@Arkandel said in Sin City Chronicles:

So, aside from our customary back-and-forths, a couple of questions for @tragedyjones :

      1. What are you thinking to do different this time than your last project(s)? That is, what's cool about this project?

      2. Is this going to be a sandbox environment or are you thinking to focus on narrating a longer arc (or arcs) of metaplot?

Kinda just ignoring everything else in this thread for now, but:

For #1 - The obvious differences are the scope of the game, aiming to provide as many gamelines (not all, sadly) but to make it work together in a pie and not a bowl of ingredients.

For #2 - Yes, I am working on that as part of the main reason to even be doing this again.

I think maybe if staff gives players a little more trust, it could help. Or it could destroy a game, but there will always be new games, eh?

      Re, PC Rivalries:

Perhaps a board or wiki or something announcing people, uh, looking for rivals? Maybe even make it a semi-official thing, where as someone is designated as your OOC nemesis, and you get reward X for thwarting them, and that reward is milkable (including more RP) but if you just, idk, KILL them, the flow is cut off.

Especially for a Vampire game, having a nemesis is fun.

@Thenomain, requesting one (1) +ST command that does what Ark suggested!

      @Bobotron

Part a history of long term OOC distrust of other players, and part a long term OOC distrust of players from staff.

@Arkandel The idea about possibly allowing players to alter descriptions, and of allowing them to be STs in general, is appealing to me.

Maybe even just have a policy where, in any scene of X or more players, they may designate (or just agree on a volunteer) to act as a Storyteller/GM for the scene?

Apparently the new Windows 10 update has made my access to the VPN I use to work off-site "spotty" at best and "nonexistent" at average.

    • Innovations to the form (Crowdsourcing?)

I've been in this game "for srs" since maybe 2011, I suppose? A stint in the 90s and then a little in the mid-aughts, but mostly since 2011.

And I know a constant question people ask, is: What is GAME X going to do differently. What CAN be done differently? What SHOULD be done differently?

So the first part of this post, is going to be me spitballing some ideas as to what I feel could and should be done differently, and then asking for others ideas.

      • Grid Design - Part of me feels that a pre-made, pre-described grid is... a waste. Many players eschew the room descriptions, and many prefer to use +temprooms, RP rooms or private builds. How much is a minimum necessary grid design for a city? The sprawling layouts of DM or even HM are, imo, dead.

      • An End to Bar-P - I have long ranted against random social banter RP, slice of life stuff, when that is all I can find. It is something I personally feel should be used as a downtime thing between active story

      • Homework - Some games thrive on this, some entirely balk at the idea. But in general, how much effort is fair to ask of your players? Is background too much? Scene tracking? How can we streamline this process as well. Clearly automatic logging is not something most people, or anyone, wants.

      • Making things matter - How do you make what happens logical, consistent, and important without dedicating a small team to it? How do you ensure that the firefight that happens in one neighborhood actually impact the lives of the characters who live there but were not logged in at the time? How can we establish continuity of Non-Player characters between stories, characters, players, and scenes?

@Tempest has every right to be wary, especially given my personal history. Like my sig says, this isn't my third rodeo, I've tried, failed, succeeded and everything in-between in this area.

And I do like the attention, it feels good. Not going to apologize for being human.

That said, on to @Arkandel's actual question. For on-the job staff, I have a handful of volunteers, but I don't believe any of them currently have a MSB account. They all have experience staffing, and staffing with me, from TR to Reno to BITN and the like. My "core team" includes my usual cadre of consultants (@Coin @skew @Thenomain).

Another lesson I have learned in doing this too many times, is you can have a solid core group pre-arranged and shit the bed a lot faster than if you have a solid idea and then add in good people.

I don't know if that is the answer you want, but it is the truth.

On a more serious note, I am interested in folks who are smart about Beast and Mage to help me with some mechanics, as well as those who know Forsaken 2E better than I do. Requiem I have down solid.

Fallout. Pick either the setting of one of the main games and jump forward/backwards 10 years or so, or come up with an original setting. Can utilize multiple races, possibly use a class based system. A mixture of survival, social, exploration, and adventure.

    • Sin City Chronicles

What have you been up to, TJ, you may ask? Well, I am moving soon and working and shit but besides that, here is something you may care about:

Sin City Chronicles is a Multi-User Shared Hallucination utilizing multiple Chronicle of Darkness Gamelines to tell a variety of stories in a modern horror setting. Sin City Chronicles will be set in modern day (night) Las Vegas (and surrounding metropolitan area, including the Las Vegas Strip) and the immediate surrounding Mojave. The city and the land will be incorporated as integral parts of both the backstory and the mechanics of the game.

      Features:

      • Multiple Gamelines with full 2nd Edition Rulesets (Requiem, Forsaken, Created, Awakening. Primordial, Sin-Eaters and Lost TBD)
      • Integrated Cosmology which explores the nature of the world, with answers to questions from What is the Dark Mother, to what is God.
      • Supernatural and Mundane Area Resource Tracking (SMART) - Utilize a system to track the available resources for each area on grid.
      • Many Flavors... - Vampires, Mages, Frankensteins and more all make their home in Vegas, leading to unique and interesting combinations and stories
      • ... undiluted Taste - Each Gameline will be given the respect and understanding that its Core Theme needs to stay intact
      • No-Nonsense Staff - Zero tolerance will be afforded to those who harass others, and there will be no hesitation to smack an asshole
      • Subtle Twists - In the city of Sin, things are a little different. Uncover the local quirks of the 10 Arcana, or the Predator/Prey Dichotomy that Uratha feel in certain areas.
      • 100% 2nd Edition - Nothing from previous iterations of these games (Beast excluded, obviously).
      • New-Player Friendly: Staff Created organizations to ween a new player into the various societies of the supernatural

Currently in a design stage, just letting the world know I am still working on a thing. Again.

As someone with a degree of expertise your house rules aren't bad.

I am surprised that no changes were made to Professional Training (unless it is simply disallowed which would explain that).

And for my own curiosity, why the change to Protean 2 claws?
