I might take a look as well. Not sure which DC character appeals to me at the moment but I'll take a look at the roster.

RE: DC Game Wanted
@TNP But doesn't it fragment comic games a lot? I don't mean to be facetious here, it's not a rhetorical question - is this an issue or is it the aforementioned MSB effect making it sound like a bunch of people just can't compromise on the exact version of comic-book gaming they can tolerate before a MU* is essentially unplayable for them?

RE: DC Game Wanted
I don't know anything from anything comic-MUSH-wise since I've barely played but it sounds like agreeing on which exact version of properties to run is a divisive factor in that community? Is that right?
I mean it might just be the MSB effect but some of the posts in similar threads have have been like "if the Flash is Barry Allen I hate it and I won't play there full stop" and whatnot.

RE: RL Anger
@Monogram I think there's a 3-month Spotify premium sale lately for something ridiculous like 50 cents if you're into that.

RE: RL Anger
@Apocalycious Yeah, for me the biggest issue with cloud-backing isn't privacy (although it's definitely an issue) or even accountability (especially for the free solutions - if your free DropBox account suddenly loses everything do you even get any recourse?) but efficiency; regularly uploading enough GB of data takes a while.
But for documents, ebooks, pictures and such it's all usually all good. If you're a professional photographer it might not be for the reasons mentioned above.

RE: Pokemon Go
People want to sue because it's where the money is, and there's no point suing the moron - there's no profit in it. They need to sue someone bigger than that, but who? The phone maker is a hard target, as is the service provider... the app that's been making headlines and would be worried about bad press though? Nice juicy target.

RE: Pokemon Go
@Auspice Level 27 here, I just want to hit 30 so I can spend my dusts (after 30 the Pokemon you capture/evolve/hatch don't scale up in CP any more). But yes, this new generation is an excuse for Niantic to sell incubators, I don't mind too much though.
What I do mind is they've increased the spawn rate but left the pokeball drop rate the same, which means I'm constantly out of balls (there's a joke to be made here). In the summer I used to destroy dozens of them just to make room and now I've often spent ultras to capture a rattata just because I was out of everything else... which sucks.

RE: RL Anger
@Apocalycious The answer to that is: Implement a pull-backup system and you don't need to care.
Also remember folks: Backups you haven't successfully tested with a restore are
probablyworse than not having backups at all. -

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
To be honest it's $80/7's worth of games. So we're not exactly talking AAA semi-recent titles here, we're talking bargain bin.
I mean there might be some good things in there, but...

RE: Shadows Over Reno
The next (social) scene featuring a meeting between Reno's Uratha and Kindred is set for this Friday night. Wendigo is bringing some NPCs along for the ride.
If it's canceled I'll do my best to let you know beforehand though.

Mmm. On the one hand, I don't think the game is officially 'open' yet - I get the feeling that the events are meant to kickstart things, and if staff is too otherwise occupied with RL/OOC, I'd rather they push the events back until they can devote the resources to it instead of starting things then letting them stagnate.
I will never hold staff (not just here but anywhere) on what they haven't promised or specifically said they can't handle. So for instance I can't begrudge Reno's management for being unable to handle +jobs in a timely manner because, well, they already posted they can't. Nor can I hold them accountable if they don't go over Secrets of the Covenants soon and make them available in-game since they never claimed they would. If those things happen then great and if they don't... well, I can have my money back.
But this isn't those cases. If even as a regular player I schedule an +event for 20:00 on Tuesday I'll either be there for it or I'm going to make my damnest sure to post well ahead of time it's not going to happen because it affects people's RL schedules. It's just common courtesy, and in this case it wasn't observed.
On the other, a quick glance of the people who've signed up for the Werewolf one, that has gotten pushed back once or twice already, shows a number of folks who haven't logged in for a week or two, if not longer; so it looks like people are either losing interest or just finding other stuff to do.
What comes first,+events full of people who've left to find other stuff to do or people who find other stuff to do because +events don't take place?

RE: Shadows Over Reno
Yet another staff-scheduled +event was rescheduled an hour before it was supposed to be ran last night. There have been several of those - in fact I don't know that any has been ran.
I'm just a bit more irritated about this one because there was no post or other warning about it, and I went to a matinรฉe show earlier so I could be there for it.

RE: The Apology Thread
@Faceless said in The Apology Thread:
Why do people hold grudges?
For myself, I don't think I am. I mean for starters I don't remember slights after a few weeks - if @surreality called me a poop-head and told me my TS sucked I'll be miffed for a bit then I'll eventually forget it happened, or that it was her who said it in the first place. My head-version of the story would be that at that place someone did something that pissed me off.
But for another if you do something memorably bad it's not like I'll be emotionally predisposed against you for long either, I'll just want to avoid getting screwed over twice; there's a difference. If you staffed a sphere I played in and were horrible, or you became too much to handle during an IC relationship/conflict or... anything above and beyond normal everyday online annoyances I will try to avoid you in the future. That's not because I hate your guts or even that you're necessarily a terrible person (for all I know you might be great with others) but well... life's too short sometimes to give people extra chances.
Now to be honest I usually don't cut people off at the second or even third chance unless they fuck up really badly, but you know what I mean. There's a threshold after which drinks are no longer served at Arkandel-bar.

RE: +wantrp Command Suggestion
@Lisse24 said in +wantrp Command Suggestion:
And yet, bboard doesn't fulfill the basic function of serving as a reminder to a particular player that I'm waiting on them for a scene and what I want that scene to be about. I mean, you can create a LRP/Want RP board, and some people might post to it, and the posts will be ignored and then usage will drop off because boards are a terrible way to organize RP.
I think proactive systems don't work too well. They do, but up to a point, and they depend on a cultural shift which may or not be there.
What we had done in the past was automate the process. For starters we had a command like +where, if people were roleplaying in a room, it would tell you that room and the number of people posing in it, but not their names (that game didn't actually have +where, so you couldn't cross-reference the two lists).
For another I don't favor systems that just flag people as 'searching' because that doesn't lead to anything at all; so I meet Jane, what do we play about? A generic bar scene? Yay.
A more integrated system should allow for a number of official threads (staff-ran stories, PrPs, etc) to be defined and then players can express interest in playing about them. So for example in that list if #3 is "a mysterious series of robberies" you can flag yourself as interested in playing about that - then we can have the +wantrp command alert proactively and/or on demand people with a similar focus to bring you and them together.
Just as an example.

BeipMU
Spawn windows and correct-as-you-type spell checking. That's where it's at.
Just use Duck Client, that's where it's at. You get the spell check as you go, you can spawn windows and more.
Hmm. It looks interesting but is there a way to have its triggers spawn into the main window? At the moment it creates a second, separate window with the new tab in it instead of that new tab appearing next to my MU* tab in the same window.
