Unless it stretches suspension of disbelief... you're already coping very well with people shooting energy beams out of their hands, y'all. Do you really draw the line at them also being Asian?

I know it is rhetorical, but it shouldn't surprise anyone that some people are this shallow. Race/gender identity is a big, complex thing, but the answer is definitely - yes. That's over the line for a lot of people. And by a huge margin. Many people want their heroes to look a certain way otherwise they can't (or don't want to) relate to them.

Spiderman, Captain America, Thor. Just a few other examples people have been up in arms about recently. There are a ton more.

It is a big theme in Falcon and Winter Soldier, which I thought was very good, and something that was begging to be addressed. I'm glad it was not ignored.

      Does that include you?

Unfortunately yes. I was super excited about this game but have since opted out. Apologies for bailing.

At least until the game is in a more completed state. Maybe after beta is over it might be better for me to go back and be a part of that community.

I'll admit, ARX intimidates me. I've looked at playing it, and looked at the roster and even picked a few characters that look like they could be fun to play, but after that point I just look at all the lore and other things and nope out.

I did the exact same thing. I didn't even know where to start. New is always more difficult to process. I guess it just matters how much time and energy you want to invest into it.

I'm really surprised, actually that anyone cares about MU*s in any official capacity. That astounds my brain considering how few people are involved with any particular game.

In a world where Kanye West exists, is a black billionaire playboy really that unthinkable?

In a world where the police murdering an unarmed black person on camera is okay because the black person committed a crime once, it's hard to imagine people being okay with a black man who wears a fighter jet like a suit and has orbital weapon platforms (Veronica) answerable only to him.

Ugh. Well, that gets into other sticky issues... but I do think that is why the Falcon and Winter Soldier series was good and necessary for Marvel and fans in general rather than Cap just handing over the shield at the end of Endgame and things just moved on like everything was normal.

So bringing it back to good TV... yeah, I recommend Falcon and Winter Soldier.

This looks quite interesting. Well thought out and intriguing. If I new anything about China or Chinese culture, I'd be all over it.

But I think I'd just the dope always showing how ignorant I was and feeling bad about it while also killing the theme for everyone else.

Good luck though. I hope you get a good player base that enjoys your hard work. Also CoD on Ares is a great thing.

    • RE: Where's your RP at?

@faraday said in Where's your RP at?:

I MU* because I love to interact with other people. Stories evolve in surprising ways. I don't mind when bad things happen to my character - actually in most cases I welcome it because RPing complications is fun. I just don't want to lose my character against my will. I don't understand why that's so hard to understand when various people have laid out very concrete reasons why they don't like it.

Maybe 'understand' is the wrong word. I acknowledge the reasons given, your own included. But I can't reconcile the explanations given. For example, how you can say that you welcome when bad things happen to your character without consent, unless it is death? I can't get why that's an exception to the rule. Character death is just another bad thing that can happen to your character. If someone turned your character into a rock, would that be okay? Kept alive and healthy, but imprisoned? Cut off his arms and legs in a genre where you survived, but they couldn't be regrown, is that okay? Blinded and made mute? If death is the only exception, I don't know why it is not okay but everything else is. If it isn't the only exception, how much of a change to your character is acceptable and why is that the line that can't be crossed.

This isn't meant as a knock against you or anyone else. It is more a statement of my own inability to grasp these types of point of views. That's all.

@The-Tree-of-Woe said in What's the new hotness?:

The thing that's out of balance about the game to me is the pledges. Being able to add stuff to people's sheets that don't cost XP for drawbacks that will almost certainly never come up unless an ST or player forces the issue was, to me, a terrible concept in game design. And then Demon turned around and did Pledges Part Deux.

Something, something, something... works great in tabletop with an ST that knows your characters and is running a game catered to them... something, something, something... not made for a MU*... something, something, something... all splats are not created equal.

    • RE: oWoD - Is there such thing as a good one?

@sunnyj It definitely isn't the theme. I have had fantastic WoD games - new and old - away from MU*s. Tabletop, online, LARPs - all awesome, super fun. It is definitely, without a doubt, 100% the community. The only reason I went back to playing is because nothing else fits my schedule and priorities.

