it a go)! So either Werewolf and Vampire, I am super down with.

My experience with Vampire is to use only the Sabbat and/or Camarilla sects. I know players will want ALL the sects and ALL the clans/bloodlines, but spreading the player base thin in these games has proven to be a bad thing, from what I observed in the past.

Make it pre-Gehenna, truly classic. Maybe 2nd Edition/3rd Edition 'lore'.

A Mage Game First and Foremost

Allow yourself to see the World of Darkness through the eyes of the Awakened. While many monsters dwell in darkness, a mage is forever haunted by the awareness that everyone is living the Lie. A Wise is someone tasked with the impossible mission of freeing humanity from the grip of that little voice that whispers ‘you are not good enough’ while struggling with the temptation of having the power to do anything one could ever desire.

This is a game of wondrous journeys to other planes of existence hiding inside Central Park’s Bethesda Fountain, escaping a pack of werewolves through magical passages in New York's subways, finding hidden symbols and keys written in the clouds as one visits the Empire State building, magic dueling Seers of the Throne on Liberty Island and fighting unreality horrors from the Abyss feeding off New Age yoga cults in Harlem. There are areas of the city where magic cannot be, and some where one is met only with giant, impossible clockwork upon turning a wrong alley. It is dangerous and dark, exciting and epic, mysterious and secretive. It can be horrific, and it can be fantastic.

Setting: The Lost City of New York

Fallen World MUX is set in a custom modern Mahattan where recent events have conspired to create a unique setting. Years ago the Consilium was betrayed and destroyed by the Seers of the Throne after an alliance to handle an event of apocalyptic proportions. Years later some Wise (you!) have decided to take the island back. Too Mysterious and treasure-ridden to be left alone, the borough of New York once-hailed as a haven of Truth is known by the Wise as an almost ungovernable warzone. Buildings shift from place to place at certain dates while Sleepers remain none the wiser. The Tremere have the Soulstones and the immense Demesne of the last Consilium and Seers of the Throne keep a watchful eye for any open assault of the Pentacle while fighting amongst themselves for the privilege of guarding the resting ground of the Eldest. The Austere turn their gaze to an unknowable Machine God from which they hope their Hieromagus will come, and Hallows ping in an out of existence faster than mages can grab a hold of them. It is a city of abandoned Sanctums guarded by maddened constructs, of corners that take a mage to other cities, sometimes somewhere else in time, and where every Mystery might be your last, or take you one step towards Ascension.

      Factions, Reputations and Status

The Factions in Fallen World have two layers: Status and Positions. Status is the measure of a character's respect in a Faction and the resources the organization spends on her. Status is gained by increasing your Reputation points through scenes that follow the Reputation Guidelines of a certain Faction, and it is lost as Reputation decays overtime. Each level of Status confers special benefits unique to a certain Faction. Positions are official ranks within a Faction. Although separate, both things intermingle constantly.

      Dynasties and Player Agency

One of the main features of the game are the Dynasties that still survive in Manhattan, despite troubling times. Broken and scattered, or hidden in plain sight, these families are still in touch with the Supernal, but they need leadership. Players of these families, and especially their Leaders, are more than welcome to decide their fates, join with Orders, change how to earn Reputation in them or maybe even remain neutral, awaiting for better offers from players yet to reveal themselves.
In the same way, players are expected to slowly build a Consilium up, form their Charter, and as they do, more features will open for players in the game.

      A Game For Storytellers

More than anything, Fallen World is a Storytelling game. We offer many mechanics and benefits for Storytellers, and exclusive Story Rewards for people who decide to participate in plots. Casual coffee shop is more than fine by us, as is (almost) all RP, but players getting involved with Mysteries and intrigue can expect unique Story Rewards. Furthermore, we desire to build an environment where players can work with each other, so hostility between players/characters is closely monitored by staff. This is not a PvP game.

      State of the Game

Fallen World MUX has an almost-finished wiki and the grid is done but in need of some builds. We are also in the last steps of coding the CG, but the wiki still displays many holes and outdated information in regards to mechanics. Do not trust the wiki… yet! We are almost there, but until the release, the wiki is part of the Lie! We are also looking for staff, especially plot staff, but if you feel you can help, drop us a line!

