So just like real golf then?

@WTFE
I absolutely love Republic of Rome. Sadly i never got to play it often since it was harder to find players for, or perhaps most of the other folks in the group preferred Diplomacy.
For the longest time Republic of Rome was my favorite board game, it still is in my top 3.
Mostly off topic but i have to cheer that Diplomacy was mentioned.
Did not discover that game until college but played it a ton there.
That game is responsible for some of my longest friendships, at least a couple brawls in dorm hallways, and one breakup. I am not sure I would ever play it again but I am glad it had a part in my life.

@ThatGuyThere I agree that the skirting of mechanics set in place to limit character abilities is technically cheating. In a private scene where there's no PvP involved, no real outside consequence and everyone is on board with it? I see less of a problem with it since it's not done to screw anyone or make illicit gains.
I agree with this, if everyone involved is fine with dispensing with a mechanic then it should go for that scene, just like I have frequently seen with other things, however if someone agree to getting rid of paradox then they really don't have a leg to stand on when they then complain Mage is over powered.
To me getting rid of paradox my consent of all those involved is like using a cheat code on a video game. Sure it is fine but then don't complain that the game was too easy.
@Arkandel said in Mostly Mage, Partially Descent Mux:
don't make the automatic assumption they are either bad players or cheaters.
Then what term would you use for players that ignore mechanics designed to limit their characters abilities?
Edit to add: Yeah OWoD paradox had teeth, NWoD paradox is not really a big deal unless you are in a scene where you think you will need to cast quite a bit you can just take the bashing damage and move on. Have not read 2nd edition of NWoD mage yet so no clue if they gave it teeth again or not.
I side with Gany on this I would view a Mage player that ignores paradox the same way I would a vamp player that ignores vitae expense to waking up or a werewolf that ignored the social penalties of having Primal Urge.
Though while she used the term awful player I would take it one step father and use the term cheater.
Granted I do not see paradox as a huge leveler though it is part of the two pronged limit on Mage stuff, the second being mana availability which is also usually not a thing on mushes.
@Arkandel
I never said they weren't asshats for their opinion that is what the phrase "that is on them" implies.
I just prefer asshats to openly self identify because it makes them easier to identify and avoid.
Yes they totally are asshats.
And yes I totally support their right to be asshats both for the philosophical reason of free speech and the practical reason it making it easier for me to avoid them.
@Arkandel
I agree with this completely, if it is just people voicing an opinion no matter how crudely they express it or asinine their my be, I will say good for them that is their right and if that is the image they want to present well that is on them but I will never say they shouldn't voice it.
The second it crosses the line between voicing an opinion into threats or even worse actions like stalking then I am 100 percent in favor of those folks getting arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but that also then no longer is an issue of fanbase entitlement but of criminal behavior.

