Master Thread for the new Mu2 stuff. Arc now finished. MuReq on the github. Made a master readme.

      https://github.com/ccubed/Mu2

      TL;DR

MuReq - Jobs System made for 2015

Arc - Store your player stats in the database! This makes many things easier, not the least of which is finding that random player with that one stat you need to get rid of or finding out how many people have strength 3 or how many have Resources above 5 or any other analytical question you could pose. Also, since you use the sql() function to pull data, you can format it however you want. Meaning no more adapting to someone else's code. One coder wants the data formatted as row separator | and field separator ~ while another wants - and #? No problem.

It's only getting better @bobotron. I've changed a bit around but here's some more shots of it.

      +jobs output: https://gist.github.com/ccubed/b8a532fce646e84e806e

It's different, yes, but this job system isn't meant to spit a massive amount of useless information out at you. It should be easier to find the jobs you need to work, not force you to slog through 289 jobs that you're not looking for.

      +job # from a staff bit: https://gist.github.com/ccubed/93586f4972105111d18b

They see everything. I changed it around and it now shows [Comment ID] or [Comment ID-Staff] to indicate flags the like.

      +job # from a player: https://gist.github.com/ccubed/5fdb8579a871862af2b8

On the other hand, the player only sees two comments. But what if we wanted only our friend sasha to see comment #2. Well per comment reader blocks work. Yes they do.

+job from the player after I blocked them on that comment: https://gist.github.com/ccubed/426b8380a868c29a1584

And sample output from searching by +jobs/mine: https://gist.github.com/ccubed/a7870dea1d55b5475877

That kool aid was tasty. I see you have no response to numbers. It's not a tempest hijack until there's at least one insult slung. We're done here, she'll go away now.

@tempest Normally, I don't respond to crazy. It's against my code. But what the fuck, i'm bored and I just finished a code project.

@tempest said: 'some bullshit, roll more dice at an off screen system, more bullshit'

Yes, until we changed the system because of Sam. Which happened pretty much a year ago. So show your age.

@tempest said: 'some bullshit, Shav was TSing players on her NPCs, more bullshit'

Yes, at the request of said player, who was doing it to establish conditions by which he could control the NPCs. Said player did this to other PCs too.

@tempest said: 'some bullshit, husband is a power hungry asshole, more bullshit'

Castle: Staked to death. Total beats 380.
Kylie: Entombed for eternity. Total beats 962.
Wulf: Game closed. Nothing happened. Total beats 845.

In comparison, our two oldest players:
      Isrieal: Total Beats 1090
      Charlotte: Total beats 1163

      Powerful? Meh.

@tempest said: 'something something these stats are useful everywhere!'

Not particularly. Allies, Mentor, Resources. These things are only really useful if staff puts systems in for them. Resources may be a way to justify requesting an item and Mentor may justify an XP Spend, but really, how many games ask you to justify either of those now-a-days. The answer is not many. So really, merits like that become useless. Even herd, which in practice should give you an easily accessed source of blood only becomes useful when the ST allows it. So i'm not sure where you've been playing that anything like that has been useful by default.

@tempest said: 'Tobias got killed by job!'

Just in case that wasn't made clear enough. Steele was a great prince, but he was getting burnt out because he didn't have anyone he could delegate to. So he was having to deal with all the things himself. This would burn anyone out given that Kingsmouth generated an overabundance of what people considered prince worthy problems. Rather than just removing him and being like 'Welp, have a vote,' we choose to make an RP around it to give players some kind of closure. This was designed with Steele so that it also allowed Steele's wishes to be respected. Steele wanted to go out like a boss and so he did.

@tempest said: 'work out your problems without PvP mmkay?'

Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool. And now we know that Tempest plays on no current vampire game.

@tempest said: 'Nobody could criticize RFK!'

All evidence to the contrary given the 5 different ways we accepted that criticism!

@tempest said: 'I poked around 2 months ago and stuff!'

You must not have looked hard. 2 months ago the only NPCs left were Raine (who probably wouldn't have ever gone away, people like putting in jobs about her), Lucinde (who existed due to plot) and Mother Mathis (because as of yet there wasn't any other real alternative to Elysium, but a player had been working towards that and Mother Mathis would have shut hers down once a player had one). So 3 NPCs. Yes. The NPCs were inundating that game I tell you.

For those that want it, the first major release of jobs 2.0 is ready. I'm pushing it to our game now. This should be a working version minus any bugs. I'll be fixing those as I go along. Submit issues if you find things or want things changed.

