Five Compacts, 30 Enforcers. You can be Blacklisted by a vote of 4 of 6 of your Societies Enforcers, or 20 of the 30 overall Enforcers.

Yes, though in both cases it is a two thirds majority needed. 4/6 = 20/30 = 2/3. I just think it is weird to call one a majority and mention the need for the second to be a two thirds majority when both in practice have to be two thirds majorities.
Making the statement read that someone could be blacked listed by either a 2/3 majority of their societies enforcers or the enforcers as a whole would not chance how things function and not set up the mindset that the votes needed a different margin when they do not.

      • Every year, The Compact shall appoint 6 citizens from each Society to act as enforcers of the Compact among their own.
      • Members of any Society may be blacklisted by a majority vote of that societies Enforcers, or a 2/3 majority of all enforcers.

Just a quick math related nitpick, with a voting pool of six a simple majority is already a two thirds majority since the smallest majority would be 4-2 which is also a two thirds majority since 3-3 would lack any majority.

      Fashion combat?

Fashion making a difference is not really beyond the pale for RPGs though. Cyberpunk 2020 has a skill for it, Shadowrun has outfits that give bonuses to skills like Etiquette and Negotiation. NWoD has items of clothing and perfume listed as possible equipment modifiers to skills in the base book in the chapter about skills.
I am not into fashion myself as anyone who has seen my wardrobe will quickly attest to, but I don't see it as much different than any other aspect of a game world.

("everyone drinks vodka ALL the time... comrade!").

From my own experience with Russians (limited to professors and international students) that is not all that unbelievable.
One of the high points of my college career was having the Russian professor take the whole class (upper level history class of about 16 people) out for shots after the final, then semi-drunkenly rant about how non-Russian made vodka shouldn't be allowed to call themselves vodka.

Plus in your late 20s you have a lot more mature perceptive on life and the value of not wasting things than most people in the dorms who tend to be in the 18-22 range.

At my uni you had 24 hours from your last final to vacate, this was not always strictly enforced at he beginning of the week but was at the end, cause the RAs couldn't leave til everyone on their floor had.
Doing it the week before would make a lot of sense but from my experience the couple of weeks before finals were filled with finishing projects, end of semester parties and preparing for finals. I mean I never threw anything out because of moving but I also am the child of packrat parents and have the same tendencies, but I can definitely see reasons for some of the "Just toss it." mentality at the time.

Serious question. In the case of like, that comic that is obvs easy to pack and shit, how do you know it was purposeful? That they didn't leave it on accident? I would worry about accidentally stealing something rather than adopting something abandoned.

In this case I asked around for the people remaining if they knew who it belonged to, it was late in the week so only about a third of the folks were left and no one knew anything (we had 36 people living on the floor assuming full occupancy). Not sure how other colleges did it, but at the one I attended each floor had a room clearly marked garbage that had a mini dumpster inside it and one next to it marked recycling which had those various bins. I never took anything that was not left in the room marked garbage.

Do college kids actually do this? Just leave stuff like monitors and TV's and shit that are still worth money, not just junk?

Yes , one year I even found someone threw out the text books. I grabbed them out of the garbage and took them to the book store and got refund money on them. Yes someone turned down just over $100 (in mid-90s money) to not carry an armload of book one block.
I also grabbed a TV that worked fine for years afterward, more cds, dvds, and books than I would care to count. though the oddest thing I got was a random issue of Alpha Flight from 1986, I collect comics so was like ooh shiney but I cannot conceive of the person who would both have a decade old(at the time) comic in a dorm room and decide throw it out rather than move it home.

I miss living in the dorms for this very reason. Since my parents lived about a half hour away I would always pick the last checkout time because that gave me the change to move my junk out, then return and do a run through of grabbing cool junk others didn't want before officially checking out.

I know you might not believe this considering we tend to not agree at all with each other, but I do mean this in a constructive manner. While I believe you and the rest of staff on the game have the best of intentions and goals, it does not matter. I, and I am sure many others reading have heard multiple staffers on multiple games say the same thing and have seen it all end the way it usually does.
Before knowing she was their if asked about FH my answer would have been I know nothing but probably worth a shot to try it. Now if asked about it I would have to tell the person I would recommend they avoid the place. I could do nothing else in good conscience.

Does that sound like a good plan?

No that situation would be horrible but I would still not act. I can hate something but still feel it does not meet my requirement to act. I do not think spreading lies about someone is a good thing and if I was told Joe cheats on his wife I am much more likely to not rp with person telling me that, but as a staffer I would not act against it.