That being said, and thanks to @Bobotron for outing us (>=|) this is le wiki: http://fallenworldmux.com/wiki/Main_Page

Feel free to ask questions, give input and help us build a better game! 😃

    • RE: POLL: Super Hero MU Gut Check

@Ghost Setup a X-Men world like they were in the 80's~90's, and they were a hated, minor anomaly in the country (and not just another brand of superhero like they are today), and you establish two 'pockets' where the freaks can live among their own without fear. That alone should be enough to keep them together, IC, even if a character or another doesn't want to agree with Xavier or Magneto. I did love the 198 run too.

    • RE: Descent Reboot

@Taika Storytellers are the single most valuable resource a MU can have, so that they get something for their troubles makes sense. It is also not what I was talking about, though. When you add up those rewards, you start to look at characters who can maybe double their XP income in a week, and even if you don't think a 45XP character is a dinosaur (we can disagree on that) odds are they will have a lot MORE by the time the 8 month mark hits.

When that happens, how do you plan on making new characters excited at all about engaging with a game if they cannot compete, at all, with the established characters? Is that by design? If so, then okay! If you don't want that to happen, you should plan accordingly!

    • RE: I owe a lot of people some apologies.

@goldfish I see your reasoning. The problem with what you do is that bad people will sometimes predate on good people like you, and actually hide behind you when stuff gets hot. I know finding people to RP with isn't always easy, but you will end up being abused, and that will hurt the community in the long run.

Does anyone in this hobby nowdays have the time, maturity and energy to provide a 'focused, story-driven experiences' to a game of 50+ players, all with conflicting schedules, interests, interpretations and OOC grudges that have lasted for years? One that doesn't just focus on a few faithful friends + whoever happens to manage to sign up for the +events and ask the right +job questions?

I think the pursuit of making MUs like tabletop games is really misguided.

    • RE: Miami, Blood in the Water

Hey, @Sonder, I really like the effort you put in supporting your games. That is really hard and despite mistakes, you have done a better job than anyone I've seen.

That being said, I think this announcement is sort of a mistake. It feels like you are playing catchup with the San Francisco game, and is rushing out THE R3EACH: MIAMI EDITION. That game probably needs some time to develop so it can be its own thing, and compete with San Francisco on quality and direction, and not launching dates.

I have seen your ad for Fallcoast (the one made by the chamber of commerce, I think) and that had a lot of energy and vision behind it. I don't feel like this is it, and I know for sure you can do better! Relax, you know your shit.

      Wish all the luck!

    • RE: NOLA 2: Back in the Vieux

@auspice People expect staff to do all the work, and staff seems to think games should cater to these people. I met and RPd with @ganymede and all of my friends in games. If you log into a game and you can't find a single person to RP with you steadily, your times are either wacky AF, you need to figure a new way to approach things, or you just leave and accept the game is not for you.

Staff should only provide support to things like the Praxis and Consilium, something that serves the WHOLE Sphere.

Anything else? Eh! Go relearn how to have fun.

    • RE: Game Theory: Mortal Horror

I think the most fundamental aspect of a horror game is having a charming setting (for the purposes of characters having bonds with it) that has a sinister/eerie enough overlay to craft your plots (like people being somewhatkindabutnotreally used to weird rumors about cults and sacrifices).

Imo, have your players create at least NPC that matters to their characters upon apping so people can use on plots, and have pages for such NPCs on the wiki. Never saw this be a thing, but I bet it could be effective. Also, once the NPC is created, they belong to staff. 100% no consent.

IMO don't let people grow from teen to adult. If someone wants that RP the can app a graduate-to-be and then do something like that?

    • RE: NOLA 2: Back in the Vieux

@mietze said in NOLA 2: Back in the Vieux:

I think there's also people who enjoy being able to affect the world outside of the private RP room but it's really not something they feel they MUST have to find enjoyment, people who don't enjoy at all knowing that they'll never be able to affect the game world environment beyond the private scale, and those who recoil from the idea of /having/ to do anything with anyone they don't know/outside of their RP room.

Maybe these people have unreasonable expectations out of the hobby as it is today. This is especially true when the people most ENERGETIC in affecting the world around them are OFTEN the obnoxious, uninteresting, buries-staff-with-jobs, giant coterie/pack/motley plot-hogging sort.
