If I ever played a Pern game and had a Dragon I would so have it as an object and just tool around in that thing like a 'dyne back in the old days on DM.
I now it is really unnecessary but for some reason I always thought vehicle code was neat and fun to play with.

RE: The 100: The Mush
I didn't play on this game but I do know the pattern of the couple that ran it.
This is not the first instance of it not have I ever heard anyone attribute to them the desire not to break the pattern.
So while I would never say they shouldn't make a game, I firmly am in the "More game good" camp. However if you as a player think their next project will be different from their last two you are likely delusional.
It is up to each player to decide weather or not that makes the game something they want to get involved in, but one of the definite good results of places like this is having that pattern being known and the information out there so perspective players can make informed choices.Or to put in in the terms of a friend of mine, "The roller coaster don't change it is the same ride every time, but that don't mean it isn't fun." He was talking about dating an ex wife again, though I think the point equally applies to games run by familiar staffers.

RE: Plotted versus plotless scenes
Misadventure sums up pretty well why I avoid +events style PRPs for the most part.
They can be great stories and with the right runner wonderfully fun, but a lot of the time it feels disjointed compared to all the other RP done on that character, since a lot of the time your PC is there with complete IC strangers often doing something with no real connection to your character. To be they become Bar RP with dice. I don't mean that as a negative, as long as it doesn't become the primary thing I enjoy a good Bar RP scene and that can lead to more things but my itself it serves the purpose of an enjoyable scene and that is about it. (Possible new term Quick dine rp?) -

You got a +1 for the Shade reference, good work. -
RE: Necessary tools for running plots as a non-staff player?
I know Fallcoast as +comm which is like +job only designed for player use for plots. I know players can add other players to it and that +comms can be merged since for one recent thing two players in the group started +comms on the same issue nearly simultaneously.

RE: Plotted versus plotless scenes
One of my favorite plots that I ever ran came out organically.
It started out as a scene in a bar. Me and the other player were bored so we decide to spice things up with a bar fight with npcs. The dice decided to hate my char so he ended up injured, but not so bad as to require hospitalization. I figured this was the end. Get into a social scene with my chars motley I pose being injured cause he hadn't had time to heal up. One of the more fight-y members decided that revenge was in order. OOCly I agree to run a revenge story for the rest while ICly my char recovers. Because now it was a group of supers hunting something rather then a random barfight I gave the now not random NPCs some abilities and back up. revenge is gained but since the pothers are having fun I threw out clues that some dark power was behind the overly aggressive street gang and boom plot went on for a few months. -

I just pick the one that looks good form the outside or if i am feeling timid fast food.
Had great meals, had some bad meals with this method but since I eat 21 of them a week I am willing to let a few slide. -
RE: Plotted versus plotless scenes
I think staff has little to do with the actual amount of plot. Staff run plots are wonderful but pretty much ever mush I have been on including DM way back in the day most plot were player run, the term PRP was never used but they folks who RP together a lot would get together and someone would be like Hey lets do this. And Plot would happen.
Now things are a lot more organized which I can see the pros and cons of but the majority of plot is still in the hands of the players.
I haven't noticed a large trend one why or the other but then I have also tended to avoid most of the +event sort of random PRPs anyway so I wouldn't notice a lack of those numbers. -

As some one who mostly plays on WoD games I wholeheartedly support the not have an OOC room position. -

I can understand trusting word of mouth, nothing will get to to try or not try a place faster then the opinion of someone I know. However I would never bother with Yelp, the the thought of the opinions of random internet folks on a restaurant or other business is bizarre to me. I mean I will check out the Better Business Bureau and other things like that on a company but never Yelp. -
RE: Game Death
I don't think having a large number of players is all that important though I do feel you need a minimum level to get a critical mass both to keep RP moving and fun and to provide a base for new people to add onto, while I think what number this base is might change based on opinion I know if I log onto a game and only see a small number of people on and always the same ones I will likely not join opposed to someplace else that seems more alive. In my opinion the necessary number of players is somewhere between 10 and 20 total, not necessarily logged in at once.
Note my number is based on players not characters. -
RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
I love the +meetme command in all its forms but yeah it will pretty much kill grid wandering for large majority of the players.
I know i could go on for a fair bit of time on the neat spots on the Dark Metal grid and I haven't been on that game in a decade.
I can visualize the grids of some other games from back in the day fairly well like Tartarus and that game has been gone two decades.
I am on Fallcoast most nights and I have no real clue about the grid, +meetme while a wonderful thing does devalue grid knowledge so like any other devalued skill people will stop working to develop it. -

This looks very interesting to me. I even have a concept percolating in my head definitely let us know when it is up and running.

@Roz Don't see the point of your quote, I mean why would you just repeat exactly what I'm saying?
On the off chance you are being serious and not a troll.
Human communication is not a science. So while you did not directly as for the information, your expressed curiosity while the subject was being talked about which to people with even the most basic social skills is seen as a request for more information hence asking. So yes you did not use the dreaded incantation of "Can I see your sheet?" but you also most definitely asked. -

It'd be a really neat plot... but it would require starting in media res. So I'd have to control things to the extent of 'Things happened and now you're in this situation.' I've been uncertain about doing it because I don't know how people would feel about it.
I have found this works best if you just ask the players before the scene starts, hey for this to work I have to get you guys all t this point anyone mind? It lets those players that object opt out with out a fuss and lets the plot start as needed.
It is also polite, I know that is asked before hand i would have no issues but if a storyteller started a scene with something like out of the blue I would nope right out of there. -

Considering the line on the home page under the Mildly constructive is:

Scotch is one of those odd alcohols like wine where I only like the cheap stuff. Give me expensive scotch or wine and will grudgingly drink it but I actually enjoy most "well" scotches. Same with wine I have found Carlo Rossi is my favorite and it comes in giant cheap jugs.

RE: General Video Game Thread
I started gaming with consoles, Artari 2600 way back in the day so to me joystick or controller feels natural for games. I don't mind using a mouse as a controller for things like Baldur's Gate where you could do most things without a key board but my preference will always be for controllers.

Niantec isn't really at fault and I don't see how anyone could possibly think they are.
If you are driving, don't fucking play PokemonGO. Also, don't text. I mean, it's the same thing. Has anyone sued phone companies for enabling texting while driving?
Not sure on the texting thing, but I know companies have been sued when products have been misused and it resulted in harm. Not sure what the success rate is on those types of cases.
