Looking forward to hearing more about this new SAGA game mentioned.

I tried DoD (and its predecessor) so many times, but there was always this overwhelming feeling of being a nobody, something I've never really felt on a WoD game, even when I make a new 10xp newb on a game where the Prince and Primogen Council are all PCs and have 100+ xp.

On the SAGA games there was always this sense of 'eh a new person, who cares, even if you started at level 8, we have these level 12 people who are /massively/ better than you, have all the plots designed around them, and they have no use for you because they can do everything themselves.' I can make a completely useless vampire on a VtR game and somebody will probably still want me around for something or other, even if it's just as a sacrificial pawn.

Do you have custom writeups for the bloodlines, or no? If no, what is your plan there?

Really doubt it's "invasion" in the sense of a "war" as we think of it.

Pretty sure this would be like playing WoD and saying the world has been being invaded by vampires for 1000 years.

For the record, they appear to be okay with non-n52 versions of characters, it just appears to be that the n52 version is assumed to be the 'default', for purposes of making things easier.

Sorry to hear that! There's still toooons of people available, so hopefully you find somebody you like. I think there's at most like 15 characters claimed so far, though admittedly most of them are of the 'flagship' variety.

I could be mistaken (hard to keep track of who's been made yet), but I think the only 'young' people claimed on the chica side are Kara and Cassie.

Seems like a nice crowd so far.

Wanted to add a yay for this. I know wikidot is the staple go-to for hero games, but damn mediawiki is so much better if someone can host it, or is willing to pay for it.

      Wikis are important!

In general the roster builds as people request characters and then idle out before apping or drop soon after (or long after). Usually comic book games don't delete charbits, they just blank them.

I would really like a comic book game that didn't blank charsheets and didn't require you to write your entire character's app "in your own words" including powers, abilities, whatnot.

What a fucking waste of time.

Really a good point. I mean, yeah, yeah, you need to make sure the player knows the difference between Spider-Man and a potato, but let's be honest...Filling in an app doesn't really do that. Pull up comicvine, paraphrase shit, get approved, do whatever you want IC.

      @Arkandel

In my experience with superhero games, I've only seen one with an actual 'roster'. (And it was relatively defunct, to be quite honest. Hundreds of pretty useless names.) Unless @ZombieGenesis says otherwise, I'd probably assume the roster is "dc characters, with a few super mega god tier characters banned/restricted" (then again, this is DC, not Marvel, everybody's on that tier, BA DUM TSS).

Haha, thanks for the update. And I hope you're feeling better!

Didn't want to seem like I'm rushing you or anything, it's just kind of strangely fortuitous. A couple weeks ago, I was practically at the point of wanting to make a comic game from scratch with a friend, just because I wanted a change of pace, but also a 'fresh start' somewhere.

You guys saved me a lot of work! (Work that I was never going to do anyways, to be quite honest. But still!)

maybe getting like 30-50 resources or something if they worked like mad at it. That would be under 2% of the income of the wealthiest great house at the moment, and like a tenth of a percent of some of the Scary Big Bad Organizations. So there's definitely a sense of, 'Bob the Fast Talker is getting rich' from an individual perspective, but from a macro perspective compared to what the powerful organizations are doing, it's pretty mild.

That is definitely good to hear.

@Kanye-Qwest That is a good point, though I guess it would depend on whether there are additional things resources can get you that actually affect your ability to be good at something. EG Advertising, lavish fashion shows, wide distribution and a secure delivery network for your bridal shop may be de rigueur.

I guess the designers should chime in!

Or someone who has played there ...

Last I knew, they are supposed to tie heavily into the yet-to-be-made 'war games' and territory management stuff. I mean, one of the resources currencies is /Military Resources/.

"But in general, fall behind what?"

You're either being purposefully being disingenuous or the +task code has changed a ton since I was active.

The way it felt when I was still actively playing, if you're a noble, you need to be generating resources --because whatever you make, your family gets a copy of. So you either do tasks, or your entire family is going to fall behind all the other families, and then you're fucked if/when another house decides they don't like you and they're all +task spammers. Especially with all the 'NPC soldier'/NPC war stuff supposed to be coming. Hell, perhaps this is wrong, but I was told it costs resources for Noble players to get NPC bodyguards.

I mean sure. If you're just commoner joe the dress maker, you don't need to worry about tasks or resources (and uh I don't even think you have as much access to them in the first place).

It's all good and well to say 'oh people don't need to do tasks! don't be silly!' but...if you aren't, you are basically resigning yourself to be a nobody, because the other people will have way more money/etc than you and it /does/ actually impact several facets of the game.

Somebody said tasks don't generate money anymore. But, if they still generate economic resources...which you can trade for money...how much money is a task worth? Is it still more than a WHOLE GREAT HOUSE makes in a week? Because it was before.

I'd personally much rather just be able to RP building alliances and shit without a coded 'checklist' thing. My opinion of the task system is that it just waters down RP, because people aren't coming to you for RP, they're coming to you to get coded support for their task.

Edit : Further edit. The +task system provides a coded popularity contest and way to circlejerk and promotes mentality you don't really want on an RP game. The game becomes less about roleplaying with other characters, and more about getting your tasks done. Is it any surprise that players like the Gareth-guy that got banned were ALL ABOUT IT? I think there was a Redrain noble who was rabid about tasks that /also/ got banned, but I could be mistaken. Rokhir or something? He and Gareth were both the two biggest parties whining about 'omg when is the task system coming back!?' 'pls! tasks fixed yet!?' 'tasks again when!?' when it got turned off for a day or two, months ago. Not everybody is going to be as blatantly crazy about it as those two, but I feel pretty confident in saying it still severely impacts the way people play the game and the way they think about 'rp'. And I don't mean that in a good way.

Are people still rabid about the +task system, or whatever it was called? And has it been overhauled yet?

I really liked it in theory, but....A large part of why I stopped logging in is due to the fact that it got turned off for like 2 days and a portion of the game's players /would not stop whining about when it was going to be back and how much their PC was being affected/ (meanwhile, I never did a task at all). Coupled with the massive rewards from the system, the way it was being used by people (it appeared to be /incredibly/ easy to complete tasks if you were actually willing to go do that sort of scene), and the fact that I generally dislike 'chore' rp that I have to do to not fall behind other players, it just really killed my interest in the game in general. There's a difference between like politicking RP, getting support, etc. If i'm not doing that, obviously I'm going to not have the same political power as somebody else. Going and meeting people to go 'hey buy my house's wine!' every other day so I'm not poor as dirt compared to everybody else, not my thing.

1 of the 'easy' tasks was getting an /individual PC/ more income than an entire Great House makes from their land income/etc in a week or whatever, and people were doing 1-2 every week. This may just be me grouching, but I also felt the way they were being done was pretty lame. Random nobles negotiating trade deals with other random nobles, neither of who really ICly had anything to do with trade, etc.

      Man. The policies page.

Some of it just feels absurdly overboard nitpicky. Like. /Absurdly overboard/.

Yes, you want NONE of that anywhere on your game, but does the policy page really need to go over literally every little shitty thing somebody has done on a MU once?

"Don't be a dick" covers most of the stuff you explicitly wrote paragraphs about. Bashing by proxy, bad faith debate, fact vs opinion, the bait and switch thing with the 'rape' comment,

There's like 7 different sections that are about consent.

Leave it at 'don't be a dick' and then don't be afraid to bitchslap and ban people who are dicks.

IMO, you don't need to explicitly write out "You're not allowed to rape people on tuesday. You're not allowed to rape people on wednesday. You're not allowed to rape people on thursday."

Really like the look of the wiki, though!