Also, it isn't the whole community. Its a few bad ones and then a larger group that reacts poorly, directly or indirectly, to those few bad ones. And I admit I probably sometimes fall into that latter category. But between them, those two groups affect pretty much every place there is and will be.

But I've enjoyed the CW series along with the two they started on their service, Swamp Thing and Stargirl. I think they jumped to their own tv service too fast though.

CW barely deserves its own channel, much less its own service. But at least they were smart enough to not charge for it, so points there. Still, I can only imagine the quality of the shows on the subscription based on what makes it to the network line up. I guess they're going for the quantity versus quality metric?

I'm addicted to Mortel on Netflix, a weird french show about making deals with demons. It's low budget, but the concept is strong.

It was very weird, but I loved it.

    • RE: Feet Voting

@tnp WIth the amount of feels that have been expressed, I find it hard to believe any amount of trust would be able to be retained. It is very difficult to come to a place like this where you want to be able to express yourself when you have to worry about whether what you say gets you isolated from the people you came to commune with.

      So I get that part.

This has never really been a "safe place" in terms of not having really harsh negative things said to you if people disagree. But it has generally been a place where you've been free to express yourself, even if all that comes from it is that people tell you how dumb you are. I don't know any situation where people will be able to feel that again. But I sure hope that someone smarter than me will be able to find that way in moving forward.

But in terms of voting with feet... would there be anywhere else to go? Or are people stuck with here or nowhere?

    • RE: Why are there so many MUs set in Maine?

I've never understood why people are willing to blindly accept all kinds of supernatural ridiculousity in a setting, but then something like its setting is just untenable. A million people? In one city in Maine!? That's ridiculous!!!

But... it makes sense that supernatural monsters/creatures have been around since forever and only a teeny tiny sub-percentage of the population has ever been aware of them because the one thing people do really well consistently throughout the history of human existence is keep secrets well.. That part makes sense. Why would anyone question that.

      Bob Dole passed away.

I remember when he ran for president. I remember a time when you did not root for a person to win simply because you agreed with his opponent's positions more. Not because that guy was the scum of humanity. I remember when, if Bob Dole had won, I'd have been disappointed, but wouldn't have dropped into a visceral despair because the country was going to be sent screaming into a searing political, social, and moral hell.

Bob Dole will be missed. No both sides of the aisle.

    • RE: Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu

@surasanji said in Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu:

@jennkryst Things are still in construction, obviously, but it seems our team is leaning towards there being a limited number of Abyssal exaltations in our game to keep the splat meaningful.

Again, this is just our idea so far and isn't set in stone. I'm very much a big proponent of antagonistic PCs being given to people who are mature enough to create fun and RP, versus just being the big-bad dude who sucks the fun out of stuff. I've seen that happen too many times to not be a little gunshy of it.

Good luck with that. The only time I've ever seen antagonistic PCs not fail horribly is if they are played so dumb that they never succeed against PCs but so smart they always manage to get away. Like a cheesy cartoon. As soon as an antagonistic PC wins against other PCs you'll get almost obligatory complaints about how things aren't fair, the bad guy is over-powered, the PCs weren't given a real chance to succeed, blah blah Bob Loblaw blah, etc...

Some people (way too many people for my liking) think the fun stops the moment they stop succeeding. That's a high barrier to overcome.

      Good luck.

@greenflashlight said in Good or New Movies Review:

I think I like the Matrix: Resurrections. It feels like an extremely meta movie and I kinda lost the thread of the metaphor in the middle, but if I'm reading it right, it's basically a story about accepting that the struggle never ends and the same fights will always be on loop so the best you can do is fight for what you have to fight for and accept the happiness you can make of it.

Oh, I did not like. I felt like I got what they were going for, but it did not hit the mark for me. It felt very clunky and too heavy into itself, like it was too wrapped up in its own legend to see where it was going astray.

That franchise is one of my favorite ever and I expected amazing things. I did not get anywhere near that. But even from a more neutral perspective without so many expectations, I don't think they did a very good job of telling the story they wanted to tell. Way too convoluted. Way too many distractions.

@Kanye-Qwest This will be only marginally helpful... But I use potato and can get 256 colors. Problem is I can't explain what you need to do, exactly. Something with an xterm or setting a particular attribute. Hopefully someone else can explain the specifics, but this is just me saying it can be done.
