@tempest Would it be worth it to set up a game that had a more streamlined/less detailed approach to traits? I think this sort of question gets asked every now and then, but I'm always down for considering available options for FC-heavy games, especially if there's enough momentum/critical mass to get it realized.

I'm not sure I understand your question, simply because...

As far as I know "streamlined traits" is pretty much the standard around Hero MUs these days. You just write a couple sentences describing the important parts of your character's abilities/etc. Most people seem to have pretty much accepted that as the norm. The recent DC game tried to use actual RPG mechanics, and that was a rare exception, afaik.

@tnp Nothing against the game or anybody there, but the setting just isn't my cup of tea. I've done different eras before (CoFaB was 1920s and a lot of fun), but I just can't get into "superheroes in the 60s".

It's a hero MU, you barely even need code.

This may be a thread topic to tangent into another thread, but I've recently been wondering:

If people who play Superhero games are used to a stat system that is basically one person describing their own powers with possibly a system limiting how far they can go, or at the very least someone needing to approve it, why do people have such a hard time with Fate Core which has something very similar?

Personally, I like the plain old just 'traits' system. You describe what your character can do in a couple systems for each power/skill/etc.

The difference is, generally speaking, a Superhero game is mostly FCs, so there's lots of references/etc out there.

FATE is people making their own characters AND there are actual dice mechanics tied to the traits they come up with, afaik? (The stunts and stuff.)

I also dislike OCs in general. Sue me.

People making their own character out of thin air and just vaguely describing their powers = Problem.

People playing pre-made characters that most everybody is familiar with, and just vaguely describing their powers = Not a problem.

Yes, there are plenty of crappy FC players, but I as a person know or can look up what that character can or can't do.

Somebody hurry up and open a new hero MU, without all the dumb anime and "Buffy/Indiana Jones/Selene from Underworld had a comic book once" crap tacked on.

On the topic of JRPGs, Tales of Berseria has been surprisingly amazing. Like a flashback to the bevy of anime-y RPGs from the PS2 days (not to say it's dated, it's just /so/ reminiscent of those days).

The controls are atrocious on mouse+kb though, just a warning. (Not unplayable, but it'll probably feel awkward.)

Might have to pick up Zestiria down the road and give it a whirl too. Anybody have comments on how Zestiria compares to Berseria?

    • RE: The guy who coded Kishi Kaisei MUX [L5R]

I think @bored nailed the problem pretty well.

Bar RP/etc is a pretty different beast when everybody is supposed to be some honorable samurai guy and not "generic modern 25 year old" or even "generic medieval princess/knight".

I remember having tons of fun with the adventures and stuff on KK, but the 'sit around RP' was generally pretty uninspired. I won't claim to have been amazing myself, as that was my only experience with L5R, so I wasn't exactly a lore-guru.

From my very brief stint on SerenityMU I seem to recall them having a crazy equipment system with custom items and mods and crap.

Very interesting, to the gamer in me.

A horrible nightmare, to the part of me who is familiar with how MUing works.

This is the greatest off season of ALL TIME no questions asked.

Put all those trades together and add the entire NBA rising up to publicly trash talk Donald Trump after Stephen Curry said he wasn't going to the traditional champions' visit to the White House and Trump, being Trump, said they aren't invited then... including LeBron James calling the POTUS a bum and we have peaked.

There will never be an off season like this one.

I missed the Trump basketball crap. I've been seeing the football stuff though.

      I just sigh.

Then the local news runs all these tweets and stuff from local dumbasses about how the players are being disrespectful and blahblah....nobody cares.

If you like JRPGs Trails in the Sky is damn good.

The entire Legend of Heroes series is good. The most recent one out on Steam is Trails of Cold Steel, with 2 on the way soon and 3 in development. Cold Steel is the 11th game in the series, although they can all be played separately, or within their own trilogies. There's a couple of Legends of Heroes games that haven't made it over here though.

Trails of Cold Steel Is also new, but not; came out on Steam in August, but was originally a 360 and PS3 game. It's a good port though.

Be prepared if you pick up any of the Legends of Heroes though to spend a LOT of time in game (main story of Cold Steel and extras clocks in at 84.5 hours, completionist says 111 hours), and lots of anime cut scenes.

Trails of Cold Steel is definitely fun if you like JRPGs. It's very Persona 4-ish (or was 3 the one where you did 'school stuff' between Persona-stuff. I forget).

Recently played through about half of it (if it's actually 85 hours maybe uhh less than half. Was at the visit to the Great Plains place) before my attention drifted. Kind of a recurring thing with me when it comes to video games, nothing against the game itself. The only minor complaint I have was the constant inability to select your party. It made sense in the story, but still bleh.

I got the previous 'trilogy' of Legend of Heroes too, but haven't touched that yet.
