    • RE: Star Wars: Insurgency

Why are they on Corellia? See prior posts about needing financers, supporters, and quietly getting the planet on the side of the Rebellion. This is taking place pre-Empire. Leia is not the leader of the Rebellion yet and Luke is just a half trained Jedi (if that) who pulled the trigger on the Death Star.

As for activity, we also staff Marvel: 1963. We have a strict activity policy and we /have/ applied it to staff alts. The same will go for this game. Luke is being played by Caper who is @tangent here. He also plays Cap and some others on M:63. He is not an attention whore as I think every single player there will attest to.

I get it. SW games have a bad rep, especially ones with FCs. Been there, done that, gotten fucked not in a good way. We're not going to repeat all their mistakes. We might make brand new ones but we do learn from history.

    • RE: Marvel: 1963

      Just posted to Announcements:

Hey folks. After talking it over, staff has decided to make a small change to the game. We will now accept DC characters as well as those of other comic companies. Okay, maybe not so small. There's a couple catches though.

Just like with Marvel, some characters will be banned. We're not making up a list and will take it on a case by case basis. Others will be restricted.

Just like with Marvel, characters will need to fit into the 1964 era and the game's theme.

Also, just like with Marvel, characters will need to fit into the Marvel universe. Yes, you heard that right. We're not merging universes. There's no Gotham and never has been a Gotham. Batman will need to fit into NYC somehow. Oa will need to deal with the Shi'ar Empire. And power levels will need to be scaled to Marvel which, generally, is lower than than of DC. Obviously, in a lot of cases, this will need consultation with staff but we'll be happy to do that with you. We think this will add a lot of possibilities to the game and believe the effort will be worth it.

Lastly, just as an FYI, no staffer is going to be apping a non-Marvel character for 2 weeks from today. First choice is all yours.

@kay I'm not sure if this falls under the 'tree' model but I really dislike grid rooms within grid rooms. And by that I mean if you go to South Central Bumfuck and then there's an exit to Main Street which then has the buildings and houses and such. I can never remember how to get anywhere.

      Heralds of Valdemar

I'd love a Valdemar game. But Mercedes Lackey has forbidden them. Not sure if that's changed at all.

However, you could have a Blue Rose game which is based on the 'romantic fantasy' genre that is Valdemar.

Well, if you're making knishes, you need to know how to make latkes too.

      Potato Latkes (pancakes)

      1 1/2 lb potato - finely grated
      1 1/4 cup onion - finely chopped
      2 eggs - beaten
      1/2 cup flour
      1 cup matzo meal
      3 tsp salt
      1/4 tsp pepper
      1/2 tsp baking powder

      1 Tbl chicken fat (optional)
      cooking oil

Note: adjust potato/onion ratio to your taste.
Press potato in a strainer to remove excess water
      Combine all well
Heat oil and chicken fat in skillet till sizzling
      Form patty out of mixture
Fry in oil till golden brown on each side
      Remove to paper towel
      Eat while hot
Good with a dollop of sour cream. Apple sauce isn't bad either.

      Notes:
Check Jewish section of supermarket for matzo meal
Chicken fat can be excluded but improves the flavor

How to make chicken fat (schmaltz):

Remove fat from raw chickens/pieces: small bits of skin should be included
Freeze fat till you've got about 8 ounces
Chop a small onion and garlic clove(s)
      Season with 1/2 tsp salt
      Add fat/skin and simmer

Fat will be rendered into a liquid
Simmer for 15 minutes or so to get it well seasoned
      Strain into a jar
Refrigerate for later use: stays a long time
Eat leftover skin and onions for a yummy, artery clogging snack (gribines)

@roz said in Hello MSBites! Grade your administrators.:

Leave ad threads for the ads, ad updates, and maybe links to discussion posts elsewhere on the forum. Either lock it (if the functionality exists) or delete extraneous posts.

Yes. After the initial ad post, lock it. A mod can create a Q&A thread in Mildly Constructive and a Game Review thread in the Hog Pit and link both of them in the ad itself.

People can have the choice of going to read the reviews which can be positive or negative. The Q&A should be only for exactly that: Q&A.

And no moving posts. If someone crosses the line outside the Hog Pit, warn them and delete the post. If they continue, ban them for increasing amounts of time. If you're going to moderate the board, you need to moderate it. That means consequences for violations. Theoretically, everyone here is a relatively intelligent adult and should be able to follow simple rules. Or failing that, at least learn from being punished.

    • RE: Holiday Recipe Exchange

@Auspice That recipe is from an actual NY kosher Jewish deli that's been around for over 70 years. Happened to stumble across it channel surfing and it was Jewish recipe episode on some cooking show.

ETA: making schmaltz is a bit of a pain in the ass but it really does improve the flavor 10 fold. And it stays forever in the fridge once you've made it.

@Alamias It is very, very obvious that he's played the games because he nails Geralt exactly. You can't get that kind of characterization just from reading a script or a book. They better pay him whatever he wants because he is now the defining Geralt.
