      Or get clever/code with it.

      Room designation: Medbay
      Amenities level: Low
      Staff level: High
      Occupancy Limit: 16 people

Make all your descs like that instead of narrative descriptions, and now it's like coding instead of describing.

I... I don't know how you know my brain so well, but I like it.

Oh, have we moved on from bitching about there being too many PNW games? Does that mean I can open another game set in Washington, State without someone concern trolling with a "constructive" conversation about "why are there so many games set in the PNW?".

We ran around outside to get used to the leash, which he HATES, but loves rolling in the grass. Now he is a tired pupper.

I'm gonna have to time out walks in the future cause we were out for 20 minutes, but from what I read he's only supposed to get 10 minutes of exercise right now.

    • RE: Chronicles of Darkness Game: Seeking help

@Bobotron said in Chronicles of Darkness Game: Seeking help:

The obvious question, I guess, first...

Is this going to be a sandbox multisphere game, or is this 'starting metaplot' going to be something you're going to push/continue to develop as staff?

City of Angels is a Chronicles of Darkness MUX founded on the ideals of creating a cooperative chronicle. We are an "us against the darkness" game. We will open with a metaplot that will touch each sphere. We are not a sandbox game, nor a game that is meant to run forever. City of Angels will feature a string of metaplots (aimed to run no more than 5 or 6 months), connected to each other ramping up to a finale. This finale may be a year or several years after the opening of the game.

If metaplot and story driven games interest you, this game is for you! If a game with a story you know will end (someday!) interests you, this game is for you!

What's going to be different about this game to draw people in to help you with it other than ALMOST ALL THE THINGS?

I am not even thinking that hard. It's a game for story and fun times. I don't need to be unique. People will either play or they won't.

ETA: Man, I completely misread your second question-- what makes me different to draw people to help? mmm. I can't really say? It's a game for folks who want to do a cooperative story driven game rather than say a sandbox where people all do their own thing--

Also for some reason I can't see the bottom of this input window so this is gonna be weirdly typed :x

      Current To Do:

      • List player-available elements, define somewhat they can do.
      • Define the noble hierarchy.
      • Get a wiki up and running.
      • Decide on system / mechanics.
      • Learn how to build in Evennia.
      • Beg @Kay to build me a grid.
      • Pour through Arx-code graciously shared by @Tehom.
      • Cry in a corner until code-frustration stops.
      • Send @Ifrit a cupcake for all his server-side help.

    • RE: Darkwater: The Return

I haven't had a lot of time to really clear out the +news files. I have +clues about 75% done (hahaha, probably not), but I have it working enough that people can see their +clues and not lose plot info. After that there will be a few other code-things (+travel), and we're continuing to work on getting the news files fixed, and werewolf scrubbed out.

Meanwhile, while we are "small" or "slow" as people have said. We are chugging along with the re-opening plot.

      Which to try and summarize:
There was the 7-year fugue, and no freehold (or its super broken!), and various PCs have been given coronets! There were four given (based on the seasons), but there's a fifth that was mentioned through prophecy. Prophecy says all five are needed to defeat the antagonist! Whooooa.

Birds are doing things! ...and I found out that someone was doing something not-so-advised with their crown. So the end-boss antagonist showed up at the Sit n' Spin, and boy did everything go wrong.

Eddie gave what was probably one of the best poses I have seen in a long time, based on hard in-character choices. (Stay and fight, or flee with the winter crown so it doesn't get taken by the antagonist?)

Another PC may have fucked up weather patterns by breaking a mcguffin that the antagonist had! Oh no! ...and almost got kidnapped by the antagonist.

    • RE: Code Discussion: Ambiance Emits

@tehom said in Code Discussion: Ambiance Emits:

My feeling on them is that they should only be done when they're to emphasize or reinforce theme, or convey information that's relatively important. I think it's kind of damaging if people receive messages that are wrong in some way - if it's about something that isn't reflected in the room or character's current state, it's kind of jarring and annoying.

But for something that's meaningful, or fairly personalized for a character, I think it can be a nice touch.

Yeah, I love the idea of them, but think they need to be balanced carefully. For example: The occasional emit/message describing feeling listless when lower on willpower, or the occasional emit craving blood if a vampire is low on vitae/blood/whatever. Or being hungry if a game tracks how often someone eats (noplz).

Or connected to a +weather code that has a dynamic weather, and emits various weather stuff. Like 'it starts to rain outside'.

Light things that are either tied to a character's expendable stats, health, or otherwise variable attributes. Or weather related. Or related to specific rooms. (Crowds cheering a fight in the training center for example, would be kind of cool on Arx.)

    • Social Awkwardness?

This thread is for general things that are considered 'normal' or 'something a standard person does' but that you find awkward or uncomfortable for whatever reason.

      I'll start:

Does anyone else find eye-contact uncomfortable? There's that word from the dictionary of obscure sorrows "opia".

      opia
      n. the ambiguous intensity of looking someone in the eye, which can feel simultaneously invasive and vulnerable—their pupils glittering, bottomless and opaque—as if you were peering through a hole in the door of a house, able to tell that there’s someone standing there, but unable to tell if you’re looking in or looking out.

This typically feels pretty spot on for me. I'm not one of those people that looks away out of like shame, or feeling particularly submissive to the other person. It's just damned uncomfortable. I also generally don't even like looking at someone directly when I'm talking to them.

I'm not trying to be rude, it's just-- uncomfortable. People's eyes creep me out.
