    • RE: Pirates and Swashbuckling

I really like the 7th Sea mechanics in theory but I have not played them so that might not be saying a whole lot.
As far as mechanics I am not picky, though I would vote against Savage Worlds as it is literally my least favorites system I have played. I have read worse but they were obviously bad so I never played them.
To me Savage worlds was not light enough to be a mechanically light narrative focus game and not robust enough to be fun to tinker with so just it the middle valley to be a a chore to deal with that slowed down the actual story.
I like GURPS and have played it a descent amount but I think it could be hell on a MUSH, kinda of like HERO system, fine for a table top when you are in the mood for a lot of crunch but on-line where most of the scenes have no or minimal rolling a lot of work for not much result. Also all the people that complain about WoD cgen being difficult would never make it through creating a GURPS character.

      @icanbeyourmuse
I appreciate the sentiment but I honestly do not have the time to add a character to the mix i am playing right now.

Edit to add, Quite a bit of real world piracy was done along the rivers of Europe. Most notably that of the Vikings but also among the groups that followed. The ocean piracy of the Pirates of the Caribbean and such happened and have quite along Golden Age but for most of history pirates have mainly been a rivers and coasts thing.

Not a lot of TS? Aren't there people who play courtesans?

She did not say not a lot of TS just not more so then anywhere else.
I played there for a bit have have to agree, I mean TS is not hard to find if that is what you are seeking but I could say that exact same thing about any mush I have logged on to.

I don't know of any game looking but you might try Roll20. I know I have checked out the place and seen lots of games looking for players for OTT. I never actually tried one so no idea of the quality or how well the site works from a technical side though.

    • RE: Capped XP vs Staggered XP?

I am against caps but I am fine with the xp slowing down to a trickle, usually I am sitting on a bunch anyway, but the hard cap mean that what you hit it your characters story is over, they can no longer grow, even in minor ways given how most systems work. The example I always thing of in a game where I hit the cap, no biggie I was very happy with where my character was mechanically. Then a few months down the road an ic situation popped up where he would want to learn Spanish. Not something big and flashy just for ic reasons wanted to learn the language. The system that was used has Languages as skills but since i was at the cap I could not learn it. Which was fine I knew the policy but still it pretty much meant the end of me playing that char.

It is a rare thing that I agree 100 percent with something Arkandel posts but this one of those occasions.

Jut a quick note, the salary cap rules are not changing. The number is just skyrocketing because the figure from the newest TV deal is huge compared to the last one, barring a new CBA the formula for figuring it will be the same.

If it is set in Vermont, who want to make three brothers two of which are named Darryl and don't talk?
Sorry loves the show as a kid and to be that is forever what Vermont will be.

Carmelo's prime is long over. His career will last a while longer but he is definitely sees his best days far in the rear view.
Thunder have a huge depth issue as has been shown each year for the last three. If Durant and Westbrook stay healthy they can contend if either goes down for any length of time the best they can hope for is the bottom half of the playoffs. Even with Durant and Westbrook healthy I don't seen them higher then the 4th best team in the West. though a good run of luck could get them to the WCF or the finals. Granted if they were in the East I think it would be them and Cleveland in the conference finals.

Any team that puts LeBron in his prime out on the floor is likely to win it all. ANY TEAM.

No they are likely to get to the finals. LeBron is a legit top 5 ever player but like Jerry West before him he tends to top out at the finals and not with the championship. LeBron is currently 2 - 4 in the finals. and given the strength of the West likely to face a better team then his own there each year.
Now given that the East is and will continue to be for the foreseeable future rubbish he will be in the finals again, will he win, well that all depends on the match up.

Gah, are we back on the name thing?
In the other thread this is how you deal with it.
Player Y makes Catriona, Player x makes Catriona Jones and makes a one word alias for ease of logging on, mailing, pages, all the other things. Then Player X and Y both don't act like asshats.
If players X or Y fail at the last step bring down the banhammer. Problem solved.
If people get consistently pissy over names, which would be more then going gee I usually use name but it is taken, I really have no words.

Old WoD instead of new but I will just be happy to see Changeling the Dreaming 20th anniversary come out in my life time. Preferably before i am too deep in senility to read it.

I never use the same name in different places. though that does lead to some amusing things. Like total strangers thinking you are their best friend til you say,
Me : No offense but I don't think we know each other.
Them : Weren't you Name at other game.
Me : Nope first time I have used name. then
      Them : Embarrassed apology
      Always good times.

Thank goodness for that. Don't remember much abut that game and I think i have the book still somewhere. I by almost any Superhero rpg. I remember it being a rather meh setting coupled with horrible mechanics but I have drank and slept a lot since I last opened that book.

    • RE: Gateway to MUX Entry

I could not handle forum rp from the sound of it.
I just don't have the patience for it, I mean i am fine with the pose speed of MUSHing for the most part but then I realize it takes 6 hours to get something done and am like ugh.
I am not even sure i want to think about how long combat on forum rp would take. I mean I remember timestops that have lasted days in mushing.

Most of the difficulties with making the transition from forum to MU is that people who play on forums are used to a much slower pace.

Slower as in pose speed or plot movement? Or both? Never did the forum rp thing, was recruited to mushing via college gaming club, so never tried much of the other online options.

I was gone from the Reach before Ashur was staff, so have no personal feelings in this.
The one thing I want to say and always think in cases like this is simple, the apology is a good first step but the thing that really matters is to modify your behavior so that the mistakes don't happen again the same way in the future. I wish Ashur the best of luck with that and hope that is his genuine intent.

    • RE: ShadowRun 5E ... 2050

While I think automated opponents could be used in some text based scenarios . For example if you were running a meta-plot where the place was being invaded by cthulloid ickyness, having a few monsters dropped to random places on grid now and again. (Yes i know a large section of MUSH players would hate this.)

For Shadowrun I really don't like the idea, the main reason is one Lithium mentioned prep work for the run. Never mushed SR but I know in the tabletops i have been a part of Prep work can often take longer then the run and is almost always a big factor in the success of the run. To be able to handle that sort of thing you would need to code an AI a=on the level that we have not achieved yet. Not just MUSHers have not achieved yet but technology in general.

Ok since you didn't answer the first time. Name one instance on any WoD game old or new where you used Allies in a matter that made any difference?
I hardly drank any Kool-aid, look at my posts on the other threads on RfK I argues quite about against things I did not like. But I will also give credit to things I liked.
