    • RE: Star Trek Adventures Thoughts

      Having read through ST:A I had the same initial thoughts as well. I thought it was poorly put together and had no interest in playing.

      I still haven't played, proving that my initial instincts are in fact correct. Don't do things.

      But it's interesting to see feedback from someone who started where I was but enjoy it. So I'm going to go ahead and read through the book again I think just to see if my position on it changes. I would love to see a good ST table top that I could sink my teeth into rather than a custom Cortex+ system my circle has used.

    • RE: ROGUE: It is coming...

      This was the approach taken by a sw game not long ago that met with burning crashing. Everything was about the rebellion. Players wanted to do their own things and the disconnect left people scratching their heads.

      Star Wars kids are Star Wars kids. Never forget that.

      To note, The Expanse did start off as a table top game. Likelihood of getting approval: High.

    • RE: Questions About Evennia

      I'm actually in the process of transitioning all my work from MU base to Evennia base. As I'm going through this process the need for 'comparisons' of things becomes more clear. I would second the idea of a MUSH to Evennia type structure to both help and inform. A sort of 'Doing this in MUSH is like this: Doing it in Evennia is like this:' That I think would help people see the advantages / disadvantages and help bridge the gap. As a noob coder, a lot of times it's terminologies and syntax that are the issues. So yes, Rosetta Stone?

      I don't know if Darkest Dungeon will work, I know they have ipad version though. If it does, that's a great investment.

    • How much Code is too much Code?

      Just a fun conversation I've had for years with people. My own viewpoints on it fluctuate pretty regularly depending more on mood and what I am currently experiencing. But, just interested in feedback from the general community on the above question:

      How much code is too much code for a game?

      There's the far end of the spectrum with games that are completely free form, then there's the Firan's of the world (Or the El Dorado's or whatever other heavy code game you can pick) that have extensive amount of code.

      So for this discussion, I'd like to see what people think on that over arching question with the following sub topics in mind:

      • What genres seem to benefit most/least from code?
      • Does the code add to or detract from the games in your opinion?
      • In the era of the MMO, does more extensive code need to be present to 'compete' or does less code help to 'emphasize' story telling?

      @tempest

      Start your own forum that will be even more exciting and filled with your perfect utopia? I mean, for fuck's sake, it's a forum. There are real issues out there and you're expending your energy on forum politics. Did I fucking time travel back to 1992 AOL?

      Is it however that wild of a conspiracy theory? Have you seen some of the people around here?

      I personally think it's completely viable that some of the bridge folks in these parts would collectively get together and say 'Well, we have no joy in our lives let's go fuck with someone'.

      Now enforcing the approach that the forum mods don't condone that? Sure that should go without saying obviously. But to believe that people around here are incapable of such things would be pretty damn naive. I'm actively trying to take down 7 games myself at the moment just to disprove your lack of conviction.

      Does that shit work? Cause I’m actually Brad Pitts younger brother who was abandoned from the family because I was deemed not beautiful enough. It was ok though. I found a happy life until my wife was savagely murdered by a roving gang of post apocalyptic mutants while I travelled through Nebraska. Apparently Nebraska is in fact the same wasteland as the Road Warrior. My wife then gave birth to our son who was put in to the military four years later and then she got married and had three children. I love my daughter

      Did I summarize this dudes life alright? I know quite a few people on this thread and was on several conversations about all of it. Between all of you who know who I am here. This is why I emphasize don’t trust online people. Assume everyone is a piece of shot and you won’t be disapppinted.

      @thenomain

      I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just people should be up front about what they want.

      I honestly think some kind of 'war' game wouldn't be terrible at all. We've seen things such as TGG work; why not a Final Fantasy Tactics skew on such?

      Perhaps a suggestion regarding the Alts.

      Allow players to have a "spoof" bit so they can multi scene with their one/two chars. I find for myself it isn't that I want more chars but when the opportunity presents to rp and I want to multiscene having that bit to do such with is needed. Offering a "bit" for such to skin over with the app or private char to be involved in more things might appease both sides to a degree.
