Maybe I am an outlier but approval for me on most games is pretty much staff looking at the sheet and stamping approved with little or no conversation at all. The wait comes from waiting my turn in line, my issue is more if that is all approval is going to be automate that shit.
I have no problem with a staffer sitting down and discussing my character with me, hell that would be worth the wait time if that was the approval process.

The general WoD character approval process also involves, generally: (1) looking at a background; (2) checking Breaking Points to make sure they are sensible; (3) reviewing +notes for Merits to make sure they are sensible; and (4) hand-setting XP spends out of CGen. This presumes that the automated CGen checks for pre-requisites, otherwise that's another thing to check. And that could be another thing to check if there are problems with the pre-requisite checks. So, there's going to be staff-involvement -- generally -- above and beyond simply checking point totals.
That might be the theory, but I am pretty sure I have had characters approved without anyone bothering to run a math check. (In fact one place I know didn't do a math scan because I had made a math error and it was not noticed until I noticed and reported it 6 months after my char had been approved)
I definitely agree that communication before approval/cgen between player and staff would be ideal and should happen more then it does, however that is not the situation on the ground on any game I have been to recently. The last time I got the feeling that the person approving me was actually looking over my character besides a quick math scan and error check was Haunted Memories. -
RE: Harassment in VR, there's something we can likely learn from this.
@Insomnia
Lets take sex out of it, lets say I borrow $100 from a friend they do not make me pay it back.
Next time I borrow money, another $100 from a different friend, the second one gets pissed because i don't pay them back, I some how doubt me going Hey Person a didn't make me pay them back will result in the second creditor blaming the first.
In both cases the fault would be mine for not paying back debts just that in one I got away with it. -

That is a good point but also one that paints LeBron as older. Given that he was able to jump straight from St Vincent/ St Mary's high straight to the NBA that means this is his 12th or 13th season.Regular seasons are devalued by the playoff but the also provide the bulk of the income. And baseball gets a bit of a pass from me since they eliminate 2/3 rds of the team in the regular season compared to less then half that the NBA and the NHL do. (14/30 fail to make the post season in both of those leagues.)

I don't think you need to worry about it in that extreme. though as he ages you will see him playing less and less. I mean for a normal person LeBron is still young (31) but for a basketball player he is starting to hit the cusp of old. -

Or the Wolves - Thibs was a great pick, adding a defensively minded guy to work on a young, long roster.
I know this is likely the irrational fan in me talking, but I fully expect Thibs to turn the Twolves into a contender in about 3 more years.

The NBA has always had the tendency to be dominated by a few teams even before free agency existed. Look at the 80s Lakers and Celtics won a combined 8 titles and the two that were won by other teams featured the Lakers in the final. In fact the two years to the decade that the Lakers didn't make the finals it was the Rockets who did from the west to lose to the Celtics.
The only real difference free agency made was changing the jersey LeBron wears in the finals. (And gave us the two year Celtic blip in his Eastern conference reign.)
1980 is also the year the Lakers drafted Magic which his why I think it is a matter have having that one player with transcendent talent, free agency just lets them move around more freely.
The transcendent player does not always win but they do tend to make their teams a regular finals participant. -

@Arkandel said in Is there a basics of CG out there somewhere?:
Sure, and I'm asking - why?
CG is a necessary part of the game, I want all the necessary part of the game on the game. Just like i am fine with policies on the wiki but I also wan them on the game as well.
Do me having CG on the wiki or having policy only on the wiki would be like the bad Copy protection schemes in the old days where you needed to looks codes up in a manual while playing the game, at least that had the understandable reason of attempting to protect profit margin.
When I log on to play the game I want to be able to play the game, not log on to the game, bring up a browser then be able to play the game. -
RE: Is there a basics of CG out there somewhere?
@Arkandel
I know I wouldn't want to cgen on the web. right now I look at the wiki when checking out a game, policies etc, and then rarely if at all.
I mean yes I make a char page for my characters but it never gets updated. (And I do mean never. I have played a char for 3 years and not touched the wiki page after making it.) -
RE: Is there a basics of CG out there somewhere?
@Arkandel
It might just me my character creation style that makes it easy for me. Since before i enter a single command on game I have the character fully made on a sheet of paper in front of me. (I have to do this otherwise I will miss something important like the time I made a werewolf that lacked the skill that was used for two of his gifts, and no matter how much I use a computer I am still 100 times better at noticing errors on paper then I am on screen)
So no matter how odd the command might seem it is just learning it once then banging it out a bunch of times and done. (though i have noticed that the majority of the time it is some variation of +set.) -
RE: Is there a basics of CG out there somewhere?
Maybe I am missing something but are cgen commands hard to figure out?
It might just be my being used to MU things but I have yet to encounter a cgen that the commands were difficult on. The only time I have ever had an issue code wise in cgen was a place where by tendency to put a space after the number I was setting the stat to caused issues. -