From a personal standpoint, I really liked territory. It annoyed me really that we had these splats that really focused on territory and had entire systems around territory that no one ever bothered to use. Downtime was a system that was adapted to a MU environment from LARPs. It was somewhat effective at limiting actions but I think that a MU runs in a way different than a LARP and needs its own system. We just never made one. That's something that will likely be fixed in the changeling game.

That being said, even our current project (Our being Cthugha, Groth, Becca and I) features a territory lite system. Mostly because territory is an easy source of conflict and something that is easily relatable to anyone in almost any splat, timeline, theme or setting in any game franchise.

@sundown Not that I particularly care, but you wrote 4 pages that discussed how the game failed and succeeded at various tasks. So getting mad at people for wanting to talk about the parts of your review that discuss how it failed seems odd.

@Arkandel The time investment was okay for the most part. However, it did become unsustainable when Becca started working and I had to deal with things beyond my normal in my life. Not to say it wasn't a massive time sink, it was, but it wasn't that it couldn't be done with enough staff.

In general, the biggest thing that stopped us from getting staff was the refusal to allow staff to play PCs outright with all the abilities that regular PCs enjoy. That was also the feature that got us the most kudos from the actual players however. It was also the thing that fostered a staff-PC trust relationship. So it was a double edged sword, one that both benefited and hurt us.

If someone wanted to do all that we did, the code is freely available and could be paired down sure. However, the biggest thing this type of game requires is a staff that sticks with it. You need staff.

Now, I have to be honest. It was obvious that the game was a source of ego-boost for Shava, a certain kind of personality cult which brought her an endless stream of praise and love from the players. It can't hurt to connect to a game where people send you adoring messages. Of course, nobody is that perfect. However, with how much work she was putting into the game, I guess that's a fair quid-pro-quo?

I won't go into the attempts to scale the game and bring in more staff, and how that failed. I just want to outline the constructive elements. However, while praising one good aspect of Shava's behavior, I have to keep perspective. The kindness in her approach to players is a good thing, the personality cult is a bit iffy.

I am so confused by this. So, you're saying she shouldn't be happy that her game succeeded? That anyone that finds joy in the fact that their game succeeded is engaging in the construction of a personality cult? That is a narrow view. One you've probably engaged in.

Speaking of wolf 2e, I for one am amused that they became more socially aspected than vampire. This makes me chuckle on a level that I cannot describe with words. It's totally awesome and they have some of the best conditions (Shadow Paranoia), but it's also so very amusing that the werewolves in 2e are now pack monsters that have integrated into society rather than pack monsters that avoid society. It's doubly amusing when their integration is better than the vampire who has been integrating into society for hundreds of years, sometimes thousands. Actually there's a joke here isn't there? Onyx Path, did you just make a joke?

      I see that

Just remember all these search functions are relative to yourself. A wizard will return all objects in the database, a royal will return only non-wizard set objects and anything else will only return their own objects or those they pass the lock of (IE: can examine).

Edit: though for builders and keeping objects together I highly recommend the shared flag at least on penn. I do not know if mux has that flag.

@Thenomain One of the biggest things on a coding side was that one person came in and made the initial code. This person didn't really know code and so made things in the way that a beginning would.

Then the second coder was a coder who knew code but didn't know softcode who attempting to apply real world coding practices to softcode (which you can't, really, it doesn't work out). Nodens was great though, at least he could code.

Then I came along and was stuck trying to bridge the gap between the original guy who couldn't code, Nodens who could code but didn't really understand the specifics of softcode and myself who can code and knew softcode.

Lesson: Having multiple coders making your core systems is a pain.

    • Quoting Depth Doubled

So, it seems like as of the recent update if you quote someone it adds it in with double the depth instead of one. So for instance, quoting a person will result in > > which is a quote with a depth of two. Quoting someone who had quoted someone else ends up in > > > >, which is a depth of four.

      @coin: https://github.com/ccubed/RFK/blob/master/Beats Code.txt

Also, the game was not closed due to any specific work load. The game was closed due to a disagreement staff side about a specific rule regarding staff PCs. As some of the staff we had recently brought on were unwilling to follow it and Neither Becca nor I could devote the major time needed to keep the game going, it was decided we would close it and work on a new project. The server remains open until we're ready to close it for the ~15 minutes it will take for me to start up the new game based on Mu2.

Huge numbers of changes were made to procedures. Then Shav stepped back, but didn't trust anyone else to run the game. So she would sign on every 4 days and tell everyone they were screwing things up. She half assed providing information to her staffers, which led to constant bailing of staff.

Constant bailing is a pretty blatant lie. There was no half assed information provided. Staff had any information they wanted.