      @Roz
Do people really decide who to rp with based on non game things?
This is not be being a smart ass but an actual question. I couldn't tell you more than the time zone of ninety percent of the folks I rp with. It doesn't concern me. Someone tell me Joe cheats on his RL wife would not get me to avoid RPing with him, because once I cross that line I have to then not rp with any one who works for a World Cup sponsor (list of over 100 multinational corporations), etc.
So yeah I don't consider lies that are not game related to be a big deal, if this makes me an asshole I am remarkably fine with.
Real example As much as I empathize with Surrs roof hole that would not be a reason to not allow She Who Gets Namedropped on a game. (Note there are plenty of other reasons to no allow though.)

@Meg said in MU and Alternate Channels:

So if Player A is making up a lie that is keeping Player B and Player C from playing with Player D, even if it's about their real life, why would you /not/ look into Player A lying and spreading rumors about Player D?

Because that is the level of playing Nanny that I would be comfortable in doing nor would I expect any staff member to do.

I agree with you there I think things that are punishable should be punished regardless of venue. In my first point i even used the example of plotting an unjust pk here as a theoretical example of something that should be punished.

Now as to the reputation I would not punish someone for spreading lies about non-game matters period regardless of the place they did so. I would punish someone for lying about game matters regardless of where they did so. For ex, Joe cheats on his RL wife. Not gonna care. Joe uses OOC info to win, I would look into the matter and either Joe would get talked to about using OOC info or person spreading the story would get talked to about making up lies.

Ahh i didn't get that because my brain would not jump to the conclusion that people would not rp with him because he ran a dog fighting ring rl so the only possible reason i could see for starting that rumor would be to cause staff action. And at no point in the post does it mention the rumor would be started impair Ark's ability to get RP I cannot read what is not there.
And yes someone running a RL dog fighting ring would not deter me from RPing with them.

. If I accuse you of dog-fighting ring organisation on here, but don't do diddly on the game, why should game staff be expected to act? They can act, of course. They don't strictly need a reason to act. But should they?

Why would staff punish Ark running a dog fighting ring at all? that has zero to do with the game as well as being off game. Though if Ark were running a dog fighting ring and discussing it on game I would consider it staff responsibility to prevent the continued use of the game to further and illegal activity.
The way I look at it if it concerns the game than staff has the authority and responsibility to act. Now they should only act in a manner consistent with the offense. For example a statement of not liking someone. Not really something i think staff should act on unless that person is broadcasting the feeling over public channel and then it is more of a not what this thing is for issue than a not like someone issue. Though if me and another player plot pk someone for ooc reasons through private messages on this forum then we should get smacked down for it even though no game staff has control of the forum or it's contents.

My general thoughts on behavior run along the lines of an old saying i heard as a kid.
      Once is an accident,
      Twice is a coincidence,
      Three times is on purpose.
And I would add "and a pattern" the the last one. In general not just mushing or gaming but in life I will forgive almost anyone once, the second time I think about it a bit more but most likely they will get chance number three. If someone does something a third time it becomes what they do and who they are.

I can't speak to this mob incident in particular since I was not there but my money would be onb it being something like @coin described. Rando dude interrupting scene with random npc mob for attention seeking purposes.
the thing is even if dude intends it to be the start of a plot which would be a good thing there is a work of difference between enter the room and saying, "OOC hey i am starting off a plot any mind if I kick it off now." and letting people make decisions based on that and entering the scene and kick starting random crap with out even waiting for a scene set.
I have see it happen the way Ark mentions before on multiple games, pc comes in bleeding to become center of attention, other pcs react including some that go off to look for attackers. Most often attacker are not found no plot is happening victim pc just wants to victim is up.

It is less paranoia and more the pointlessness of it.
I don't give people on the internet info they don't need to fulfill their function in my life,. I have a Facebook but probably put up a status update less than 5 times a year. Mainly it is there as a vestigial organ from college.
I don't think anyone can do major damage with my e-mail addy but unless giving it to them serves a purpose that benefits me why would if give them one. Yes i do on games that i want to play but that will never stop me from calling it a stupid requirement.

Edit to add: And I think I cna handle the internet thing just fan I was here before it had pictures on webpages.

Sadly the only way to not have skills with ginormous areas that are covered such as Crafts, or the worst offender to me, Academics, would be to have ginormous skill list that breaks them out which brings the other bad headache of wow if I want to cover the skill set of someone who passed all their gen eds in college I need a bunch more points then starting characters get.