I'm just curious how they're going to do the crossovers, with LoT being in a different time, and Supergirl being in a different reality.
Well neither time travel nor reality hopping are strangers to superhero stories. From what I heard they will keep the big crossover events to one a season and that seems doable. After all we had Flash pop over to Supergirl last year.
My guess for this year is that it will be facilitated by Zoom. He is being built as a big villain and time traveler on LoT and he has the obvious connection to Flash. It should be too hard to explain him dragging in SG with some mumbo jumbo about his method of time travel breaking down barriers between the realities, Arrow and already appeared this season in LoT and can be drug in via connection there or with Flash and there you go.
Note before people say anything about spoilers I know nothing that is just logical conjecture. -
RE: 2016-2017 Basketball Thread
If we look below the title contenders, I am really hoping for the Timberwolves to make a real run at the playoffs.
Not sure if they will end up in the dance or not but I think they have a real shot at the 8th spot.
I know they will do nothing there but given the improvements they have been making I really want them to get at least 4 games of playoff experience for the young guys. -

If I get married, which is a pretty big if at this point. I will have the ultimate revenge wedding. All in Latin and as long as I can make it.
I have had to sit through so many this is when I get my payback.
Granted I have yet to be even close ot getting married so that about as likely and my when I become a millionaire ideas. -
RE: RL Anger
@surreality
The solution I have see for that most of the time is Ceremony at the church. Then pictures for the bridal party and about two hours of dead time for everyone else then reception at a different location.
though honestly I would not be at that ceremony either, my other rule for attendance is a personal invitation either written or verbal from one of the people getting married.
If you don't invite them to the ceremony then you have no obligation, but i stand by if you invite to the ceremony then you do have an obligation for the reception. And yes people do sometimes invite to the ceremony and not reception, which is what I am against.
How people get to the ceremony and reception is on them, paying for guest to attend unless a parent of one of the two primaries is ridiculous.Edit What @sg initially complained about and what I agree with was being invited to the ceremony and not the reception that is ass.
What @surreality seems to be talking about is people not getting an invitation to the ceremony and then showing up anyway which is complete and utter ass. -
RE: RL Anger
@surreality
I am part of a big catholic family that is why I insist on the reception. When I think wedding I thing sweating in a church in summer in a suit while the ceremony clocks in at at least an hour usually closer to two.
Or the ultimate wedding horror story. A male from my large Catholic family married a female form a large Lutheran family. The couple was fine with a mixed ceremony and it being quick, the grandparents on each side weren't so on a very hot a humid July Saturday we sat through an entire Catholic Ceremony, exited the church then reenters to sit through an entire Lutheran ceremony, total elapsed time was 3 hours. Sadly I was not old enough to drink at the reception but the food was excellent.
I am not an asshole, I would politely decline without the reception, but decline I would. And yes this policy has lead to some hurt feeling of folks getting married, I can deal with that. -

Can't watch Flash I really want to especially now that they have introduced Jesse Quick ,and Jay Garrick has appeared, but I can't hear the name Barry Allen with out the entirety of my giving a shit draining from my body.
Arrow I watch off and on but it has never quite made the jump into the set aside time to see it list for me. -

@ThatGuyThere A lot of people do, actually. I know a lot of folks who don't want to exclude anyone from the ceremony,
That boggles my mind, to me getting invited to the ceremony but not the reception would be like being invited to set up decorations to the party but not to attend the party.
By the time I finished college I had been to probably close to one hundred weddings in my life between friends and two large extended families.
The ceremony is the pain you sit through to get to the fun, I would rather be left off both then not get the good part after dealing with the other. I would not even pretend to consider going to a ceremony without the reception attached. -
RE: Good TV
@Bobotron
I am sure we will see him eventually my initial guess was season 3 and I stand by that.
after all no other reason I can think of the have Martian Manhunter using that Hank Henshaw name unless you plan to introduce the real Hank Henshaw as a villain down the road.
I like the first season but so far the second has really hit it out of the park for me.
Same with Legends of Tomorrow. -
RE: RL Anger
@Cupcake You get to save money but not getting them a gift?
UGh, one of my coworkers invited the whole department to her bridal shower and her wedding, but not the reception where the booze will be. Like come on!
What kind of monster invites you to the ceremony and not the reception?
In a case like that i would crash the reception, with out a shred of guilt.
Though it could be worse, it could be one of those weird protestant receptions where there but punch and cake but no real food or booze.