I presume that you've seen the new Dr. Freeze in Batman: the Animated Series, specifically the episode Heart of Ice, which is, I think, Season 1, Ep. 12. Watch that, and you tell me if Arnold came close, because that is who Dr. Freeze is now, in the hearts and minds of a generation of Batman lovers.
Oh I fully admit there are a lot of pro Freeze people. I just am not one of them. He is not even in my top 5 of cold based DC villains. (Not that any one cares but that list would be: 1. Captain Cold, 2. Icicle 3. Golden Glider 4. Coldsnap 5. Killer Frost. )
The difference is I do not say the freeze fans need to "lighten the fuck up."
They can feel free to complain about the Arnold and earlier versions all they want, it just won't change my opinion.
Depends on the Gamora stuff you read, she was the moral core of Warlock and the Infinity Watch back in the day; a very violent often ignored and exasperated moral core but moral core none the less.
Drax was unlike any version that is true but I was just happy to get a semi-serious version of Drax rather then the brain damaged one form his first resurrection.
@Roz
To me that is what I think made the Guardians movie. The picked characters is was very hard to fuck up. For example Groot. The core of Groot is big tree guy that says Groot. He is also a uber genius but can't communicate but that is hard to convey in a visual medium so it is nearly impossible to screw him up for a movie.
the rest tend to follow suit with not having a large set of Cannon to deal with as far as fan expectation.
The only one I really thought was a lot different from the comic version was Starlord and yeah they basically turned the character to a joke.
And don't get me started on Yondu, though that is easy enough to mentally right out since movie Yondu could easily just be an ancestor with the same name as Real Yondu.
The rational is so flawed I don't get it. So it's better to call the cops vs just saying, "Dude, smoking in here isn't allowed?"
In my opinion yes, though I would first talk to the manager of the establishment and if that had no results find somewhere else to shop before jumping to involvement of the police.
But I would call the cops before deciding I was societies hall monitor. Honestly if someone came over to talk to me about something like that my only response would be telling them to go fuck themselves.
And it has yet to be established if that was against the law in the grocery store it was in. Some states it is. Some it is not including the one I reside in.
@ThatOneDude said in RL Anger:
@ThatGuyThere As far as the issue I could care less I'm more interested in the responses I read after the post.
So smoking in a non-smoking area shouldn't be an issue and the person asking / telling the smoker about this fact is "wrong".
Yes unless that person is somehow authorized to do that either by owning or being an employee of the owner or being a government employee acting in an official capacity.
The person "in the right" by law and by normal expectation "is wrong" for pointing out and alerting someone that is most likely in the wrong of that fact.
They are not in the right though at least in my city, the ordnance against smoking in no way states the non-smoker should go over to inform the smoker of the law.
there are procedures in place, if someone is smoking where they are not legally able to call the owner or manager of the facility hell call the cops and get them to write a ticket. Call the city council and mayor and urge stronger laws against it. All these things are just fine, becoming the anti-smoking vigilante who must correct the evil doers makes you a tool.
Out of curiosity I did some research and found on http://www.qorpak.com/pages/packaging-regulations-united-states
Allergen labeling has also been a requirement since 2006. The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Act not only requires disclosure if the product contains potential allergens like milk, fish, eggs, shellfish, peanuts, wheat or soybeans, but a notification if the product was made or packaged in a facility using any of the aforementioned allergens.
So there we go on the allergens issue. the FDA site seems to agree but is horribly designed so I might have missed something on it.
I'm deathly allergic to cats and guess what, I don't go places there are cats. If a cat were in the grocery store I might not say something like that lady did but I don't see how if I did how it would make me "wrong"?
Would you still say I'm wrong if there were laws against animals in grocery stores in my state?
Yes it would. Unless you are a member of law enforcement it is not your job to enforce laws.
If the lady "allergic" to dog had went to talk to the store manager I have no problem with that. Hell if she had asked Cupcake and dog to move to a different part of the store so she could grab some items near them again no problem with that, trying to guilt someone else into not bringing a dog in where the store allows it makes that person a dick.
@Thenomain said in RL Anger:
I assume (bad on me, I know) that the whole "this stuff is made in a place that does peanuts" is a law and/or regulation. I know like hell that "if someone asks for the detailed breakdown of your food you have to give it to them" is.
@Ganymede knows more then I do but a lot of the what needs to go on food packing regulations are FDA rules not actual laws. Though in common practice they can be close to the same result they are not actually the same.
@Thenomain
If I was running a business I would look up the fines for breaking those laws and that would be the factor.
Trust me many bars in the town i live in have found every loophole to public smoking laws to get it to happen on patios etc, one even built a deck for that purpose.
Business owners will put profits firsts 9 times out of every 10.
On the topic of allergies, if you have allergies it is on you to avoid them. I am allergic to coconut, I could die if I eat it. It is 100 percent on me to avoid coconut ,ask if it is things etc, It is no other person on this planets job to help me avoid it. I am very thankful when they do, for example a friend is planning to have people over for dinner this evening she asked over a multi-text if there were any food allergies. One of me friends informed her of mine before I replied. I am very thankful for this and expressed that, but my no means was he obligated to do this.
I see an allergy to pet dander or smoke to be the same way it is part of your job as an adult to take care of that sort of thing for yourself.
Now i do think product manufacturers have a duty to not when common allergens on in their products but that seems to be the standard operating procedure these days.
From a business perspective I would consider the factors involved when making a decision most likely going the way that would cause the most sales because you know that is the point of the endeavor.
@Cupcake the woman involved was completely in the wrong trying to tell you what to do. I would ignore her bring the dog in as long as it is alright with the store.
And yes that sort of passive aggression is rampant in the Midwest. Having grown up there i credit/blame it for my tendency towards blunt confrontation. I got so sick of dealing with that sort of crap in my formative years I will not have it now.
Big one first
Comic Books.
Roleplaying games especially odd small press ones that show up on the used shelf at the local game store if i haven't heard of it and it is under $15 I guarantee I will go home with it.
Wrestling stuff, mostly magazines but also other items.
And while I don't really call it a collection since I mainly got them when I was working at a factory and allowed to listen to head phones on the job, so spent 40 hours a week listening to music. I have a metric crap ton of CDs, mostly punk and ska, with some other stuff thrown in.

I'm sorry -- did you just say that Arnold did Dr. Freeze justice in Batman and Robin? If so, then you need to check your personal criteria severely.
No I said the movie got the core of his character right. Though honestly I thought Arnold did an acceptable job I mean it's Mr. Freeze, to me the character is nothing more then a Gotham D-lister ranking around the likes of Calendar Man, The Firebug (Note I do mean Firebug not Firefly the essentially identical character but with a better visual design) and Crazy Quilt.
Though I do apologize for mentioning Batman and Robin as it is off topic in this thread being neither good nor new.
